I thought you were looking at the assasin? White max definitely looks a little better suited to what you're trying to do though. And I'd say gear ratio is your preference, I know personally I like the ability to go fast and slow down as needed but some don't.

Line capacity alone would have me looking elsewhere. 2-3 ounces you could get away with 15lb mono for some treble hook baits but there's really no room to grow with this type of reel. If he decides to spool up some 20lb for an S-waver 200 which is around that 3oz mark and you're getting into spooling your reel on a long cast territory with an assassin. That and generally the reels oriented for larger baits have heftier gears than your standard low profiles. A season later with the occasional backlash with a 3oz lure and I'd be worried about the internals getting more than their intended share of stress.

I actually faced similar conditions pretty recently and did much better than I thought I would. It was pretty much like you said, about 70 and sunny a few days earlier in the week, then friday to saturday it dropped to the mid 40's and was drizzling rain. I was pretty miserable while on the water saturday but the fish were still biting. Ended up getting 5 before calling it quits due to my hands getting numb.

Interesting. Never heard of him but I do like these type of reviews. I think it's great when someone takes the time to tear it apart and really get into the fine details of the reel. It's one thing to fish it and say "it's smooth and casts well" and rate it 9/10. It's another to tear it apart, examine the quality of the components and be able to tell how well the reel will probably hold up over time.

I think I'd probably echo this. I have the hudd 68 and after seeing how fragile they are I wouldn't get anything smaller that would easily get slashed in half by pickerel. Mend-it does wonders but you still need to have all the pieces to fix it.

I plan to go out tomorrow. But this afternoon I stopped by the subury reservoir for about an hour. Saw a fish on a bed, probably a little bit over 2lbs. He wasn't having any of it so I just fan casted the general area looking for the ones that might be feeding. Hooked into a decent one, probably around 3lbs, but I was up on a steep bank and couldn't get down to the water fast enough and it shook off. Hooked and landed another but it was a dink.

I'd probably agree too. I have a lot of favorites from other companies but if I could only fish zoom I wouldn't complain either.

Me too haha. It was kind of weird though. When I was selecting the worms some sizes in certain colors were out of stock which is normal, but I also had it happen where it let me select a certain color and size but then the "add to cart" button became unselectable with that combination. Most of the ones I wanted they had though. Got some grape, motor oil, watermelon, green pumpkin and red shad.

honestly speed shads are my number 3 after the keitech's and the eco pros. They're dirt cheap, durable, and catch fish. They're nice when the pickerel get viscous and you start going through a lot.

Yea it is a little risky but it's still a heeeelllllll of a deal even without the rebate. 100% off is great but 50% I will take any day lol. With that said I've got 8 bags of 7" and 8 bags of 10" worms headed for my house. This thread is dangerous

Oh man, what a deal! Might have to jump on that. I think I'm about to get 16 bags of power worms lol. The 10inch ones have always produced well for me in the summer. How does the rebate work if you order online? I assume print 4 rebates, then print your online receipt 4 times and circle the baits in groupings of 4 for each one of the rebates?

I have tried them and really like them. I think they actually have a wider kick than the keitechs IMO (doesn't mean better but can be useful if they want more action that day). They are definitely more durable and the tail still kicks at very low speeds. If I'm fishing the swimjig faster they are usually my go-to, if I'm trying to be a little more subtle I still go to the keitech's.

Lol as much as I'd love to see that we should probably save OP the heartbreak.

My favorite are the keitech fat impact 3.8 or 4.3's.

x2 The eco pro's are the only other ones I've used that I would compare to the keitech's.

I was actually there with my dad so we were in his boat, and even standing up on the back casting deck, polarized glasses, and Webster's very clear water I couldn't see much up shallow. I was surprised too because low 50's + a nice sunny warm day I would think they would want to start moving up. The only bait I saw either was in that shallow cove with the new green weeds which made sense but not much bass with them. I forgot to mention I did see a HUGE Crappie up shallow but that was the end of any excitement.

Fished Webster on Sunday....skunked. Probably my worst day of fishing there. No one I talked to did well either. Tried to reason it out, water was low 50's and I didn't see any shallow spawning action so I figured they might be right off the flats on some deeper structure. Well if they were I wasn't throwing anything they were interested in because I didn't get much action aside from some slight nibbles that I have no idea what they were. Ended the day in a shallower cove that had the only green vegetation in the lake it seemed, so I thought it would be promising. There was definitely more life there and plenty of bluegill, but the skunking continued. I saw a few dink bass who were not interested and I saw one chunk torpedo out of some of the shallow grass but that was it. Oh...and the day started off about as good as it ended. Guess who realized they forgot their tackle bag at home when they got to the ramp. This guy . Luckily I had some swimbaits in a separate box, and the lures I had tied on from my previous outing so it wasn't a complete loss. Pretty sure I still would have gotten skunked if I brought it so no harm there. Only thing I might have tried differently is a jerkbait if I had one.

What size (weight) swimbaits are you looking to throw? You might be able to downsize a little but usually a rod that's up to the task of casting bigger baits is going to be that length or more. I'm sure there's plenty of shorter guys on here that are still able to use long rods. I think most importantly the rod needs to be up to the task of the technique you are using it for, then adjust to your personal feel from there. (also why does the number after 12 have to be censored? I get why brands get censored but it's an everyday number we all use for many other reasons than referencing the brand, it's pretty silly)

Went to Quinsig this morning. I was worried the cold rain and air might really mess up the fishing. Well the fish didn't care one bit, I got 5 bass between 1-2 #lbs and probably 10 other bites I missed (I'd guess really small males or small pickerel just nipping at it). I on the other hand decided to call it quits before noon because I could no longer properly use my hands. The rain was cold and my hands started to become so slow and weak that I could barely press down the thumb bar on my reel....yea, I know, sounds pathetic I bet and I was even laughing at myself while out there. I was actually worried about hooking into a better fish because of how loose my grip was getting, I didn't want to lose a rod. It's weird because even ice fishing they'll rarely get that bad. Water temps were a pretty constant 51-52. The males seemed to be backed off a little bit but they were definitely ready to move up and hungry. Didn't find any super shallow right up against the bank like I might expect when the spawn really gets going. I didn't see any beds either and not any sign of the larger females. I caught the little males mostly on swim jigs, with 1 coming off a 4" senko wacky rigged and another on a t-rigged missile d-bomb.

x2 I had the same issue you're having at the end of last season and I cleaned the AR over the winter and used the reel for the first time today and it worked flawlessly.

I wouldn't advocate boycotting BPS over this, I still probably give them most of my offline business, I just wouldn't buy this lure or their S-waver knockoff. Honestly most of my beef with this is the name itself more than the design. We've seen countless design rip-offs before but rarely do companies actually try and mimic the name itself.

I'd draw the line where the company making the similar product gets to almost completely skip the R&D phase because they let someone else pave the way for them, and I'd draw another line where they blatantly are riding the success of another brand by using a similar or exact name of the already established product in hopes of getting sales from the confusion alone. Sure, most of us know the difference without a second glance, but think about the guy who's buddy told him "I killed them yesterday using XYZ". And he goes to Bass Pro and looks for the lure, sees this, and tried to recall what his buddy said, "what was that lure called again....whop plop? Whoppity plop? Whopper? Plopper?...huh, this one sounds like the right one". And then grabs it off the shelf. BPS just got a sale off of the success of another brand, and did absolutely nothing to earn it. Even worse...if that guy has a bad experience with it and tells others, R2S could get undue bad publicity as a result of the confusion.
