  1. I'd say your speedo is just a bit off There's always the possibility that your tach is slightly off as well. A 150 with a 21" Raker should turn more than 5100rpm. You didn't say whether or not you have a jackplate installed. If your readings are correct (rpm), you may need to raise your engine height. BTW, Rakers only come in even numbered pitches so I doubt that your's is a 21 (if it's a Raker). The OMC 4-blade props come in odd number pitches. Just remember to trim out your engine so that the "roostertail" doesn't go beyond the height of the engine cowling. Anything more than that and you're wasting power.
  2. Watermelon/red flake, texas-rigged. Fished on a MH spinning rod. When I come to a LOW hanging tree limb or blowdown, or bush that I can't get anything else close to, out comes that rig. I can skip that thing into places I wouldn't even consider trying anything else.
  3. Check out the BPS catalog for spincast reels. AbuGarcia still makes them as does Daiwa. One of the best bass fishermen I ever saw used nothing but Johnson Century reels with 8lb line. I swear the guy could catch bass in his bathtub ;D

  5. IMO, these are by far Clancy's best works: Red Storm Rising Rainbow Six Also very good is: Executive Orders Bear and the Dragon I suggest you take them in order and just read them all
  6. I have four AS rods....all pre sellout models. Three spinning and one casting model. They've been super rods and put a lot of fish in the boat.
  7. Since I use a straight-shank hook for much of my worm fishing I leave the point buried. BUT......I always push the point thru the worm, then pull it back inside. Less resistance to overcome on the strike don'tchaknow.... 8-)
  8. +1 for the Team Daiwa L&T If you're looking for a great rod that won't break the bank, that's the one. It's rated for 1/4-1 1/2 oz lures. It's not a "broom handle" action either. There's a bit of tip action to it making it easy to either flip or pitch.

  11. I regularly use a tailspin Bang-O-Lure for topwater fishing. It has three sets of trebles that I replaced with Excalibur rotating trebles. I can't even pick the thing up myself without getting stuck, yet I've had bass smash into it, pull the line tight, set the hook, only to get them to the boat and see the fish just open it's mouth and the lure float to the surface If you really want an education, try and find a copy of the VHS tape "BIGMOUTH" that was filmed by Glenn Lau. There are a couple of shots of a crankbait underwater that is totally engulfed by a largemouth (I mean sucked CLEAR IN), and it's mouth actually closes on the lure. It's mouth then opens and the lure is spit out......and the angler never knew the fish was there!!!! I can't remember the time limit on those shots, but it was measured in less than a second.
  12. AllStar used to make the Zell Rowland Top Water Special. I have one that I use for practically all of my TW fishing. 6'6" and the action is fine for almost everything. The only exception is a buzzbait or a spook. It also is an excellent small crankbait rod. They no longer have this model rod, but I believe they make it under a different model number.
  13. might I suggest you contact the factory where the boat was made and ask their opinion about mounting your Comfortroll? Could save you a lot of trouble down the road
  14. There's nothing wrong with financing a boat, but 15 years is ridiculous to even consider IMO :-? I wouldn't want to finance the whole 35K, but with a decent down payment you could take the loan for 3-4 years. On a new rig, if you decide to get rid of it before you've had it 5 years, you're most likely going to take a bath. If you spill a glass of water on it in the showroom the value probably drops by 5K...
  15. I've had some of my best days on the water on rainy days. Usually spinnerbaits or topwaters. Hint: If I were you, I'd invest in a decent rainsuit if you're gonna fish in stuff like that
  16. If you purchased the reel new, I'm assuming you got it from Bass Pro Shop. Return it and follow Burley's advice above.

Most of my worm/soft plastic fishing is done with Owner straight shank hooks. Exceptions are soft jerkbaits, senkos, etc.
  18. KVD is indeed "THE MAN". As far as I'm concerned, any advice he gives on fishing should be etched in stone and brought down from the mountain..

Ike is one of the reasons that I thank Heaven I have TIVO. Every time I see his face come on screen I hit the "skip" button. That said, I don't dispute the fact that the guy can fish. He may be the greatest thing with kids since Chuckie Cheese. I've even watched fishing shows where he was featured in a "teaching" mode and found it to be very informative. What I CAN'T stand is the act he puts on in a tx. However, I'm sure he laughs all the way to the bank..........

I NEVER fish a SB without one. I've had far too many fish lost that would have been hooked solid with the trailer hook to ever go back to not using one. I toss them in trees, run them through brushpiles/stakebeds, and even pitch them into openings in shoreline brush. Sure, once in awhile I'll get snagged, but not enough to quit using them.
  21. I bought a couple of packs of these this year. They looked pretty good, but I can't figure out what rigging to use. Jighead? Which one and how would you rig it? TR it? Maybe, but which hook would you use?
  22. Sharp boat. You got the finest rough water ride there is with a Champion. It was my first bass boat.
  23. I had a great day on Lake Barkley last Friday using a TR'd Zoom trick worm. Only thing they'd hit. As for Plow Jockeys, I've seen many fish brought to the boat using one of those.
  24. I have a 3/8oz chrome/black Devil's Horse that I wouldn't get rid of for anything. When there's a topwater bite but the wind is up, there's nothing like it.
