  1. So, nobody pours their own???? Willing to trade Tungsten or Bass Bullet Weights for jigs.
  2. I am looking for 1/8-3/16 oz skirted jigs with plastics barbs with 4/0 or 5/0 hooks. I prefer 60 degree Gammies (light or heavy wire). I have a few of M&N Tackle's left but will need some more. Pr
  3. Team Daiwa 103 HSDF Will handle 4" senkos, 1/8 jigs iwth pork and tubes with 1/8 oz bullets. Keep an eye on ebay for deals. I own quite a few...it all I own actually!
  4. Mann's Phat RAt is the best and I will tell you why. It has a trble hook. it isnt that 3 is better than 2, it is that the one is pointed straight up. Hook ratio is supurb to all dual hook hollow frogs. with a little pratice, it can walk the dog well. for walk the dog action look at Snapg proof's weed demon and the zz walker by Boze I believe. both where made to walk. If I could have one, it would be the 3/8oz phat ra in white! best part is the price at a little over 3 bucks.
  5. Yup, 11 bucks a pack is a bit pricey. Try yamamoto's creature as it is very similar to this one. Teh other one that is very similar and nobody raves about them is the Lunker City "Ozmo". That thing is very nice in the water and does catch fish. With that said, I had the discussion with some friends the other day about cost of tackle. WEll, we all spend about 500 bucks a year on tackle. That sounds hefty until you figure in rods, reels, boat payment, insurance, gas, oil, maps, electronics and entry fees. The tackle is cheapest part of fishing. So, why should we worry about 3 dollar tungsten or 2 dollar soft palastics????
  6. So, how many of you guys buy that stuff? is it worth the cash?
  7. Boys.... The skip with a baitcaster is quite easy with some practice. first off, pick a somewhat light bait, 1/8 oz jig n pig, tube on a weighted hook, senko, take your pick. Baits that are too heavy will nose dive. Then leave about 2 feet of line from your bait to the rodtip. You want to roll cast the baits. Make a "o" with your rod tip and let er fly about 6 inches off the water's surface. You do NOT want to make a fired up side arm cast! it is a nice soft roll cast. Doin it this way you are a little limited in your distance..I would say it works best from about 20-35 ft. So...boat control is essential as well. I have to say I skip about 90% of the time now. I can cast better with a skip than most can with a "pitch". You can cast under docks, tree limbs, into undercut grass banks or any hard to get to places. It is addicting once you get the hang of it. Yes, it takes some practice in the boat...not just on shore. Now, can someone give me direction of how to skip with a spinning reel? never did get the hang of that! Good luck!
  8. captain hook's warehouse is a good source for inexpensive hooks.
  9. TExas rig it with the flutter jigs. Found that you can;t go worn cause it makes the crawfish fall naturally instaed of regular texas rig where they will spin on the way down.
  10. Wire sources....you can find all kinds of stuff at your local craft stores. they have a tone of stuff....not just wire either, glitter, glue, paint, googly eyes...all pretty cheap and somtimes the folks behind the desk are kinda cute!!!
  11. If you don;t care about the hook, there are alot of choices out there....just google "1/8 oz bass jig". Hoestly, I really like Stanley's 1/8 finesse head but don't like the mustad lite wire. Arkie also makes an 1/8 oz. I went through this 2 years ago, thinking they didn't exist. They are out there! I bought sample from about 12 places and settle on M&N because of the hook and I made a mold a started pouring my own. M&N Tackle is still making jigs out of minnesota, I get 1/8oz from him all a couple times a year. custom colors and 4/0 Gammy hooks. He recently had an accident and is hard to understand and his work is suffering a little but...Mntackle@aol.com...I really like the hook. Iheard he makes a 1/16 oz as well but never went that lite myself.
