  1. Sufix Siege is the best all around mono I have ever used. I use it on spinning gear too. still casts great. Maybe not as limp as some other lines, but the increased strength and abrasion resistance is worth the trade off IMO.
  2. I have the 852s in the E6X version, even though its a 'jig and worm' rod, I use it for all purpose spinning and I really like it. I have it paired with a stradic 3000 FK
  3. I use Sufix siege 12 pound test for all purpose fishing with my Curado 200i
  4. back then Loomis was famous for having amazing blanks but crappy guide rings. they never advertised the material like they do now. I used to have older IMX models with the weibe seats that just had aluminum oxide rings and these were expensive back in the day. I know more modern GLX rods used SIC but I dont think the first versions did.
  5. I have not fished with this rod but I do own two other E6X rods and like them. I do have the SJR842 in GL3 version and really like the taper. its a great do it all rod that's not too heavy. Which is why I suggested the same rod in the E6X version. It should be great as well. Can anyone who has fished with the E6X SJR842 comment?
  6. I have the 200i and love it.
  7. for a budget of $240, wait until american legacy puts the Loomis Escape Travel rods on sale at Black Friday for $100 off and buy one. Thats what I did last year. the last two years they have put them on major sale for Black Friday, this year might be no different. it will be totally worth it. they come with a nice indestructible travel tube and rod bag too. its the complete package.
  8. Im a suffix Siege guy myself. love the stuff. 12 pound. Strong as big game and just as abrasion resistant, only casts twice as well. I used to be a trilene guy until i tried Siege. now im hooked lol
  9. switch to 6 pound mono and try a good limp line like Sufix Siege or elite. I use 6 pound Sufix Siege on my 1000 size shimano's and it casts amazing. and strong too. Big Game is very coily line.
  10. I had one too with a chronarch 100A. loved it but always wished it was longer. back then 6 to 6'6 was what everyone wanted. Nowadays, I use the MBR903c E6X which is the MBR MH taper but 7 foot 6 inches long . I love it.
  11. I use a curado 200i PG with a 5.5:1 gear ratio. its perfect. lots of power yet not too slow
  12. i don't own a curado K but I do own a curado 200i and when the side plate latches properly there is an audible 'click' when you slide the switch to close it. does yours make this sound?
  13. when I got started heavy into fishing (the late 90s) THE rod to get was the MBR783c IMX from G. Loomis. The thought back then was the extra durability of the IMX over the GLX was worth the slight decrease in sensitivity (and also saving money too). now there are many other players in the higher end rod market. but when I got started everyone raved about the IMX.
  14. I have not fished with one, but to me, they feel awesome handling in the store. if they are anything like the classic IMX line, it will be awesome.
  15. I would totally argue that it makes you a better fisherman. With better gear you: -can cast much farther (to cover more water and therefore get more strikes) -detect bites you might otherwise miss (with less sensitive rods) -get a better hookset when you do get a fish on -have much less casting fatigue with lighter and better balanced setups. How is this not making you a better fisherman?? It totally is.
  16. I think its 2x larger. I think 8 pound XT is the same as 12 pound XL. something like that
  17. Sufix Siege is the best mono I have ever used. I like it so much I even use it on my spinning rigs. still casts great.
  18. I used to use XL all the time but starting having problems with strength/break offs. Im pretty sure when they updated it a few years ago (its even softer) maybe it lost some strength I don't know. so I switched to the Sufix lines, I like Siege the best. its like Big Game (strong, abrasion resistant) but much more limp. I even using 8 and 10 pound test on 3000 size shimano spinning reels. No issues whatsoever.
  19. did you back off the brake pipe dial? it pushes the pipe forward when its on the highest setting and can cause the plate not to be able to latch. also as mentioned the cast control knob. I have the I series and its the same. I doubt you broke/bent something. just have to back everything off, put plate on, then readjust.
  20. I would spend a tiny bit more and get a Stradic FK. I have the 3000 size and its awesome.
  21. Thanks Folks, I think I am just tying crappy knots lol
  22. hmm. I think part of the problem is the store I have been buying from has mostly spools that are not the G20 presicion wound boxes (ie they are skinny boxes not the big fat ones). could they be very old spools and therefore brittle line? or when I am using the smaller tests like 10 and under I just need more wraps for my double improved clinch knot? like 6 wraps instead of 4?
  23. thanks, that was another option I was looking at: just use few more wraps when using the double improved clinch knot to prevent slippage which leads to breakage
  24. Hi all, I am an old schooler who uses a lot of crankbaits and inline spinners, so I use a lot of monofilament line. last year I started using Sufix Siege, and I fell in love. its strong and casts very well. However, its so slick that sometimes I have knots that break. When I tie a good knot the stuff is hard to break, but I have had lures fly off in mid air etc. using the trilene/improved clinch knot. I have never lost a fish etc but I have lost a few lures in mid cast which is strange. I am pretty sure it was because the knot began to slip and then break, probably because of the slickness of this mono. I have read people have had the same issue with their other mono, Elite. I am switching over the classic palomar knot for this line. My question is, is there a benefit to tying the double palomar knot with regular mono? I know for braid people like the double palomar, but with mono or a copolymer is there a benefit? or a disadvantage? Thanks
