  1. Cant go wrong with a mh fast action rod in the 6`6 to 7 ft range. I as well fish from the bank but do not have a kayak nor a boat. Id go with a 7.1 ratio reel as well. A good all around setup. Others will be able to assist you better. What is your price range that your willing to spend?
  2. since I started using big I have had no complaints. I use it in 12lb for my top water setups
  3. I use a 7.2 to 1 ratio reel for my flipping and pitching. The old lady asked what iwanted for Christmas and the reel I showed her was a 8.1.1 reel. regardless the 7.2 has never let me down. So a good fast reel with good gears will do you good. As far as company and retrieve go that's all on the user
  4. I use a 7ft veritas as mine with 12lb big game on a 6.4.1 reel. Have had great success doing so for now
  5. I ordered two of the inferno`s on black Friday. Waiting for them to arrive which should be within a few days. A 7 ft mh and a 7`2 mag. Cant wait to try them out
  6. Thanks for all the feedback guys. Sadly I missed out on the bps sale. They were all sold out by the time I got home from work today. How ever I will be checking out japan tackle.
  7. To all the metanium users out there, I'm looking to pick one up. Bps has the 13 on sale for the weekend and I'm thinking about purchasing it. But my question is has anybody that uses this reel have used the new mgl? If so is it worth it compared to say spending the $300 on the 13? I want to utilize the opportunity while its there but don't want to feel like id be wasting my money if the mgl is that much better. Thanks again
  8. 1:shimano 2:Lews only two companies that I have used in the baitcaster scene so far
  9. depends on the length you wanna use . My 7`3 is a med heavy and my 7`5 is a heavy.
  10. thanks a lot for all the opinions. Think I`ll try big game first because of the price then go from there. Really appreciate it
  11. for 12# just doesn't hold up to my expectation. Getting random breaks throughout the line even when freshly spooled. It has happened with a few different brands. And for the life of me I cant remember the brand I had a huge spool of that lasted me a few years without a problem. But since I ran out of it two summers ago ive been experimenting with different brands trying to find something good
  12. To all the people using mono line what is your go to company? Looking for a good brand as I have not been thrilled about the few brands ive tried. Is the Berkley big game any good? Seeing the cheap prices makes me iffy about purchasing it because of how cheap it is. Looking to stay at 12 lb. I have braid and fluorocarbon setups and just looking for a good mono. Thanks for your time
  13. being a righty i find it weird that i can not get comfortable with right hand retrieve reels. Needless to say all my reels are left hand retrieve. Guess that's about as close as i can get to your question lol
  14. Ill probably pick up both to try out as I do want both reels lol. I have always had shimano`s growing up and have always like them. They have always done good to me. As I'm new to baitcasters ive picked up a lews for my first and a shimano on my 2nd time around. Ill most likely stick with shimano to complete my arsenal but will expand out to try a higher end lews and an abu Garcia and diawa reels. My go to for now will always be shimano though. But that can change Agree with fishballer. Please do tell even if its in a pm
  15. I use a 7ft rod for pitching and flipping since I find myself in tight spots a lot fishing. Sadly no boat yet . Once I do get a boat though ill grab a 7`5 7`6 rod. I'm only 5`6 and don't really care for throwing an 8 ft+ rod. But that's my preference
  16. I currently run a lews carbon fire I got from dicks for $60 bucks and a shimano curado 201hg and even though I haven used the curado much since I purchased it a few weeks ago because of work I really like it so far. I also picked up two typhons from another company for rather cheap. $144 for the two of them. Havent tried them out yet as I still haven't decided what rods I want to mount them to yet. They don't feel to bad but like I stated I haven't fished them yet. They will eventually became back ups though once my arsenal grows to the point I can get the more expensive reels that I do want. But I have no complaints about my curado 201hg
  17. So the 70 is that nice? I just picked up a 201hg a few weeks ago and love it so far. The local shop didn't have any 70`s to feel. Anybody use the chronarch? If so how would you compare the two?
  18. I don't have any med rods yet but my 6`6 mh fast I cant cast anything lighter than 3/8 without having any issues. But anything heavier than that and I'm fine. Learning rather quickly with trial and error though lol. I myself am rather new to baitcasting as well
  19. And have been recently looking at the favorite phantom. Summit is out of my price for now. As well as the higher end g loomis rods
  20. I will most likely be using braid with some sort of leader. But I'm not exactly sure yet. I have 2 brand new 6.3:1 reels that need to be paired to rods. I'm not trying to exceed past 7ft but don't mind if its only by an inch or two. I'm not trying to spend big bucks so roughly no more than say 150 a rod for now. Trying to expand my arsenal for now then will eventually purchase some cadalliac rods lol. Ive been eyeing up the *** oman 2, lews david fritts, diawa dx-bass and st Croix premier crank and *** defy black. The squarebills ive been throwing are the 1.5. Still manage to bring in tons of vegetation. Its shallow up to about 10 15ft out. No idea what the back of the lake is like as you need a boat to get back there
  21. My plan is using it for spinnerbaits chatter baits swim jigs. That's why I was curious as to what the crank power was similar to. Unless the crank rods would be no good for that. I do need a rod dedicated for cranks though. But the lakes I mainly fish for now I don't really throw any cranks because the vegetation is bad and the lakes are only 4ft deep. Throwing cranks from land tends to be more aggravating then its worth
  22. I have both a shimano and a lews. I do like them both but am also rather new to baitcasters. Picked them up in the beginning of the season. Running a lews carbon fire and a shimano curado. So from how it seems I take it the chronarch is over rated and not worth the price? Curious as that is a reel on the wish list currently
  23. Thanks for the help. Ive spent hours trying to figure it out before posting but couldn't really find what I was looking for answer wise
  24. 8-17lb 1/4-1oz. the 7ft model
