  1. Dogbone, Seymour is right next to Hinkleys. Big smallmouth in there. Seen a 6lber pulled out of there. I caught several smallies in both places on beds last year! Hit both of those places in the same day if I were you! The access for Seymour is after the little town store. It's a little opening by the bike path. You basically drive up into the beach area. When your facing the pond to head out. Go to the left you'll see where a point of land that sticks out(point). That's entire area is a rock/gravel flat! Get there early. Throw senko, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, jigs and ratl traps. Blk/bl,green pumpkin and watermelon. For the jerkbaits and crankbait a use firetiger/perch colors and silver and blue to match the herring color! It can be dynamite this time of year. Don't be afraid to throw a topwater on that area too. Hinkleys in similar but the water is much more stained than Seymour. FYI, pretty much all the ponds and lake Ramps on the cape are accessible(free) without a permit till Memorial Day!
  2. Don't be afraid to slow roll a spinnerbait. Double Colorado. The senko works year round too. Along with dropshotting.
  3. This fish was 9.8lbs. That's my brother. He caught that around May 13th with me. It was about 3 years ago. Cold front blew in and the fish were getting ready to spawn but pulled off and staged in about 10-15 feet of water. It was a killer day. He got that fish blind casting on the drop off. Dead sticking it while he was retying a different rod. Caught that on 8lb test and medium spinning rod setup. Thought we were going to lose it.
  4. It's a secret! Joking! Honestly, Long pond Yarmouth for the largie. But, Harwich reservoir has some big big fish in it. Someone always pulls close to a 10lber out of there every year. Most of the lakes I fish on the cape have herring runs going into them! Long Pond Harwich/Brewster has probably the state record smallies in it. I've seen a 8plus lost at the side of my friends boat two different times on a RatL trap. Scargo lake has some big largemouth and smallmouth too. Any of the lakes with a herring run and stocked with trout are going to be d**n good for bass. Of course Mashpee-Wakeby and Wequaqet lake hold big fish too. But, both lakes have gotten hammered over the years due to tons of tournaments. Johns and Peter s pond are really good early. Like right now. Great places to fish a jerkbait now. Blue back with white/pearl sides or a perch pattern.
  5. Well, last year when I was home in May; the dates were 13th-20th. The smallies were on beds in 4 different lakes. And off of them in three other lakes. The largemouth were on beds in the one lake where I lost the 9lb plus at the side of my yak. My brother got the 8.8lber two days later in that same pond. The largemouth were also on beds in three of the ponds. So, every lake is a little different by about a 4-6 days I would say when it comes to spawning. At least down on Cape Cod. From my experience.
  6. My brother fished Webster lake yesterday. He caught a nice smallies and 3 other largemouth. Said the water temps were 53 degrees there.
  7. God, I hope not. I need the water temps to stay cool until I come up. I don't want them doing the prespawn lock jaw/ right before they spawn or right after they spawn attitude on me.
  8. Crankbait, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and so on. They should all work well.
  9. I agree wholeheartedly. It's like Christmas everyday during the spring! It will be interesting to see what the fish(bass) are doing when I come up. Last year when I came up this same exact week in May; the largemouth and smallmouth were on beds. Seems like it could be the same or possibly they could be a week or two away from that with the longer winter.
  10. My parents own a house in west Dennis. It's right behind Sundancers across the saltwater marsh(bass river).
  11. Thanks for the info guys. I've always had the best luck when the waters been high. Four weeks from today; I'll be on the Cape.
  12. Swamp Hawgs, How are the water levels in that area/cape cod area too? If anyone else has knowledge. I'll be coming back up from Maryland in May(6th-13th). The drought was brutal last summer and fall. When I came home in October it was probably the lowest I have ever seen it.
