  1. I like them as well. The Tec Spec Elites (Blue rod) were on clearance in my Field and steam for $44 regular $80 rod. I had to imagine what the wife would do to me if I got a 3rd rod in less then a month to stop myself from buying it.
  2. I wanted to try out my other Fathers Day gift. Brand new Field and Stream Inferno 2 piece casting rod. Caught a Bass and a Pickerel. Rod was pretty nice considering it's $25 price.

I also forced myself to fish them Texas weightless after watching a Youtube vid where Gary said he designed them to be used this way. I use them wacky in water without a lot of weeds, Weightless Texas in everything else.
  4. I had the same experience with a Pickerel this weekend. I cast a wacky rigged dinger to some pads. I felt a tug, set the hook only to reel in empty line, no hook no bait. I thought my knot slipped, which hasn't happened in awhile. Tied a Fluke jr on and cast to the same spot. Pickerel slammed the bait and when I reeled him in I noticed he had the Dinger hooked in the side of his mouth. His needle like teeth had cut my line as I was able to see my knot was still intact.
  5. Keep your rod tip down to avoid the "line sail" issue. Also try casting with the wind if at all possible.
  6. I like Yum Christie Craws and Zoom Super Chunks (regular and JR versions) Don't overlook modified trailers as well. I cut my Strike King Caffeine Shads and Yum kill/warning shots in half and use the back ends as trailers from time to time.
  7. And here I thought I was the only one who hates having moss green line on my reels with red accents. Looks too much like Christmas to me. I tend to stick with clear lines most of the time. Stren clear blue fluorescent is awesome as it is a purplish color above the water which lets me see it better while fishing.
  8. Shoot, I get as much enjoyment, if not more, in buying fishing equipment then I do in landing a fish
  9. The perfect definition of YMMV (Your mileage may vary) For me it works. I use it on Mono and Fluro and notice it reduces the line memory issues I have.
  10. I would be over the moon for one of those Smallies, much less two! Congrats!
  11. Dick's has a replacement plan where you can get a replacement even if you break the rod. It's different from a regular warranty. I personally would not try to get a new rod if I broke the old one due to my own clumsiness through a manufacturers warranty. That's why I like the replacement plan.
  12. Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show was better than the original movie it was based on.
  13. My friend is right handed but uses left handed bait cast reels. He says it feels un-natural to switch hands after casting. Both of us use spinning gear 90% of the time so I can understand where he is coming from. I use right handed bait cast reels. The cast then switch hands is almost like breathing to me. You physically do it but it is not something you think about while doing it.
  14. I carry this when bank fishing. It holds up to four 3500 series organizers. I usually have 2 of the 3500 boxes is the main compartment and use the rest of the room for multiple packs of soft plastics. For a small tackle bag I am able to get all of the above plus wacky tool, tape measure, Yum scent spray, Hook-eze, sunscreen and bug spray. I have bigger tackle boxes at home that I store my tackle in. I transfer what I need for the trip to this bag and off I go. For trips where I am fishing for 2 hours or less I generally bring 1 3500 box in my back pocket.
  15. Like you mention I like sticking to a rod i can find at my local box store. Dicks carries St. Croix Triumph and Fenwick Eagle rods. Both are great rods and if you get the replacement plan you can just walk in and get another one if you break them. Walmart carries Abu Garcia Vengeance and Daiwa Jupiter rods with the same deal. Both stores carry Berkley Lightning rods (regular and Shock) and Cherrywood HD rods. These are cheap solid rods. At this price point I don't sweat it if I snap the rod tip off in a doorway.
  16. Green pumpkin Watermelon pearl laminate Pumpkin pepper green flake Watermelon seed Morning dawn
  17. What a bittersweet thread. The Father's in this thread passed their knowledge and love of fishing to their son's. Now it is our turn. My dad is still here. We don't get to go fishing as often as I would like. His parts don't work as well as they once did. Getting in an out of a canoe would be impossible. We try to take a charter out once a season for some Smallmouth Bass fishing. It's times like that I treasure and am thankful for.
  18. Same here. I also imagine Ghoti as the founder of the Bass Mafia tackle box company.
  19. I have the Stealth and I find the casting distance and the ease of casting to be extraordinary. I have the Black Max as well and there is no comparison between the two for me. Stealth is the winner IMO in casting, drag and weight. The Royale Legend is the cheapest baitcaster by Kastking. I would expect the quality to be on the lower end of their spectrum. I notice this with my Kastking spinning reels. The Sharky II is a noticeable step up from my Mela II. You could very well have a lemon. The good thing is Kastking customer service is great. Contact them and see what they can do. I was able to get a new drag knob for my reels as mine was defective. I sent them a picture and a new knob was in the mail the same day.
  20. Watch Leo Sheng on Youtube. His channel is called Extreme Philly Fishing. He loves the pink Senkos and catches lots of Largemouth, Smallmouth and Pickerel on them. I am not brave enough yet to try them. I might go solid white as I notice I have been doing well with baby bass laminate. I think the white bottom has been attracting fish to strike.
  21. Finesse is the way I like to fish Wayfarer are my signature sunglasses. I have been wearing them since Blues Brothers and Risky Business came out in theaters. Wish I could change my name to NY Wayfarer. I think that would be a better name as NY is my home state and I am not so much a finesse fisherman since discovering these forums. You guys have inspired me to try new techniques. I am always casting and retrieving a beetlespin, spinnerbait or swimbait during my fishing trips now. Next up are cranks and jerkbaits.
  22. I conduct interviews at my job for new employees. This is one of the canned interview questions I have to ask as assigned by human resources. In my experience it is important to have an answer for this question. I have had many people say some variation of I have no weakness. Which if you think about it is a weakness. It is a lack of humility or not being able to look at themselves honestly. A good answer to this question is a weakness that could also be considered a strength. Something like I hate missing deadlines, I will do anything to avoid doing that.
  23. I cracked a joke at one interview when they asked me that question. I said "Kyrptonite" I didn't get that job so don't follow my example
  24. I wear Crocs when using my canoe. Bank fishing used to be whatever old sneakers I had laying around that I didn't mind getting muddy or dirty. After getting poison oak, I have a dedicated pair of boots I wear when fishing from shore. I rinse off the outside of them after every trip.
