New Sufix Advanced Co-Polymer Mono
This is probably the in depth review mentioned earlier. Looks like awesome stuff. Now my question is how strong is it compared to Siege? last week i got my mepps #5 spinner caught in some rocks and the hook bent before my 12 pound Siege broke and I got my lure back. Made a believer out of me (note: knot used was a palomar knot). Is it just as strong?

New Sufix Advanced Co-Polymer Mono
anyone tried this yet? As I huge lover of Sufix Siege for both casting and spinning, the 50% less stretch properties of this mono has me intrigued. the few scattered reviews I have found online are so far very positive but I'm curious as to what the experts (all of you) actually think. Thanks

Decision made! Which baitcaster?
another vote for the curado. I own the curado 200i, which was the generation prior to the K and love it, and by all accounts the K is even better. Which makes it a no brainer IMO

Spooling new mono line on a spinning reel?
the way you describe is the way I have been doing it for 20 years. never had an issue with line twist.
-
What Line do you use
its tough but contrary to some reviews, I have found it to behave and cast very well on spinning gear. I have even used 14 pound Siege mono for catching stripers in the ocean while on vacation in cape cod. I think people that had trouble with it on spinning gear did not put the line on properly and it all twisted up. Thats the only explanation I can come up with.

What Line do you use
I use 10 pound sufix Siege mono on spinning 12 pound Sufix siege mono on baitcasting. I love siege.

Monofilament line
The Sufix monos are actually one of the thicker lines (eg. Elite, Siege and this new one are about the same thickness as Big Game) but they cast a lot better than BG because they are more limp and much more slick. I had to change knots from a clinch to a palomar knot with Siege because I was getting problems with slippage. Now with a palomar I can't break Siege lol

Casting rod evolution
I'm the exact opposite. I love the fact that the lock nut on the E6X is separate from the foregrip. I hate rods that combine the foregrip and lock nut into one unit (like many shimanos and some St. Croix like the Avid X for example). to each his own

Monofilament line
I'm looking forward to trying this new Sufix line. as I said I love Siege. I'm not a big fan of braid (hated wind knots on spinning gear for example and I was always nervous with leader knots and a trophy fish) so I went old school. And what better way to go old school than with a new modern monofilament? (or copolymer I guess lol)

Monofilament line
I love Sufix Siege. I use it on both casting gear (12 pound) and Spinning gear (10 pound). its awesome stuff IMO.

Spinning Reels in the Rain....
some of the older shimano spinning reels (most famously the older stradics) had a problem where the friction ring gasket would swell when it got wet (only in rain) and bind the reel. They used to call them 'Shimbindos'. The recommended fix at the time was to remove the friction ring and use the reel without it. the friction ring is what prevents the handle from moving forward hard enough to engage the bail on a hard cast. But as long as you were not making insane casts the reels were fine without them from what I heard. but I believe that problem has long been corrected.

Daiwa THIS, Shimano THAT, Abu THIS, etc etc -HELP-
for what its worth, I think the last few years worth of shimano spinning reels (with the propulsion management system) cast better and have no line twist relative to other spinning reels I've tried.

Help identifying rods
Duckett rods are white as are the Abu Garcia Veritus I believe. this might narrow it down

Advanced Baitcasting
lol the thing is i think there are a million videos like this already

Advanced Baitcasting

Advanced Baitcasting
So, does anyone else find themselves doing strange things while casting with a baitcaster after using one for years? I, for example, will often cast and switch hands as normal (i learned the old school way back when lefties weren't common) but I will stop the spool with the hand that i switched to without even realizing it (rather than casting, stopping and then switching to reel). And then I think 'wow' lol Also, how many of you raise your thumb mid cast (when the spool is spinning fastest) right off the spool? this is how i learned to cast, i was taught not to feather the spool until the end of the cast to stop. is this common? or am i in the minority on this? I am thinking about starting up a youtube channel to help people learn how to cast etc. I think it would be pretty cool to do.

Leaders in pike country
i use old fashioned black coated steel leaders. I wouldn't want to risk flouro with a trophy pike on the other end. those big teeth are razor sharp

casting ultra light lures
I know they are an investment, but the G. Loomis Trout series of UL rods are incredible I have the TSR791 that I use with 4 pound test Sufix Siege mono on a 1000 size shimano spinning reel and it is amazing. They make a few rods in the lineup that are longer and lighter for throwing really light stuff. they are worth a look if you are hardcore into UL fishing like me.

Lure flew off during a cast...
a lot of the modern flouro and mono lines are very slick, so a trilene knot can start to slip and once it starts to slip it can break. I was having a similar problem with Sufix Siege mono line, when I tied a good knot i couldnt break the stuff, but i was getting problems with knots holding. So I started tying the palomar knot and all the problems went way. strong and no slip. I would try the palomar knot. its easy to tie and works very well for slick mono/flouro lines.

Daiwa fuego lt spinning reel review

Shimano Cranking Reel
the US market calcuttas are 5.8:1 i believe which should be good for cranking. however they are a round reel. I use the curado 200i which is 5.5:1 and love it but its the previous model since the K came out. I love the slower powerful ratio so I won't upgrade to the K unless one with a lower ratio is introduced. seems shimano is all about fast fast fast with newer reels. it sucks.

Glx mbr 843c or jwr 853c
for lighter stuff, perhaps the GLX 842c?? the review over on tackletour loves it.

Medium action vs Moderate fast?
they are confusing power and action. power refers to the amount of stress it takes to bend a rod and is expressed as UL, light, medium, MH etc. Action is another word for taper and describes WHERE the rod will bend upon being deflected (extra fast bends right near the tip, fast bends further down, moderate bends almost half the length of the rod etc) that rod is ML power but no idea what the action/taper would be. its an error on their site.

It’s a major award, I won it.
d**n. and I thought it was gonna be a leg lamp.

Show off your Stuff
^ awesome. however, they really should have continued the 5.5 gear ratio model from the I series over. I don't understand shimano?
