Tough Conditions/hunting Run Fishin' Report
I hadn't been keeping up with the lake opening schedule and didn't know it was opened on Thursdays and Fridays yet. I've just been fishing on weekend days. I've caught over 100 bass on each of the past three days I've been there this year.

Mounting A Transducer
If the mounting tabs are broken off, Transducer Shield and Saver has a sturdy metal mount system for it. edited: the SSC-2 is the model number of the Shield that fits your transducer. BPS has them in their catalog.

Humminbird Transducer Problem
If the transducer is not below the hull bottom, then it won't interfere with the water flow off the hull to the prop and water intake for the motor. The outboard prop won't affect the transducer at all unless you have the engine in reverse--water has already passed over it before it gets to the prop when going forward. The best location is a little higher (at the step if your hull has that type is transom). A reminder: there is no one-size-fits-all for any brand of sonar transducer. The one that comes standard with all units is the one that fits the most applications world wide (that is why it is the standard). Don't get the thru-hull transducer, get the shoot-thru hull transducer. There is a difference. If you send me a picture of your transom at the hull bottom level and on the starboard side of the motor, I will mark the best location for the SI transducer and return it to you along with mounting suggestions. purdum43@aol.com

Humminbird Transducer Problem
Rhino, the transom mount Compact SI transducer for the 798 is all plastic. Yes it is fragile as compared to the HDSI transducer mount. Jenga, the best application for that mount and any other SI tranducer for console use on thin hull fiberglass bass boats capable of 40 mph+ is to mount the SI transducer above the hull bottom for off-plane use and add a shoot-thru 83/200 kHz transducer (XP 9 20) inside the hull for on-plane depth reading. Connect the two transducers to the display with a AS SIDB Y cable. What that does is disconnect the 82/200 kHz from the SI tranducer and connect the shoot-thru in its place. Many bass boat owners that have jackplates mount the SI transducer to the jackplate. For slower craft, a transom mount setup works fine for SI/DI/2D. I'm not familiar with your particular hull design, but if it has sponsons like the newer ones, you have to mount it lower than just the standard mount allows.

Sd Cards
If you mean in sonar units, yes I do. The mapping software and the card that snaphots, recordings, and GPS data is written to.

Briery Creek Lake...
I fished there today and yesterday and didn't catch any over 6# either day. I caught the most in the 4'-5' depth range yesterday and moved out deeper today and caught more and found several schools of 3#-4# bass. Once I figure out the depth that the fish are suspended in deeper water, I fish areas where that depth is the bottom, especially at creek channel drops. Side Imaging makes finding the fish kind of easy (doesn't make them bite though)

Kenlake Roadtrippers...can You Guess What These Are?
Since the left side beam can "see" to the right of center and the right side beam can "see" to the left of center, an image close to the boat can be seen on both SI returns. The SI side opposite of an object is a weaker representation as shown in your snapshot. The 2D beam picked it up too and it wasn't directly under the transducer. If you would like a cleaner looking 2D image, try the pallet 1 setting and turn on White Line.

Kenlake Roadtrippers...can You Guess What These Are?
The SI beams overlap and anything in the water column below the boat is shown on both sides.

A Few Hb Si Snapshots For Your Perusal...
All of the data is recorded and can be manipulated during playback on the unit or with HumViewer. You can change views, colors, settings, see multi-views, etc. A recording is the same type of file as the Simulator in the unit menu. HumViewer does not have as many color pallets as the unit does. The recorded file cannot be changed, but how it is viewed can be changed.

All of the sunfish family are game fish.

Do a web search for HumViewer and download that software (Free) to your computer. That program will read the Humminbird recordings from the SD card and display all the data.

What Trolling Motor To Use For A 16' Jon?
Two things to consider: 1. Get the most power you can afford--you can't have too much. 2. A bow mount motor will give you better boat control while fishing or navigating.

1993 Stratos Dual Axle Trailer Ques.
Get the correct seals for that type of lubrication system (double lipped). I think it is called Sure Lube (I don't have the trailer anymore). Read the label on the trailer about that system.

You can't change any of the settings to affect a snapshot. The snapshot is a picture file .png Your green color will still be green no matter what SI pallet you change to. You can affect the color some on your computer with a picture software if you change the file to .jpg If you do a recording, then you can change settings just like you can when using the Simulator.

The other color pallets don't function any different, just the contrast seems better to make fish show up better IMHO. Add a low to medium setting on the Sharpness adjustment in the Enhance menu. The high setting does even better for fish but it makes the rest of the image grainy looking.

Since you have the technology to find the fish, fish those locations when you see fish there. Otherwise why bother fishing where there are no fish? I use the Inverse pallet so the fish will show up better.

What Would You Do With This Info?
I fish that type of senario a lot. The best time is mid to late summer when the fish are holding on the deep edge of the vegetation.

Sandy River Reservoir
Landing a fish in that size class is a lot more probable at Sandy than at Briery. Hooking one in that class is a higher probability at Briery.

Sandy River Reservoir
Sandy River Res. has the same 10hp gas motor limit as Briery Creek Lake.

Bass Midday Troubles
I catch the most and largest during mid-day.

Sandy River Reservoir
I fished it the first day it was opened to fishing when there was just a muddy road leading to the ramp. In recent years I can't seem to force myself to choose that lake over Briery Creek unless it is Winter.