  13. I agree with what everyone is telling you. Jerkbaits, jigs, lipless crankbait and slow rolling a spinnerbait. Double Colorado in a perch color. Same for the jerkbaits color along with blk/gold and blue back with either bone or silver sides. You want to have a few different colors for all types of setups. I have an idea of where you are located. Swamp Hog could give you a lot of good info and techniques to use. He fishes in that general area from the posts of his that I have read. So the techniques will be almost identical. These techniques are also the same techniques you would use in early to mid fall there. After first frost. I live in Maryland now but have been fishing down cape cod for over 35 yrs. Also, don't be afraid to throw a spider grub on a ball head or football head. 1/4-3/8oz weight and green pumpkin is a great color to use. Fish it slow or you can swim it slow depending on the water temp. Find some drop offs that go from 8 to 15 ft deep. Work those drop offs/breaks. The fish will start staging around those depths looking for bait.
  14. This time of year Wequaqet can be pretty lights out. I always fished the coves. Throw jigs, spinnerbaits, rattle traps and jerbaits. Find structure. And 10-12 feet of water for the traps. Mashpee Wakeby use to be dynamite too. But, gets pounded now. We use to throw spinnerbaits in and at the mouth of Pickerall cove. We actually caught close to 20 fish one day. While it was snowing! If you go to the Concord; fish Fairhaven bay. That was a thanksgiving day ritual for me and my friends. Get up early(4:00am). Launch no later than 6. Place can get packed! Use the same lures as I mentioned for Wequaqet. Sometimes around this time of year you'll see bait still being chased! Senko time
  15. Jeez, I played football for UMass Lowell when we still had a team. Then they got rid of it several years after I graduated. Unfortunately Massyak85, you need that rain up in the northeast really bad! It just stinks that it's coming during your thanksgiving break!
  16. Webster has some really nice smallmouth in it. Just find the rocky points with some decent depth. Ball head grubs, ballhead creature baits and ballhead tubes worked well. Fish everything slow. Right now the concord river(fair haven bay) in Lincoln Sudbury should be really good. I use to fish it on thanksgiving morning for years. There still could be bait being chased right now. Jig n pig(blk&blue), 3/8 spinnerbait(slow roll it) and a jerkbait. And there is some really big northern pike in there too. They'll hit a jig! Get there early. Our poles would be freezing up at the tips. But, we never got skunked! My friend actually had a largemouth blow through skim ice to hit his jig n pig! It was crazy!
  17. Very nice! Here's an 18lb Atlantic salmon I caught in Quebec this summer. Fly rod only!
  18. Hi Jay, You are in a great area for every type of fishing that New England offers. Especially being a stones throw from Cape cod. If there is a cold enough winter down there were there is safe ice; watch out. Great trout and bass fishing through the ice. Enjoy the 4 seasons while your there. I live in Maryland now. But, Massachusetts will always be home!
  19. Anyone been fishing on Cape Cod lately? I'll be fishing there next Saturday 10/08. Driving up from Maryland for my fall getaway. Any patterns or updates leading up to them will be greatly appreciated. I've always had good luck this time of year there. Jigs, spinnerbaits, bottom baits and jerkbaits. Supposed to be a lot of rain down there from now till next Friday.
  20. Beautiful pic! It woyluld look even better with the explosion of a bass on your whopper plopper in the background!
  21. Connecticut river and Attitash also has good pike.
  22. There are still Tiger Muskie and Pike in Wequaqhet on cape cod. Still a bunch of holdovers there from the 80's-90's. I lost about a 10lber in there several years ago while fishing for bass. 10lb p-line Cx was no match. You usually catch them during the winter time while ice fishing. They tend to stay in all those little coves and points of the coves! Concord river in concord/Sudbury has them too. We usually catch them going into fair haven bay in October through Thanksgiving. Ive seen a 20lber pulled out of there by a friend and he has the picture to prove it. Spinnerbaits, blk&online jig n pig and jerkbaits.
  23. I actually got snapped off by a few using 12lb flouro! But, I'm sure the line was already a frayed a little to begin with.
  24. You fished Santiut on the Cape? You should've looked for beds. Now, the smallies could still be on them on some ponds down there still. But, some good places to fish down there are mystic middle, Johns pond, Peters and Ashubel. If your fishing from kayak or smaller Jon or v hull boat.
  25. I live in Maryland now. Work in Washington D.C. since 1997. Still get back up to New England to fish about 3 times a year. Maine had some really good lakes and ponds. And not just for smallies either. We have a friend who's family has a house on one. I've seen 8+lb pictures of largemouth they've caught there!
