  1. Unfortunately, the small fee ruin it for the many. I've fished the ponds and lakes on Cape Cod my whole life. I can remember fishing Mashpee Wakeby, Wequaqhet,Long Pond Harwich late 80's and early 90's. It was great year round. Once the Federationand several other big money tournaments found out; those places got hammered. It's not the same. You still have some good days here and there. But, much less than was the norm. Sorry, but most ponds can only take so much fishing pressure. And as Mike said again, people leave trash and god knows what all over the place. There's a lot of places on the Cape now where new owners have petitioned the town to close it off to non residents. And the police are now really enforcing no town permits with pretty nice fines!
  2. Those d**n toothy creatures took a lot of my tungsten weights and 3/0 extra wide gap gammies this past week!
  3. Let's just say this was a lifetime day. And they were all on beds. Blind casting. Water is very stained too.
  4. Just got done fishing. My brother caught close to an 8.5lber. We weighed it. We caught about 20-25 fish total. There wasn't one fish under 3.5lbs. Averages were close to 4.5lbs. But, it was windy again and the water is very stained. But, the fish were all big and fought like demons. All red tails and mouths.
  5. Hey Dogbone, ive been finding largemouth and smallmouth on beds this week. Just an FYI.
  6. My brother has a friend whose family owns a place on it. So, as Mike said there really is no public access. Sorry, Dogbone.
  7. Just went out. Caught about 6 all between 3lbs-4.5lbs. Lost one that was every bit of 7 plus pounds. Right next to my kayak. Lost 3 other ones between 4lbs-6lbs. On beds. Windy as hell and the water is very stained. Just tossed to areas that looked like a possible bed. Fish fight like oversized smallies insane! Got my arse handed to by those fish.
  8. Well, I left Maryland at 5:30 a.m. this morning and got to cape cod by 1pm. Went straight to the lake and launched my kayak. Caught about 15 and lost about 5 or six. All largemouth. Biggest was close to 4lbs. Was fishing a Texas rigged chigger craw. They were all off of beds too. Mostly males in the 1.5 to 2lb range. Bcaught two others that were about 3lbs. Aggressive too. Not sure if the females already spawned or are just not on there yet. Males are on there. Going to fish 2 different ponds tomorrow with my brother. Seems like the fish are at different stages of the spawn depending on which body of water you fish here!
  9. Making my 8 hour ride up to Massachessets now. Have my yak with me. Let me know how it goes today if you get out. Thanks for all the replies and updates!
  10. Well, my biggest smallie is about 6.8lbs. That was caught at winnisquam in New Hampshire. But, White Island pond in Plymouth has some that big there. Long Pond Harwich and several waters on cape cod do also. Caught several in the 5lb range there. Again, that's a great day of fishing when your catching those types of weights! Congrats
  11. And a 5.5lber too! That's a pretty d**n good day with those weights!
  12. Thanks Dogbone! The waters I fish on the cape are from Yarmouth to Orleans. Lots of big kettle ponds. Mostly trout stocked with herring runs going into a few. The month of May is so difficult there because the fish seem to be doing different things every year. Mostly due to the type of winter it was hit with. The ponds I fish at least have both smallies and largies. So, if one species is off the other is on! thanks again!
  13. Anyone fish Cape Cod this past weekend? I'll be there this weekend. Trying to get some info.! Are they on beds yet? Staging? What lures should I throw?
  14. Going to be on Cape Cod from the May 14th-22nd. I live in Maryland now. I'll be fishing from either my kayak or a 12' aluminum. Just trying to get the current conditions or what they will be when I come up. Prespawn,Spawn or post spawn? Trying to be prepared on what setups to bring home and how I should fish. I wont be fishing Mashpee or Wehquacket. To much water to cover with a yak and aluminum. Any info will be greatly appreciated. You can PM me if you don't want the info to be public. thanks again!
  15. I wouldn't have Jamie give his spots up. Just a little 411 on what the gentleman should use for baits is all. Then again when I was up there 2 years ago; I did have his boat for the day and all his sweet spots on the spot from his lowrance saved. A SD card does wonders. We've been friends and fishing partners going on 24 years! S Hovanec, I have a lot of fishing stories when it comes Jamie and his Ugly old man!! Lol
  16. I can tell you that I was up there two years ago(2014)around the third week of May. You came out of Presque isle marina and made a left to the flats. They were on beds already. But 2 weeks earlier they were all over the jerkbaits. My friend lives in Fairview. He fished some of the FLW tournaments their. He has a 21' ft ranger. Knows the place pretty d**n good. I get probably get you some info before you go. Shoot me a pm around that time. And I'll find out what he knows for you.
  17. Going to stop on my way home and try to catch a few bass. Going to be in the Bowie/Crofton area. Anyone have any suggestions?
  18. Anyone on here ever throw swim baits on Black Hills with success? Huddlestons, triple trouts or etc?
  19. That's what I'm worried about too.
  20. Hi everyone, New to the site but not fishing. Just bought a kayak and plan on fishing Black hills this Sunday morning. Any advice on what I should be throwing(lures, colors, patterns and etc) would be greatly appreciated. I'll be putting in off of rte 121 from the Boyd's side. Any locations to target(drop offs, shallows, points, timber etc.)?
