  1. Guys, I'm surprised Glenn hasn't shut this thread down. I'm sure we're all kidding about these miscellaneous revenge techniques. Maybe he thinks so, too. While we're just kidding about these I have two more words: Wrist rocket (Oh, did I really say that!) JK You did the right thing. I think if it happened again, I'd have to say something to them very politely like, "Have you considered what your doing. . . , etc." If they got testy about that, just walk away. It's not worth it. I fish a semi-private place (supposed to be private, but there's alot of keys out there, if you know what I mean) about that same size. There's a little gravel launch there. While my wife and I were fishing last spring, these guys come pulling in with a full size bass boat. They back their trailer in and leave it parked in the water. I felt like saying something about it, but I let it go. I just drove my truck around and loaded up on the other side of the lake. We caught way more fish than they did anyway.
  2. IMO this would have to do with the pigment in their skin. It seems that it would work just like ours. The more time we spend in the sun, we get darker and vice-versa. Why would this be any different in bass.
  3. Man the thought of wearing a sweatshirt now here in Texas. . . not a chance. Today's the first day of fall and we're supposed to reach a record high of 101. - Good looking shirt, though. It would really be nice as a hoody though.
  4. A few years ago, I had a buddy who used some kind of stick that you used as a "soldering rod" and a Burnzamatic torch to repair the rivets. I think he bought the stuff at a marine equipment store. I think it worked pretty well.
  5. 5, with my moments at both ends. I do have to say that I can usually get at least one to bite every time.
  6. I'd buy a couple of packages of zoom 7" worms in watermelonseed, a package of worm hooks, and some 1/4 oz. bullet weights. If your not into plastics, I'd buy a Chrome/blue Rat-l-trap and a shad colored torpedo. I could catch something on most days with one of those two.
  7. I agree that the muskie fishing is tough (my wife baled me out by catching mine for me one day while I was at work, LOL). I don't like the fact that you don't have a trolling motor, but it's pretty fun. I quit playing at the end of winter, when the real fishing picked up. It does seem like there should be something else better out there. I liked Trophy bass, but have never seen it for PS2, only PC's. fisher
  8. Mike Iconelli is by far no "idiot". You bet he knows what he's doing. He's creating an image that is so different from other anglers to get attention (good or bad, here we are posting messages about him). I'll give him the knod for being one of the best anglers on the tournament. When he first came on the scene, I tolerated his antics and found them somewhat entertaining. But, I, too, have gotten tired of him screaming like a lunatic with each 14 incher he catches. My disapproval is now final after hearing ESPN bleep out many expletives on the Elite 50 Lake Lewisville tourny program after he lost a fish. One of you mentioned that the kids were flocking to him at a tournament. I really wouldn't want my kids idolizing this kind of behavior. Unfortunately, controversy creates lots of media attention in this country. As long as he catches fish, he'll continue to rake in the $$$ and there will be plenty of following for someone like him. He's kind of the like the "Happy Gilmore" of the BASS circuit. Although, I like Happy more than Ike. LOL God bless, Fisher
  9. I've only seen the Cabela's one. It's probably the best deal you can find. What are they? (about 60 bucks)
  10. I'm glad this topic was brought up. I've been eye-balling a Tahoe Q-4 F. I like the no hassle and gas mileage of a stern drive. I don't tournament fish, nor am I the kind of person who would get really PO'd if the wind blew me off a spot. ( I don't like fishing in really windy conditions anyway). My wife and daughter like to fish, but not near as much as I do. I was wondering if anyone has ridden or fishes out of one of these. Back when I was a teen and into college we fished out of a 17' Baja runabout with a 180 HP in/out. Putting aside rod storage, it was a real good fishing boat.
  11. J.T. I agree with you that you should be sponsored by a company who's stuff you believe in, but don't you think that some pros (or beginning pros) just try to get sponsored by anyone who'll offer instead of pursuing sponsorship by products that they believe in?
