  1. Karu lures makes a football head version. It doesn't come with a skirt, but has a skirt keep like any other football head jig to add your own. http://www.karulures.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=44&Itemid=58
  2. Rothwell marine sells them, its the only place I know of. http://www.rothwellmarine.com/boat.asp?c=4
  3. I've used the patriarchs since they came out and they are sweet! Much smoother than the curado and much smoother and better built than the cheaper abu garcias. I haven't used the SXT model, it might be different since they are more evenly priced. But the patriarch is 1 awesome reel! Would like to upgrade all of mine to patriarchs this year. The XT is just a lighter version than last year. I know they added a carbon fiber handle for sure, but not sure of what else they changed.
  4. On the river here, I almost always pick up a chatterbait first and if it doesn't produce I will try a spinnerbait before resorting to other techniques, but the chatterbait is my go to bait. Maybe its because the water is dirtier than most places. I have had better luck in crystal clear lakes in MN on a spinnerbait over a chatterbait. Actually in Crystal Clear lakes I find that a swimjig works wonders when they won't hit the chatter or the spinner.
  5. 6'6" or 7' medium fast action. I like the 7 citrus stick for this, but they don't carry a 6'6" model yet, so I use a falcon. Not sure the model but its 6'6" medium fast. I generaly fish smaller spinnerbaits, 3/8 or less, but usually around a 1/4 so these rods are perfect.
  6. here's what you need. or you could get one with a promax on it. ;D
  7. awesome video, commercial? maybe, but who cares, still an awesome video.
  8. I think they are awesome. If its the ones I'm thinking of it has the 3X plastic. Mine were 3X and were extremely soft and durable and had a really good shimmy. Most baits that soft will tear very easily.
  9. I love the red eye shad. I don't fish it much on the river, but where I go in MN I fish alot of lakes and its spawn/postspawn and the bass (and northerns) absolutely clobber it, ripped over a weed bed in 5-10ft of water or rocky flats. I reel it just fast enough to tick the top of the grass and when it gets hung up rip it out. But really be paying attention, they like to grab it when you rip it out, but its hard to tell when they bite, because you usually are trying to recover slack line from yanking it out.
  10. I use an off brand called a tailwalker. They will have a really cool feature this year to. It will have a small magnet in the belly to keep the tucked under the belly of the bait when retrieving it to help keep the line from getting hooked into it and they are pretty good size, but don't let that fool you. I'm probably going to get in trouble cause they sponsor me, but here is a promo video I did for them last year.
  11. Its all about balance. Most long, heavy cover rods have long handles, making the actual length of the rod in front of the reel seat similar to most 7' casting rods. There are some out there that are poorly balanced, so try before you buy. Good advice, never thought of it that way. Most of the cover I fish isn't real heavy so I like a little smaller rod, but when it comes to throwing a frog on the mat, the bigger the better!!
  12. I just got on tier 2 prostaff and tier 4 is touring pros and tier 3 is for guys that fish the opens and bigger tournaments. In my tier 2 package I get wholesale cost on all rods, all baits are free. for every 10 rods at retail I get a free rod and 15$ for every one of those rods for every 50 rods sold at wholesale I get a free rod and 2$ per rod sold.
  13. I like a shorter rod for flipping and pitching, but I like a 7'3". Makes a it alittle easier I think. 7'11" or even 8' is a heck of alot rod to control with 1 hand doing a pitch.
  14. I've been using a new rod called a citrus stick. I like the 7'11" heavy with a moderate fast action for frogs and the 7'3" medium heavy moderate fast for flipping. I don't flip really really heavy cover so the medium heavy is fine and the power is slightly higher then they are marked.
  15. I send all of mine to http://www.proreelservice.com/ he is a great guy to work with and does a heck of a job. I sent a bunch of old pflueger trions and even a surpreme that was not taken care of and man what a difference. Supertuning won't help most brand new high end reels, but it will make a world of difference on older or cheaper reels.
  16. nice video, I take a trip to ottertail county every year and the bass fishing is awesome. The lakes are pretty good size and not many people target bass so even the lakes that get alot of fishing pressure the bass fishing can still be outstanding cause most boats will be out there targeting panfish or walleye. Bass fishing in MN is not something that alot of people do.
  17. Fishing on the river is tough and most anglers that fish lakes are really going to struggle. I'm just North of of Ft.madison a few hours and here on the pool the fishing is great. Usually takes a solid 3lb average to win a tournament and this spring is took a 4lb average just to get in the top 5. With 22lbs winning it with a 5fish limit for 1 day of fishing. The problem was the area. Not near enough spots for 100 anglers to fish. They were pressured really heavily.

Bassfishingmachine. I've actually got a firetiger vibrashock from karulures. I have way better luck in stained water on what they call blackcherry(black w/ red strands) then I do the firetiger. Just thought I'd add that.

The vibrashock actually has 2 weights 3/8 ounce and 1/2 ounce. The 3/8 version has more lift, obviously and a more erratic action where the 1/2 ounce has to be "fished" meaning your not going to get the erratic action by just reeling it in. Yu have to jerk it and stop it much like a spinnerbait. I kind of see where your coming from. They probably have more lift, because the blade has more freedom to move back and forth.

Really. I've fished the original chatterbait as well as others that don't have a split ring and think that they have as much vibration if not more than the other knock offs. Personall opinion I guess, but i see no effect in having the blade attached to a split ring.
  21. They look interesting and they do have quiet a bit of action. I'd be interested in hearing your report on these. Let us no how it goes.

they were hot when they first came out and IMO, they still are. First off that chatterbait is junk. Get yourself a good chatterbait. My personal favorite that outproduces most others is the Vibrashock by Karulures. Hook up ratio is far greater and the componets are 10 times better than the cheap stuff on the chatterfrog or any other zman bait. Then fish it just like a spinnerbait. In and around wood, lilypads, over grassbeds, slowroll in deepwater. Once you learn how to really fish a chatterbait it will produce fish in almost any scenario. Its getting the confidence in that bait that is hard. The vibrashock is my personal go to bait on anyday. Granted, I'm fishing a river system that will generally have dirty water, which is where this bait really excells, but I have had several days fishing extremely clear lakes with the vibrashock and still caught decent fish.
  23. I absolutely kill the fish on Karu lures vibrashocks all year long. FIshed just like a spinnerbait or a jig. THe only the thing I can say, is that 1 I fish the river where there is current and fish seem more active throughout the day and 2 the water is muddy to slightly stained. That being said in the muddy water the fish key in more on sound and vibration where the vibrashock excells. In very clear water a swimming jig is probably better, but I still catch fish on a vibrashock. Murky water is clearly better than in clear water though.
  24. I agree that rad lures are complete junk. The hooks are weak, the blades feel like they are made out of cheap aluminum. It seemed also that the blade was almost painted. After it got bent to crap you could see like a silver film over the blade like it was painted silver. Karu on the other hand uses the best quality products. Stainless steel blades that are indistructable, mustad ultra point hooks that takes a winch to bend and the best quality skirts I've seen. The blade ticking the head is unlike any other chatterbait out there and I think it makes a big difference in hook up ratios. "you've tried the rest, now try the best" Get a Karu Vibrashock. Its the only bait that consistantly catches fish for me and bigs one.
  25. The only chatterbait I'd throw is the Karu vibrashock. It has the best hook up ratio and the best quality. IMO
