bad year for rods so far
I'm not really sure how it happened, but I inherited my dad's fishing tackle when he passed. After a examination of his poles, I understood why he wasn't much into fishing the last few years. 3 nice rods, all about 3"-6" shorter than they should have been! I remember him snapping a Fenwick on a snag on his second cast and I recall our fishing vacation when he put on in the drink.

"Pressured" Ponds/Lakes
Very true, and I know how to get bass only. Take an ultralight setup with 4 pound test. You'll catch nothing but bass, but if you take a medium with 10 pound test its all bluegills I do enjoy a nice bluegill though, they are full of tick and vinegar when they get big!

2-piece Rods?
My rods are "budget models" or cheap. Two of them are two piece, the only issue I've ever had is after fighting a few decent bass the halves will twist out of alignment. Nothing major, just enough to be able to see it, and being a bit ocd it will drive me nuts!

Working on Becoming a Better Angler
Man there's a ton of good info in this thread. I've been fishing for 30 years or better, started pounding the banks with dad drowning nightcrawlers, we got into it more, bought better equipment, got a small boat and had a blast. Many many good memories sitting in that little boat bs'ing with dad, but one thing I've learned that carries over is to trust your instincts. I'm a beginner when it comes to fishing with lures, but I can usually find a decent spot to try out, you just have to trust your gut.

Shoulder pain/burning
I'm sorry, but I'm having a heck of a time feeling bad for you, but I am really jealous! I'd love to be able to fish enough to injure myself! in all seriousness though, get it checked out before it requires surgery... Or amputation!

How do you fish the post spawn in a fairly shallow water?
Have you tried a finesse rig? The Ned Rig worked good for me today when nothing else was productive.

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
My first Ned Rig lmb. Caught 3 or 4, all dinks. Had a nice one hit a hula popper about 11 o'clock, but I couldn't connect.

so that's what I was doing wrong... Epic face palm on my part!

What to do with old tackle
I took my niece fishing the other day, she changed her hook and threw the old one in the pond, after I yelled at her for it she said they that away right? What's sad is her father was the one that told her that crap. I wrap my old line on a stick or something like that to dispose of it, and put my old hooks into a bottle of pop can.

Show me your tackle bags/boxes!
Seems like they'd be a bear to carry around the lake of course, they are on wheels so that helps...

Budget Bass and Panfish rod & reel
Check out the Pfluger president combos. I have a closed face spinner that I've been using for 3 or 4 years, and it's been solid. Came with a decent rod, 6'. It was about $50 I think, they also have spinners but I have no experience with them.

Show me your tackle bags/boxes!
Perfect I was just getting ready to start a thread about this, I need something with a shoulder strap, one of my fishing places is about a mile walk.

My stuff for the Ned rig will be here tomorrow. I plan on hitting the strip pits about 6 Saturday morning for a little too water action, then switching to the bed rig after it starts heating up. I hope you guys aren't building up me expectations

Zman TRD's melting no matter what!
On an unrelated note, you might be a redneck if you do more fishing in your pool than swimming

That's not where I was aiming!
Fishing with my wife is a double edged sword, she will almost always out fish me, and she doesn't take her own fish off, or bait her own hook, but it's fun hanging out, just the two of us. Jim, your blessed to have such a great wife, I hope you guys have many more years of fishing together!

Have You Ever Tried Undoing a Birds Nest On a Baitcast Reel & A Bass Or Any Fish Is On The Other End?
Not with a baitcaster, I gave up on those several years ago... I'm just not coordinated enough to use them, but I've hooked a few fish while working out a line problem. Normally it happens when using my ultra light going after panfish, 4 pound mono hurts when your trying to pull in a feisty bluegill!

the real limits of line
I use 10lb test stren mono and I find if I lose one it's usually my knot tying abilities to blame.

My daughter and I took a Friday off a couple weeks ago to enjoy some beautiful weather and had a great time in the woods.

Beat the heat!
After a day of wet feet the skin begins to hurt, basically jungle rot or trench foot, Google pictures of it it takes a lot more than a day but I've had my share of wet feet for a long day and it gets painful to the point that all you want to do is get a shower and put powder on your feet and dry socks.

"Pressured" Ponds/Lakes
Put a nightcrawler on, you'd be amazed how much a bass like a natural diet. That's what works for me on pressured waters, and I'll usually catch a lot more bass than the guys that are bombarding them with the same lures they've seen time and time again. I use two hooks, 3"-4" apart, a whole 'crawler, and no weight. Let it sink and sit on the bottom for about a minute, pick it up slow, and let it fall. Works like a charm.

Hooking Yourself
I got to cut a number 6 out of my nephews head when he was about 7, I must have told him a 100 times to stop walking with the hook swinging... I haven't seen him do it since, and he's 16 now.

Gotta Love Em
Is this the same kid that started looking through my tackle box uninvited?
