I want to try a baitcasting setup. Opinions?
Stay clear of the silver max. I bought a silver max and it reeling in after one outing. I sent it back in to get another silver max sent to me and the star drag didn't work. After sending in the second silver max I was sent a third one that also quit wouldn't reel in after one outing. For my troubles I was given a Revo S by Abu Customer service and I did not have to waste anymore money by sending in a reel for the third time. Kudos to Abu's customer service but STEER CLEAR OF THE SILVER MAX its a piece of garbage.

Rod Selection: The Basics
I usually carry 3 set ups and I mainly fish from the bank. All casting setups. 1. 6'9" Medium x-fast for weightless plastics 2. 6'6" Medium Heavy m-fast for chatterbaits 3. 7'0" medium Heavy fast for bottom t-rigs and other bottom applications I rarely bring out my other 2 set ups especially my crank set up because the constant snags became too much of nuisance.

When to Set the Hook?
It depends on the lure. A lot of trial and error. Moving baits you will feel the pressure and all you will need to do is a slight sideways sweeping action. I was taught to wait 2 to 3 seconds on top water strikes and it works well for me. I mainly us braid with a leader for bottom applications and weightless plastics so I can feel anything that touches the lure. But I'm nobody, when in doubt set the hook!

Fish grippers on bass?
I refuse to touch catfish which I have caught while bass fishing on artificial lures so the lip grips come in handy for that. I use them to weigh bass over 3 pounds.

What's the skinny on the T-Wing
I have 2 tatula type r reels and I love them both, one in 6.4.1 and the other being 8.1.1. I don't think the t-wing gives extra casting distance but I love the feel of the reel. The only problem that someone may have is leader knots getting caught in the skinny part of the "t'. But that doesn't deter me from getting more reels with the t-wing because I generally don't use leaders longer than 6 feet. More Daiwas will be added to my arsenal.

Buzzbait Setup?
7 foot mh/f should do u just fine. I really don't see the need for heavy rods. I tend to go with braid or flouro.

Question to all bass fisherman/women
I caught my first bass on a night crawler while fishing for bluegill when I was in the first grade. I was participating in fishing competition for the kids who's parents where members at the local VFW. I actually got the biggest fish award. Watching outdoor channels got me hooked on bass fishing after that. My first bass on an artificial lure was caught on a buzzbait that didn't even break the surface.

GANDER MOUNTAIN CLOSING
I been checking my local gander mountain every week and the deals aren't even worth it. All the fishing stuff was 10% off initially and now it's 15%. These discounts don't matter when the price is already jacked. Hopefully before they shut the store down they have some bigger discounts. I'm hoping to snag some St Croix rods for a good price.

O rings on Senko's
I just started using O-rings on my wacky rigged senkos. So far I got hit 4 times and pulled in 2 of them. I'm not going to blame the 2 I missed on bad hookup ratios because I feel as if I let those fish get away. The worm is still in great shape after 4 hits and has a long way to go in my opinion. I use 2 O-rings by the way. I only use yamamoto senkos.

Diawa T-wing, better or worse with line to leader knots?
I got a tatula type r with the t-wing level wind. I never tie extra long leaders to where they pass through the level wind. I have a leader tied on with an Alberto knot and it won't go through the t-wing but I don't like my leaders going back into the spool no matter what type of level wind my reel has so that isn't an issue to me. Keep the leaders between 6-8 feet and your problem is solved.

What to do with a 7'11" HMF Rod???
I found a St Croix Mojo Bass casting rod on sale for $75 so I grabbed it. It's a 7'11" heavy powered rod with a moderate fast taper. The rod is made for flipping into heavy cover but with me living in Indiana there isn't a lot of heavy cover in the ponds and lakes that I fish. I need some suggestions on what I can use it for besides flipping.

Jig Bites Issues
I have been fishing 3/8 ounce jigs with chunk trailers lately. I'm in Indiana so it has been pretty cold. I have been working them across the bottom very slowly and I have only been able to land 2 fish so far. I have been getting a lot of bites but I end up missing on the hookset. I'm fishing braid with a flouro leader so I can feel the bottom and the bites very well. Are the bass nibbling at the trailer or am I getting too excited on the hookset? Often times the trailer is about to come off once I reel it in after the bass keep nibbling at it. What am I doing wrong? Or is this typical fall behavior?

I actually haven't, I will give that a try. How do I add roll? Whenever I try to overhand cast I fling the rod like it's a spinning set up and usually leads to a backlash. I just avoided it as a whole but I still get great casting distance.- Fishing in Indiana Makes You Better?
DNR only stocks catfish and trout. When I'm fishing Geist I can only pull out largemouths no bigger than 2 pounds. I caught and broke all of my PBs in retention ponds.- I'm new at the bait caster in line usage
Lews is my brand of choice when it comes to baitcasting reels. It takes time to learn how to use baitcaster properly. Start out with the dial max. U won't be able to cast too far but it will helped get you accustomed. No need to swing for the fence the lure will come out smoothly. Think control over power. P.S. I still can't overhead cast but it has not hindered me in anyway.- Abu Garcia Customer Service
