  1. Well I do alot of over thinking, thanks for clearing that up. So the two types of jigs are pretty much the same thing with just a slight difference with the way they fish/
  2. I stripped and respooled about 20 yards and it casts fine now unless I mess up. Still getting used to braid but it's alot smoother than mono
  3. Brush head jig's would still work for bottom presentations in grass and weeds. With the sale the Enraged jigs, wire tied, are still cheaper than the Arkys. The Arkys are a better all all round jig and I don't think $2 extra will kill me
  4. what about just stripping line and then reeling it back on. Meaning going outside on a calm day, having someone grab one end and then backing up like 20 yards and realing it back up. What you mentioned will work but a gentle cast wont loosen up the amount of braid youll need for harder, farther casts
  5. I have magnetic brakes and usually have them on 4/10 unless theres wind. Backlashing isnt the issue here, I had no over spin at the end of the cast, just the braid digging in because it wasn't coming off the spool freely
  6. I use mono on the same kind of reels with no problems If #30 braid is too thin is there anything I can do besides get thicker line? This is new braid and I don't want it to go to waste, so are there any other solutions. I was told that I should use #30 braid and nothing was mentioned about it being too thin
  7. I got a new baitcaster yesterday and decided to spool on some #30 braid as I had never used braid before and wanted to try it. I watched Glenn's video on spooling on braid and he said to spool it on very tightly. I spooled on 4-5 layers of mono backing and then spooled on the braid tightly. Went out to cast around and on a longer cast i hear a pop and see my lure flying into the water. The braid had dug into itself and stopped short, no backlash. I don't think the braid slipped on the spool as I had backing and the reel was properly adjusted. Does anyone know what this and how to fix it? could really use some help
  8. I don't think the slack line thing should be too hard. I've fished T-rigs/ plastics a lot and I mean ALOT, like 75% of pond fishing has been on lures along those lines. Bite detection shouldn't be an issue, more of losing lures One more thing, what kind of jig are Siebert's Enraged series jigs? Would an Arky jig be better all around? Enraged are on sale right now
  9. Then theres Wally World mono, 700 yards for $3. Only thing its good for is backing, horrible line. I don't know why I bought it but I don't reccomend it at all. Go with what people have mentioned above. I use Berkley Trilene XL #12, Smooth casting and a good line overall.
  10. Jig bites are harder to detect? Are they more subtle?
  11. Well I was over exaggerating, im just cheap Pretty much for now What do you mean?
  12. Then theres shipping costs.... Kinda hard to pay anything when below legal working age, guess its time for more odd jobs
  13. Ok thanks. Are wire tied collars worth the extra 30 cents?
  14. Thanks for all the input guys. I'll start off with 3/8oz Arky heads in black and blue, green pumkin, and black,brown/amber. i'll see how it goes from there
  15. So just get plain skirts and customize with trailers? Would the colors I mentioned earlier still work?
  16. Do 24/7, black and blue, bluegill, and craw color/brownish would have me covered on colors pretty much anywhere?
  17. What type of jig head is all around? Should I get swim jigs, finnesse jigs, or football jigs?
  18. I think a black and blue for dirtier ponds, bluegill, and a brownish color would pretty much cover it
  19. It's pretty much the main forage in ponds. And how is that a 24/7 color? It's pretty much black/blue/purple, I don't think that would work in clearer water. More natural all around color?
  20. Would colors cover pretty much most fishing situations?
  21. There are many types of jigs and about 50 different skirt colors, most of which are pretty similar. It's gonna take some thinking and narrowing down, I'm on a limited budget and I don't want to go out and spend $50 trying to figure out what jig works best for me
  22. They have like literally 40 skirt colors, what would be the most all around color? I know it depends but at least something
  23. Mostly fairly shallow residential ponds for now with limited structure, some rocks, and soft bottom with a good amount of vegetation
  24. So I've been wanting to finally pick up a jig and don't know where to start I basically don't know where to start, what kind of jigs do I get?
  25. When going gets tough, go finnesse
