  1. If fish were that smart you would never catch them. They are predators that have to eat to survive- You must find them and hope they are in the mood for a meal or tick them off.
  2. 5/16 eakins jig with half a smallie beaver as a trailer
  3. x2 all I throw for vibes these days-
  4. I really like the looks of the "stream craw" color in the new deep diver version- there are a lot of crawdads up here and I fish for smallmouth with a largmouth here and there. I mainly fish reservoirs
  5. anyone use these or have any luck with them??? I almost bought a couple today but managed to rip the monkey off my back and said bad monkey not yet gotta ask the guys on bass resource first!!! Anyway they look awesome but never hear anyone brag about them- the new deep model had the monkey howling-
  6. small jigs like bitsy bugs work in Walcott- go to the uppper end where there is a rocky wall about 5-10ft of water be patient- craw patterns, small tubes worked too like 2.5" stubbies, it is really slow this time of year but find that rock wall area and use these baits there are huge football shaped smallies in there, not uncommon for 3-5lbers!!! For some reason this time of year they don't want anything medium to large sized. downsize did I mention go small???
  7. dry ice? seems a bit extreme to me
  8. depends on the size of the bait- I like to drop shot 4" senkos at times and I use a 2/0 Gammy circle hook for that fat'er plastic- smaller finesse worms I use smaller hooks like what the others have said.
  9. letting the current take you/boat and a tube dragged across the bottom has caught a lot of fish for me. Also cast up wind with a jerkbait rip it back on the pause hold on man that has been productive for me as well- I like the wind as long as it aint 20+
  10. right on RW- thats what I thought- it is nice hearing it from someone else-
  11. I use the brakes all the time, lighter the lure(and or more wind drag like spinnerbait)more brakes vice versa- I mostly use my thumb and not so much the tension knob. Being aggressive with the tension knob will greatly reduce casting distance- I out cast pretty much everyone I fish with and less time with rat nests too.
  12. like an expired jug of milk- I have a couple tubes of megastrike from 2yrs ago... the product appears the same as new and smells the same. I am not a big guy on scent- I do believe you need to mask your bait where you touched it so I use it for that probably why it has lasted me so long.
  13. I fish a lot of open water with a jig- so I trim the guard up quite a bit, probably 1/8-1/4" before the hook point and I thin out the strands- in open water the weed guard will help some with preventing snags in the rocks- some guys cut it off completely I don't- If I trim the skirt at all it is not extreme- maybe an 1/8" on the sides to narrow the profile.
  14. well said-
  15. Finally some other guys from southern Idaho- good luck in the 208 this year boys- its gunna be a great year- ZachVII(he called me jetsprint2- my old name) and I are fishing a tourny on strike this weekend 4/12/08- oh yeah I live in Boise
  16. so tell me- are swimbaits only for "trophy hunting" or can they be a viable tactic for geting a limit of fish- I tourny fish and wonder if I should add this to a tourny day or only fish for fun when only 2 bites a day is no problem. I have some basstrix paddle type "knock-offs" 5.5". I know how or have been taught how to rig and have the gear to throw them. I am looking for some advice like when to fish them- season, water temp, sunny/overcast, ect. thanx in advance. oh and the search sucks so repeat yourselves-
  17. well said, everey region is different and not to mention the season. A limit of dink smallmouth from a summer tourny in Idaho aint gunna come close to a limit of Largemouth in So Cal. its all relative-
  18. Hmm... I guess I don't understand. Why would anyone move just because someone else is in a tournament? I do it all the time- the guy launched before safe light and knew what was up-
  19. don't worry about what you wear, be comfortable. Let the results speak for themselves- if you are worthy sponsers will come start local not huge corporate like ZOOM- til then keep fishing and improving-
  20. I steer clear and do not fish on top of people- you must have patience with the non-tourny fisherman, last year I had a guy non tourny fisherman at my favorite spot fishing out my favorite place right in front of me and he joked, you can have my fish if you want- rather than being kind he stayed there the whole time hooking'em up he was was pretty abnoxious bout it, he was a tourny fisherman not from my club- I took the high road filled my limit elswhere- so hey, you win some you lose some, I'd have never done that- Karma is huge with fishing- that SOB has it coming lol.
  21. I was that way and will always be to a point its great to get a limit- after 4yrs of tourny fishing now- I would rather catch 1 or 2 good fish than a limit of dinks (if the limit of dinks dosent place)- I have been in many of tourny's where I get mid pack with a limit- I'd rather swing for the fence now days. I think it is more impressive to get mid pack with "A" good fish then a limit of dinks- you can carry over what you learned catching that good fish- don't get me wrong there are those times when a fish of any size can be a challenge-
  22. It's kinda like that around here but generally it takes at least 10lbs for 5 fish to guantee a top 3, 10 to 20 boat tourny. I have seen a huge improvent in our club as whole last couple years. 2lb fish seem fairly plentiful but over 3's are a challenge.
