Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Fishing's been tough on the Cape also! The smallmouth and large mouth are on beds down here! Reason being tough is the drop in temps and the d**n overcast and every day has been windy. If you don't get your lure right on the bullseye on the bed then it's futile. I catch a bunch of smallmouth and some good largemouth the other day. A couple of 6 and half pounders in the same day! It was tough though. Had to find that little lighter colored bottom by some wood or structure and just keep casting and finally a hookup! Crap luck! Dogbone and Jeanderson head on down within the next couple of days. The largemouth are still moving onto beds! Every d**n lake is different!

I fished another 3 different places today. First place there were largemouth on the beds. Males. Smallmouth beds were all empty. Missed it by a week Id day. Other place the smallies were on beds here and there. Caught 6. Waded around the other place and caught a 3.5lb largemouth chunk. Prespawn fish slammed up against the shoreline! Every lake has been different for sure. The weather has been crap! Windy as hell today. Couldn't get a good look. So, the next couple of days I will revisit at least 3 of these places and hope the wind dies down to get a real good look! FYI Dogbone, aba was on long pond Harwich today with a tournament! Place has been getting pressured big time! Probably why it's been so tough!

Fish are either already spawned out on the two places I fished today. There were a few on beds still. But, they were males. My brother caught a smallie close to 3lbs. It was really long and skinny. Probably would've been a 4.5lb plus if it was in full prespawn mode. The second pond we hit was locked and loaded! We caught a ton of fish on creature/beaverstyle baits Texas rigged! Nothing to big though. Poured like a son of gun andvwindy too

Just got a little fishing in! Dogbone, I was catching them off of beds! The largemouth were on beds at the lake I just fished. And I caught some blind casting. Tough with the rain and wind! It's going to be a long weekend and week of fishing for me. Trying to sight fish is going to be a pain in the butt. I crushed them last year when they were on beds but not to sure how this will play out!!

I live in Maryland. Moved down here 20 years ago for work! I do not do much fishing on the chesapeake. My coworker has a 25' Sportsman center console. He was a mate and guide on the bay. I need to go out with him! He's a pin hooker! Does the white marlin tournament as a mate on 55-65 foot Carolina style custom sport fishing yachts!

Swamp hawgs, what were you catching the schoolies on? I'll be on the Cape this Friday evening! Chomping at the bit now! Just bought a few new chronarch Mgl's and spoiled them up with 12lb flouro. Freshwater only reels. But, I'll bring one of my utility setups for some schoolies. We call it out grand slam/triple crown. We try to catch a smallie, largemouth and striper in the same day! And there hasn't been a year where we haven't pulled it off!

My brother fished Webster on April 11th. He got 3 and his friend caught 4. The fish moved in real shallow around noon he had told me! And we're very spooky. Water temps were around 53 that day. So, sounds like it hasn't changed much. They were also fishing out of a 21' Ranger too. So, they could a better view than you. I'm sure it still needs to warm up a little more. The smallest were the more active fish they caught.

I'm divorced! And I keep buying more fishing gear to get over the loss! Or something like that. Just bought 2 new G Loomis Glx casting rods. I told my live in girlfriend that my Mistress(FISHING) will always come first!

Janderson,45, I would hit Long Pond Harwich if I were you! That's just me. But, if the smallmouth are actively feeding. The largemouth will too. Best time of year to catch a giant smallie in there is now! Mashpee gets hit with a lot of tournaments. And a few clubs have probably started hitting it by now I bet. Good luck where ever you go!

Keep me updated Dogbone! I'll be on the cape Friday 05/05/17 by the afternoon. God willing. They'll probably be locked on beds by then. Again, some lakes and ponds will be a week or so later than whatvyour seeing right now. It's supposed to rain tonight and drop to the low 40's. Then be overcast and cool for the next several days. So, that might keep them in this pattern for a bit.

Yup! That's a cape Cod smallie! There are actually much bigger ones in the pond right next to where you were fishing.

I've been using P-Line since the early 90's! It's phenomenal line! Berkley Big game is good stuff too; when it comes to their heavier line. Use some line conditioner if you feel like memory is an issue. Can of reel magic. I throw flourish almost exclusively now. Sunline Sniper. But, I did buy a revo beast and sunline flipping braid to spoil on it. Seaguar Abrazx is good too. I bought a 1000yd spool of 10lb test when Tackle Warehouse had it for 50% off during their Xmas sale.

Dogbone, Hinkleys water is really dirty compared to other ponds and lakes down there. Doesn't surprise if they are making beds. They'll spawn for a couple of weeks there. The smallies spawn at different times and in different spots there. When you work your way down the left side bank with your back to the pump house. I found beds 50-70yds off shore. As you work your way down you'll come up to the little herring run. I found several smallie beds there last year. Let me know if you find any.

Nice job Dogbone! Keep me updated. I'll be back up there in 2 weeks. I'm hoping they are at least on beds when I get up there. I'm hoping I don't hit it wrong. Don't be afraid throw some suspending jerkbaits too! If the smallies are that active. They'll probably be all over it. Throw a green pumpkin 5" senko too! I've down well swimming ball head grubs and football headed spider grubs(twin tail) too!

You can park to the left of the little dirt/sand homemade ramp if your facing away from the water. I pull up facing into the house that's next door. You can fit a few cars there(Seymour). Obviously, at Hinkleys you can pull up to the pump house or situate your car in a way that leaves it accessible for other cars to load and unload. But, don't get yourself blocked in there. Not much room. FYI on Sheeps pond! If you launch from the ramp; you need to go all the way to the there side of the lake and fish the right shoreline as you make the left around the bend. There is a huge gravel flat where on the point! I don't have a fish finder but on the Sheeps pond map if you go to the far end around the corner there is a big drop off and a few jumps that go from 30-60 ft of water. People catch huge smallies there in the winter!
