  1. Same for me. I’ve had really good luck with the air tail wiggler on a shakey head the last 3-4 yrs.
  2. This right here! I do same thing. I’ve found that Cajun Red line works well for this method also. 10# Cajun mono is really cheap at Walmart or Academy. Fill spool 1/3 to 1/2 with the cheap mono, then top off with the expensive fluorocarbon or braid.
  3. Didn’t wanna post again until it was over, so…………… HAIL STATE!!!! WRAP IT IN MAROON AND WHITE!
  4. I didn’t wanna comment on this yesterday bc my team was still battling and clinched the final spot in the CWS tonight against ND. Congrats to the Vols, y’all are looking mighty strong. HAIL STATE & GO DAWGS!!!

I have found this stuff works better than any of the other OTC remedies. It’s like camphor mixed with clear finger nail polish. So the camphor relives itching while the nail polish is supposed to “smother” & kill the chigger bug. At least that’s what I’ve heard. Stuff has worked for me for a number of yrs now. It’ll still take a couple of weeks to clear up. And I usually apply it twice a day, especially that 1st week when the bites are so annoying & itchy. I usually get it at CVS, but it’s getting harder to find in the stores but they’ll order it for ya. I always keep an extra bottle around & will get another once I open a new one. https://www.chigarid.com/shop/ Also, any bug repellent with DEET should do a pretty good job of repelling chiggers along with skeeters & ticks. I spray liberally when bank fishing. Just forget sometimes, so the Chigarid is handy to have.
  6. I’ve met Rick Clunn twice now, both times at local Bass Pro Shops. I found him very nice, pleasant and accommodating. We spoke at length both times & after a few minutes, you really do get a sense of his Zen like approach to bass fishing. We all get in a rush at times, maybe he was super busy and that was the reason for his abruptness. And then, heck, I’m only 53 and I get grumpy at times. ?
  7. Two words: ELECTRIC CHICKEN ???
  8. Yeah, I bought the VMC version with EWG hooks. Think I’ll try to put a few together on my own next time. Somebody else replied in a recent Tokyo Rig topic that they use heavy test fluorocarbon for the leader instead of the wire. I like the idea of customizing the length as well as the fluoro being a bit more flexible. I got plenty of EWG gamakatsu and owner hooks lying around.
  9. @roadwarrior and @mcipinkie ? Yep, already ahead of you guys. Both are baits I’d planned on getting to give a try. ?
  10. 6.11 largemouth on Stanley Ribbit frog with a double take hook.
  11. Yeah, after I posted the question I remembered a video where 2 bullet weights were placed flush with one another. Will try that. Thx for the replies. I’m actually gonna try it with some smaller 3-4” swimbaits based on another video I watched recently.
  12. Just picked up a couple of the VMC Tokyo Rigs and gonna give em a try for the 1st time. My question is regarding the bullets weights I’ve seen used in numerous videos, no matter the application whether it’s punching, flipping, or open water. Everybody always seems to place the bullet weight in the opposite direction of the way I would expect, with the cone shape facing down. As such, when reeling you are pulling against the flat face of the bullet weight. I would expect that you’d wanna put the cone facing up instead of going “against the grain” so to speak. I’d think it’d be more weedless and less likely to snag with the cone facing the lure retrieval direction, like a Texas Rig. Am I missing something?
  13. @TOXIC thx for sharing this. Wow! I got goosebumps reading it. I really believe the miraculous happens with a whisper in those truly quiet and still moments, instead of these huge, grand events like we often expect. If we could only slow down and be still & quiet, moments like this would happen more frequently...... and the world would be a better place.
  14. I’m big fan of the Gamakatsu short shank trebles with the magic eye. Def makes replacing a lot easier.
  15. Honestly, I got a 2” Subwart and only use it sparingly. Like I mentioned in your previous thread, I like the Baby 1-, the small BPS Egg, and the Academy Sports brand wakebaits. Have tons of success on all 3. If you’re new to wakebaits and just wanting to start testing the waters with them, begin with these - they’re all affordable & readily available. And most importantly, they’re not the astronomical amount of $45 on eBay just cause they’re discontinued. ? If you need proof, look at my profile pic, 8 pounder caught on a Baby 1-. Of course, I changed to stock hooks to some short shank gamakatsu trebles. ?

