  2. Fishnkamp, VERY GENEROUS OFFER!! Would love to take you up on it. Let me know what works for you. I work in the Howard County School system and will be off for the summer as of this Wednesday so I will be available any time. AGAIN THANKS FOR THE GENEROUS OFFER!!
  3. Darren what do you mean by tip wrapping and do you find tying knots with braid to be more difficult?
  4. Got a question for everybody. I'm getting back into fishing after years of inactivity. For an inexperienced angler who uses spinning gear 90% of the time what are the pluses and minuses of using braided line? thanks
  5. Thanks everyone! I will keep at it. Going to be throwing worms and creature baits for awhile.
  6. Thanks everybody for the encouragement and advice. Quick question, you get to the place where you are going to fish say just after sun rise, what's the first thing you throw and why? Besides top water. My method was to go top water (frog, pop r )and when that did not work I went to a wacky rigged Senko. I have NO confidence in worms. I want to use them but not sure I would feel the bite. I guess why not though right? Nothing else has worked. So again, let's say you get there after sun up, what's the first thing you throw and why? Thanks again for the help
  7. Im about ready to throw in the towel. 7 outings in a row no fish no bites and on different lakes. I have no idea what I am doing, obviously since I'm not getting any bites. Ive thrown everything but the kitchen sink out there and nothing. I'm so close to calling it quits and packing up my stuff for the year. No fun gettin skunked every time out. Road Warrior I have followed your advice and walked the bank throwing Senkos first, nothing, then I've thrown the Fat Ika, nothing, worms, nothing, chatterbait, nothing, buzzbaits, nothing. Can someone explain to me what you would throw and in what order? From the bank, first cast of the day what are you using first and why? Most water I go to is stained with vegetation, fishing from bank so am limited as far as structure. I do not have the ability to fish early, early, early. Sometimes I can get out just before dark but not often so most of my fishing is done mid to late morning. Temps are going to be near 100 the next few days with no chance of rain. Desperate for a bite!
  8. Most challenging issues for me are getting up early, I don't sleep well so miss many days fishing before the sun comes up. Another challenge is staying positive, I've only been out several times and have not gotten a bite yet! Another challenge is working a worm other than a Senko. I've watched videos, read books, and read info here and am still having hard time figuring out if there has been a strike or not. Though there are many challenges I love getting out and enjoying the scenery. Something about being at a lake and being the only one there that is pretty special. I also love the promise that there just might be a fish on my next cast!
  9. Got a question for you, Thinking I was saving time,I rigged some Senkos with clear elastic bands for wacky rigging, along with weedless hooks and stored them in a plastic baggy. I went to use them the other day and the bands had melted. I am guessing there was a chemical reaction? The Senkos are now a little gooey. My question is, can the Senkos still be used after I clean them up or will there be a smell associated with them that the fish find offensive? Curious, ?
  10. The lake does have bass. I caught a few a couple years ago and a guy not 50 yards from me the other day caught a couple. I do think it gets pressured more than I originally thought. Thanks for the responses.
  11. Ok people, what am I not doing? I have fished this lake 3 days now, threw frogs, wacky rigged senkos, weighted worms, and fat ika's, NOTHING, NOT EVEN A BITE! What am I missing? How would you fish this? Algee, lily pads, and water is clear to slightly stained. I'm fishing from the bank.
  12. Getting skunked 2 days in a row STINKS! Finally got out for the first time this year yesterday with my daughter. We spent 2 and a half hours with nary a nibble. Thankfully she still enjoyed it, i went out again this morning to the same lake and once again NOTHING! This time 3.5 hours. Tried everything from frogs to fat ika's to worms and NOTHING! Had some errands to run this afternoon, got done and went out to a local small lake and once again NOTHING! VERY FRUSTRATING! I will press on and keep my chin up, that way the tears of frustration don't soak my shirt. Oh, and did i mention I lost, 1 frog, 2 worms, and 1 Fat Ika!!!!
  13. For someone just starting out with baitcasters would it be better for them to learn on a reel that has both magnetic brakes and centerfugal brakes or does it matter?
  14. I was thinking more along the lines of say, a Pflueger Supreme as opposed to a Supreme Low Profile, not so much a round reel like an Ambassador.
  15. Hey all, question which may seem obvious but I haven't a clue. Is there a proformance advantage or disadvantage to a "low profile" baitcaster as opposed to a "regular" baitcaster?
  16. Thanks everybody. Went out to BassPro today and picked up Johnny Morris Titanium 6'10 MHF Rod that was on sale for 103.99 down from 129.99. Bass Pro is only 10 min from my house(not sure that is a good thing though?)Can't wait to get out and start using it. Once again thank you for all the help and insights.
  17. Thanks everybody, going to go ahead and get a better Rod than I was originally going to buy. A lot of wisdom gleened from you guys. AND IT WAS FREE? Boy im in trouble if you ever figure out how to charge me for all this good advice?? Seriously though, THANKS, I APPRECIATE YOU GUYS TAKING THE TIME TO SCHOOL ME! Now then, do I go Fenwick HMG, Duckett Ghost, Dobbins Fury, or BPS Titanium?
  18. Would someone please explain to me how it is worth it to me a,fresh off the boat newbie, that spending 100 dollars as opposed to spending 50 dollars on a Rod is going to A) make me a better angler and B ) how it is going to make me catch more fish. Again I'm not talking aboutYOU who is an experienced angler, I'm talking about me, a person as far as fishing is concerned, knows nothing about nothing. And please don't tell me "if you just spend 10 more dollars...." How is that going to help me? I don't mind spending 100 dollars but as of right now if it is really not going to get me to catch more fish why should I? I know that the Fury and the Ghost are good rods but if my skills and sense of touch are not there yet why? It's like a golf swing, if your swing is not groves to the point that it repeats itself time and time again it makes no sense in spending 500 dollars on a driver. Groove the swing first, then go get that bright shiny new toy. Hoping for some insight
  19. Well it turns out I only have 100 dollars to spend so it looks like I will get a decent Rod with it.
  20. HELP! I can't seem to make up my mind. I have about 150 to spend and cannot decide on whether to buy a nice Rod for about 100 bucks or go with a 50 dollar Rod and get a BPS Pro Qualifier also. Now keep in mind that I just purchased a new Daiwa Fuego baitcaster 7:2:1. I have a BPS TOURNEY Rod which feels kinda heavy to me but then again what do I know? Talking with some friends I was advised to go the Pro Qualifier route and get it in a slower retrieve speed. Also keep in mind that I am REALLY new to this and don't know if I would feel a great deal of difference between a 100 dollar Rod as apposed to a 50dollar Rod. HELP!! BAITMONKEY I DISPISE YOU!!
  21. You truly are a blessed man. My wife shares none of my hobbies.
  22. Ok, I know this is going to sound funny, when looking at pictures of Baitcasters and actually holding and using one, does anyone else look at these things and think " THIS THING IS REALLY A WORK OF ART!" And I'm not just talking about these two. Talking about bait asters in general.
  23. I'm convinced. I will give it a go. thanks