  12. I have some insight on wisconsin river flowages...pm me. In short, we have found that the head of the flowages or river protions are good fishing when the are pushing more water than normal...high rains, spring floods, or during the week! yes, they push a litle more water durig the week when the guys are working the gates. Otherwise, you are better off fishing areas that the fish aren;t dependant or use to current changes like large backwaters, oxboxs, mainlake. Foward some maps I will try to mark them up for you. I have 25 years expeiernce on Wis river flowages.
  13. We have caught bass on "new" structure within 3 days after putting it in. AS far as pine trees....WE don't waster our time fishing them...only caught 2 bass over the course of 26 years fishing bass. Don;t know if there is anything scientific behind it, but, I would have to say bass don;t like pine trees...even old ones without needles.
  14. Thanks guys, I have tried the collar trick without much success. better than without, but still not 100%. The problem with the collar is when I try to cinch the wire tight, that is when it is twists, and clumps up. Any other thoughts?
  15. So, I am trying to tie my skirts with stainless wire but my skirts aren't sexy like other's. What I mean by this is that I have a color pattern I want and when I twist the wire around the jig, my skirt gets clumpy, not evenly spaced and my colors aren't lined up the way I want. I am just doing this by hand...do I need a tool to hold the silicone on the jig while I twist? what is the secret of getting the skirt evenly spaced?
  16. The zz walker is very good, the snagproof weed demon is good with upgraded hooks to Gammy or owner. The one that has the best hookups for me is the Mann's Phat Rat. It has the treble hook which has produced the best hooup ratio IMO.
  17. Haven't seen a mold for that type. looks close to a lunker lure or stanley finesse head? Get your own mold made and pour them yourself. Find mold info a few threads down on the named "large hook jig mold".
  18. Email address BUCKTAIL@stny.rr.com or georgkellar@stny.rr.com fax 607 / 739-8339 Phone # 607 / 739-4303 In-Shore Tackle Co. 241 Sing Sing Rd. Horseheads, NY 14845 George Kellar is the guy I dealt with. You can also buy the silicone from Polytek in PA. They have a trial size for about $125.00 and I got about 8 molds from that size...with enough leftover to do about 3 or 4 more. Thre is a learning curve to making the molds though. Iwill say that george's are pretty darn good. You might have to modify them if you give him a sample that is NOT exactly what you want.
  19. George at In-Shore Tackle makes custom Silicone jig molds for $35.00. They are good for 1000-4000 pours and usually come in 4 cavities.
  20. I use the keeper and like it alot. If you have the problem of it sliding down the line, just add another one. I alos like th efact of eliminating knots. The one thing I don't care for is that you are limited to the fact of having the same lb test on leader and main line. there are times when I like to go a little lighter on the leader. Then I am back to the swviel/knot. I don;t care for the shortcut as I feel the fish can feel the weight when they pick up the plastic and walk off. Iprefer it to be free flowing.
  21. I love this bait as well...you must try it c-rigged! didn;t matter front or back-both work. can you go wrong with green pumpkin?
  22. I suggest googling "tom monsoor swim jig" or "Jimmy johnson swim jig". You will have your pick of articles that describe swimming a jig in great detail. AS to the latest question...you can "swim" any jig in your box. The bullet style heads come through the grass a little better than a flat eye jig. Use the flat eye around wood or rocks. I know there are certain characteristics of a swim jig like the type and size of brush guard, how many strands per skirt, tinsel in skirt, type of hook etc etc etc. If you ask me...just swim with what you have first. no need to buy the "classic swim jig"---just the latest fad in my book. again, Iguess that is my opinion.
  23. Millerman replied to basspro48's topic in Fishing Tackle
RC Tackle, J-mac, and Custom Lure.net (made after Wisconsin's own 2 time classic qualifier through federation Jimmy Johnson)a These have the best grub holder than any other jig on the market, IMO. They are a little pricey but guaranteed to run true and come with a GAmmie! can;t go wrong with the 1/4oz.
  24. My custom jigs, then Satnley, then Lunker Lure
  25. You can alter the mold with a dremel tool. Or you can get a custom mold made from George at In-shore tackle out of NY. It will be made of silicone and good for 1000-4000 pours.