@Sam Uh no, I’m not really ready for some football. Got a feeling my Bulldawgs bout to get taken to the woodshed by your Tigers, no matter how many tricks the ole Pirate might have up his sleeve. ???

Looks like the Green Flash color is available on Tackle Warehouse website.
  18. The H2O Express house brand at Academy Sports have been very productive wakebaits for me. Affordable & decent color selection. As others have stated, Mann’s 1 minus and Baby 1 minus are good, as are the BPS “The Egg” in both sizes. My experience has been that the smaller Egg and the Baby 1 minus swim a little deeper (down to 1 ft) than their larger versions. But you can hold rod tip up if you need it to run shallower. Sometimes, running a little deeper gets more bites tho.

I think you’ve already answered your own question. All the pics of the baits you posted seem to have different body styles and will have different actions. I can see why the 1st bait would have a wider, more pronounced wobble and action. The fish seem to be preferring that more aggressive action at the moment. A week or two from now, or even a day from now, that might change and they’ll be more tempted to bite a lure with more subtle action. Sounds like you need to make some more of that 1st bait if it’s working so well. ? Great looking cranks by the way. Nice work.
  20. I used to work at the place in Columbus, MS that makes Scum Frogs, Southern Lure Company. The owner is a class A guy and was awesome to work for. Made a many of those soft plastic frog bodies back in the day, right after college. He was always coming up with new ideas for frogs so not surprised he’s got some updated stuff coming out. Back when I worked there, he came out with an idea for a combo buzzbait blade in front of the frog. I came up with the name for it, the Thunder Toad. ? Then he had another idea where there were 2 little frogs connected by a short leader. I came up with the name for that too, Two Tiny Toads. ? He like both names & I was surprised he used them. Not sure if they still make those 2 products. That was probably 26 yrs ago or longer. Like I said, owner of company is a great guy and was fun to work with him.
  21. Kinda looks like the xcaliber squarebill real craw series of cranks. Been discontinued for a few years. https://www.ebay.com/p/14011377643?iid=293108056990
  22. @FryDog62 I am a big fan of the 6th sense movement 80x. I’ve been fishing them for 2 seasons and they flat out catch fish, and caught my PB. As mentioned, they have some great color schemes for a reasonable price. Sometimes Academy will have a sale on them too. They probably have the widest wobble of any crank I’ve ever used. Your rod tip will vibrate almost like throwing a chatterbait. With that said, I’ve never fished them around much timber or laydowns. They def float up slower than balsa, so they may not work best for what you’re looking for. But I have great luck using them in shallow open water or around shallow grass & ditches, etc. They’re killer with a stop & go retrieve. With the aggressive wide wobble, might not be best choice for cold water applications. Flat sided would prob be be suited. But I’ve never tried them in really cold water. They work great in spring when water temps 1st start warming tho. Hope this helps.
  23. I use the same rod for both super flukes and magnum flukes. It’s a MH rod with a fast tip. Tip is stiff enough to get a good hookset using 30 lb braid and EWG gamakatsu superline hooks. Only thing I change is size of the hook: 5/0 for super flukes, 6/0 or 7/0 for the magnums.
  24. I’m probably one of the few that always uses braid for topwater baits. What I change is the action of the rod and the # test I’m using. For hollow frogs, ribbit frogs, and toads, I use 30-50# power pro with a MH rod and fast tip action. For poppers, walking baits (Zara spook types) and propeller baits, I use 10-15# on a M action spinning rod with a more moderate tip. This works better for not snatching the treble hooks away from the bass when they hit. I’ve had to train myself not to set the hook too quickly & let em take it for a sec. Might not be right for everybody but it works for me. I’ve never learned how to tie leaders. I’m too lazy & don’t care to learn. I even use straight 10# braid for my shaky head applications. ?
  25. I’m a huge fan of the Ribbit Double Take hooks. The screw lock helps keep the frog from tearing up as much so you’ll catch more fish per bait. Added benefit I’ve experienced is hook ratio is better plus, the Ribbit frogs seem to swim upright better..... at least for me anyways.