  12. This was posted as a topic a while back, but gas was still under $2 a gallon then. I've not taken my big bass boat out this year (it's an older carbeurated 150 Mercury and burns about a half a tank of gas just running short distances). I'm doing most of my fishing from my jonboat on smaller bodies of water. I've talked to a few buddies of mine who are running their big boats and they say they don't run at full speed or run all over the lake anymore due to the price of gas. I was interested in the following: #1- What's the price of gas where you live? #2- Is it (the price) changing your boating habits? #3- Do you think the price of gas has/will affected the sales of boats? or the buying habits of customers (i.e. buying lower HP, 4 strokes, etc.)? Just curious how this issue is affecting the rest of you. P.S. Gas prices have seemed to have dropped about 8 cents or so in the last week to ten days. I wonder if this is due to the Exxon/Mobile "boycott" e-mail that many of us received. (If you didn't receive it, I'll forward it to you, it sounds like it might work) Gas here in North Texas is now around $2.09 a gallon down from around 2.17-2.19 a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for any replies, Fisher
  13. Several years back, I used some plastic/rubber coated colored weights. They were a little larger because the coating was poured on top of a lead weight. I used them for awhile, but didn't notice a dramatic increase in bites. The larger size made them catch more moss and stuff. Also they would melt if left in the tackle bag in the sun. More and more of them fell apart and I soon quit using them. If you're not pegging them, I think a regular lead or steel sinker will perform just as well. But, then again, there are several variables involved (water clarity, cloud cover, bait size, etc.)
  14. Thanks, Raul. That's some good stuff. BTW: When did Florida create it's own nation? (JK) I know there are more of you from outside the U.S. borders. All replies would be appreciated. Thanks, Fisher
  15. I do find it fascinating that there are more and more international bass anglers showing up on this board. I guess we (U.S. and Canadian residents) kind of assume that bass angling is only popular in our countries. I would be interested in knowing how many of you anglers are from other countries. Raul has already given me some insight into Mexico, but I'd like to know what bass fishing is like in other countries (i.e. license cost/requirements, fees paid to fish, equipment used, etc.; how big do the bass get, what the lakes are like, etc.) I just thought this would be interesting to find out and might give us something to talk about. I appreciate any replies. God bless, Fisher
  16. I live about 40 minutes from the one in Grapevine, Tx. There's also an academy within that distance, too. I do quite a bit of my business at the local Wal-mart, too. (2 minutes away)
  17. Argyll, Where'd you get that type of set-up? I've seen the wireless remote motors before, but the remote pad is about the same size as a foot control so that it can be placed on the front deck and used with your foot, but one that is small enough to clip to a rod? I'd be interesting in seeing this. Back to the original post. I recently bought a 12' jon boat. I only had a Minn Kota 35 (17 lb max thrust). I had previously ran my two man boat with it and had reversed the handle to run it off the front. I was using it off of the stern of my jonboat (actually running the boat backwards, but the motor forwards). It worked OK, but I couldn't get anywhere really quick and wind was a problem. I have borrowed a buddy's 45 lb. and liked the fact that I could turn the motor around and get somewhere reasonably fast. He has since loaned me his old motor (long-term) that is 28 lb. thrust, but if I bought a new one, I'd go ahead and spend another $40 and get at least a 40 lb. for that extra speed when you want to get somewhere faster (unless you have a gas motor).
  18. I fished out of one for years. Mine was had a low draft and was only 7' 6" long. I'd recommend at least 9 ft. for stability. It was good for two people and limited gear. If I thought I was going to be in wind or rougher water or carry alot of gear(and possibly a third person) I'd look for a jonboat (at least 12 ft.) The wind used to play havok on my little two man.
  19. Scroll to the top, drop the tackle box menu, and there it is.
  20. Man, $3.99 for the lure retreiver on the website! I paid BPS 2 more dollars for mine! It's still worth it. AND I have used it from the bank before with some success. It just doesn't work with t-rigged plastics.
  21. I agree with Will. I've used the hound dog retriever for years. It cost me about $6 and has saved me five times that in lures. There are even newer ones that have chains attach to them to hang on your treble hooks and allow you to yank it up even if the retriever doesn't knock it loose. Be sure you put strong enough line on it though. I use nylon cord (I think about #200). I once saw an idea in Bassin' magazine about using a spark plug as a lure retriever. Fisher
  22. I've done the bucket thing before with old dog food, cat food, and some deer corn mixed together. It worked pretty good. The maggot thing is gross, but I bet it works real good. I'd just be sure to fish upwind from it.
  23. Never mind fivebasslimit, Gee, I feel stupid. I didn't look at the username. I thought Raul was getting a new boat. Congrats to you as well. That thing looks awesome. Raul will just have to keep fishing out of the jonboat. I was wondering. Raul will get the "sick animal" remark if he reads it. LOL. Inside joke. Maybe God will bless me with the ability to read the username now, Fisher
  24. Wow, you got a new boat. How are you going to get that big thing in and out of those lakes in Mexico? Obviously there's alot of sick animals down there. LOL. You are blessed to be able to afford it. Seriously, that's really cool. I hope you enjoy it. God bless, Fisher
  25. I'm going to look for wood/stumps/trees, weed edges, and mainlake points, in that order. If the lake is full of sticks, find those that are near other types of cover or nearest the points.
