  1. As far as 12 pound mono goes, I have landed a few 18 pound redfish while fishing and florida and many 20+ pound salmon fishing the great lakes on 12 pound mono. These fish pull harder than any bass. Granted, these fish were hooked in open water and can run etc. but my point is that 12 pound mono is very hard to break while actually fishing. if you have 12 pound mono that snaps easily its because either the line is bad or your knots suck. most of the time its the knots. a lot of times people don't tie very good ones.
  2. when i learned to use a baitcasting rig 20 years ago there were very few lefties on the market. so i learned to cast and switch. Now I'm so good at it 20 years later I catch myself casting and switching hands before the lure even hits the water. I do it subconsiously i guess.
  3. i have a Loomis E6X MBR903c which is the 7'6 MH 'all purpose' bass rod that I use for everything, it would fit the bill. the 7'6 length makes it a great caster with good hook sets after long casts etc. it might be an idea to look into.
  4. wow. i know 14 pound Siege is tough to break, possibly the Advanced has a lower knot/tensile strength, but it is likely more supple, and of course we know it will be more sensitive due to the reduction in stretch. Siege is very strong line but i would say it is stretchy. it really stretches before it actually breaks, and it sounds like a gunshot when it does.
  5. what knot were you using with the advanced? If it is slick like Siege, i had problems with an improved clinch knot slipping and breaking with Siege. Once I used the palomar knot, i straightened the hook on a #3 mepps spinner getting my lure back from a snag with only 6 pound test. made a believer out of me. with the right knot Siege is STRONG.
  6. I went fishing yesterday with Sufix Siege 8 pound on my stradic 3000 and 12 pound on my curado baitcasting rod and it was amazing on both, great casting especially. However I didnt catch anything. Im curious how the memory would compare to Siege, but I can't find it locally in my area. Siege has a bit of memory at first but after a few casts it really loosens up and casts like a rocket. I would imagine Advanced is the same??
  7. I'm the same. I love Siege its awesome, but I'm watching this thread too.
  8. i use palomar for everything, love it. super strong and easy to tie
  9. i have the E6X MBR903c casting rod (7'6 MH power, fast action) and use it for everything. I can't go back to short rods now. Im 'hooked'
  10. I have been reading a lot about this line too. I currently use Sufix Siege mono on my setups both spinning and baitcasting. any idea how these two would compare? I hope this isn't considered thread hijacking.
  11. I like 1000 size shimanos for UL fishing. I use Sufix Siege 4 pound test. I agree with the others, switch to a size 1 or 2 Mepps Aglia or Black Fury and you should be able to get great distance with a 7 foot rod. I use a 6'7 UL loomis rod and a #1 or 2 mepps casts a long ways.
  12. i have only used the older clarus rods that were brown in color, but based on that i would say the Triumph is better, it is the same blank as the St. Croix Premier.
  13. cork only for me. when I started fishing hardcore 20+ years ago, good rods had cork, cheap rods had black foam. I just can't get passed the connotation lol
  14. I would order one of the classic Loomis 6 foot casting rods in GL3, IMX or GLX and be done, they are going to be the best out there as 6 footers are getting hard to find, and they are still in production. or i just looked at St Croix's website and they make a 6 foot med power Avid, which would be awesome as well.
  15. i fished the GL3 842S for years. love that rod. i used it for an all purpose rod. I have switched to an E6X 892S rod because I wanted something even longer and love that rod too. they are not quite as powerful as their mag bass cousins, but i wouldn't call them soft either. They have a pretty powerful butt section.
  16. not necessarily. grab a big lipped crankbait or a big inline spinner and try to bring that back through the water with a spinning reel. its almost impossible. just ask the muskie fishermen lol As for me, i use both. Baitcaster for big stuff, spinning reel for the small stuff.
  17. doesn't all braid fade eventually? i have always thought that because of this, the color is there for marketing/attract us fishermen/women, not necessarily for its benefits since after a while its all pale anyway? or have they finally figured out how to make a braid which color doesn't leach out?
  18. 12 pound test Sufix Siege for on my all purpose baitcasting setup
  19. I like mono too for all purpose rigs. My favorite so far is Sufix Siege. I use 12 pound on my baitcasting rig and 8 or 10 pound on my spinning rig. but it is slick stuff, so a palomar knot is best to use with it.
  20. i think the sufix titanium was discontinued? I can't get the Advanced any where around here in Ontario (places that had it are sold out) but i did manage to get a bunch of spools of Sufix Siege at 50% off (Bass Pro spring classic sale) I find the Siege is like that too and it does cast very well, so I definitely think it helps/. One thing I did find was that i had trouble getting improved clinch knots to hold with the slick sufix monofilaments, once i went with the palomar knot i cant break the stuff lol Sufix makes great mono all around
  21. yes they supposedly did. but recent reviews on tacklewarehouse still have people complaining. so there are tons of them out there with the old (or not enough) adhesive. I guess my point is that this really shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. I mean, its not a Shishamo!
  22. im not buying one until they make a running change to the two piece clutch bar. lots of them fall apart. and then fall apart again after they are fixed/glued. they should have left it the way it was like on the curado I and citica I. did they rush this one before doing enough testing? a reel at this price point shouldn't have a clutch bar that breaks so easily. every other review on tacklewarehouse complains about the thumb bar -either it broke, squeaks or feels cheap. come on shimano! (and Im a shimano fan boy lol)
  23. to me, a guide insert popping out is a warranty claim under manufacturing issue. I have been fishing for 25 years and I have yet to have this happen. The adhesive they used let go. it wasn't your fault unless it was caused from obvious impact with something, got stepped on etc.
