  1. Top notch!
  2. Beetlespin, Beetlespin, Beetlespin...Uh Oh! Now I've done it. I have caught them plenty of times on poprs when bass fishing too!
  3. Ballplayer/Bassfisherman to Ballplayer/Bassfisherman- Just like you need the proper mechanics in your swing to really benefit from the technology that goes into a high end bat you will need the same feel for fishing to take advantage of high end equipment. I would never go up to the plate with an Easton Hammer, give me my Demarini EVO AX (oh yeah, the red one!) and I will benefit from the composite barrel and flex tuned carbon fiber handle. Same is true when I go fishing; I would never go bass fishing with my old ugly stik combo, give me my Falcon/Cardinal combo and I will land more fish more consistently. Just like a Walmart special bat vs any of my Demarinis; there is a world of difference in the high end equipment vs the cheaper stuff.
  4. not anywhere I've seen it sold. Only clear & green. Roadwarrior would know better.
  5. you can order it from Cabela's: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat600394&rid=&indexId=cat600394&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat600394&id=0030185
  6. Sounds exactly like my honey hole. No trees, rocky bottom. I bet there are some hawgs in that muddy water. You'll only need a handful of lures to whack 'em. T-rig some ribbontail worms (purple, 10") drag them back to the bank and hop them every once in a while, also black & blue jigs with big trailers worked the same way. Pop'rs with white bellies and buzzbaits will cover the top for you. Also try some shallow diving crankbaits (0'-4'max) in the oxbow color pattern (chartreuse/blue back). I rarely throw spinnerbaits in the pond but, I have caught a few fish that way. Fishing early in the am and in the evening will be the best times. My honey hole becomes a dead pond around 10am but, from 5a-10a its rockin'. You may want to go bigger instead of downsizing. Larger profile baits will be seen easier in the muddy water and they'll attract bigger fish. When all else fails go buy a couple dozen minnows. Good Luck!
  7. its just a confidence thing IMO.
  8. My vote is for Falcon. They also have great CS. I snapped one sent it in and a week later had a brand new one, no questions asked.
  9. Definitely topwaters- floating plugs and buzzbaits. I'm not really familiar with pike fishing so I'll leave it there for someone else to finish. Good luck with the new set up!
  10. I vote to fish from 5p to 12a instead
  11. I certainly will. I just have to order the stuff. No stores in my area carry the US. It's so easy to just go and pick up a spool of Sufix at any of the stores near me.
  12. Might help to throw the buzzbait on mono or copolymer. I sense that the braid was causing the lure to rip free, the bass probably never had a chance to hold on. The stretch in mono will allow fish to take the bait better. As for the plugs, what works for me- I just set the hook after the explosion. You've got to wait that extra split second to be sure she has it. Whatever it takes, you have to let the fish take the bait.
  13. I like the Sufix Elite as well. Strong, handles well, and holds a knot. That said I'm going to give Yo-Zuri Hybrid US a try just to see what all the fuss is about (just for you RW ;D)
  14. Yeah Big T. That's 2 birds with one stone. I get great practice casting and my dogs get worn out at the same time. Sometimes they wise up to the line. One of my dogs will actually lay on the line so I can't get the plug back from time to time.
  15. I like to practice in the back yard with my dogs and a hookless plug. I need to get a burner reel though as my dogs are catching up on the retrieve. Brokejaw- Did you get a new combo or are you still trying to decide what to get? Curious b/c I am really debating the Procaster Rojo combo from Cabela's that I posted for you to look at. Was hoping to get your thoughts if you had decided to pull the trigger on it.
  16. Hey Brokejaw. Did you make a decision/place an order?
  17. way to go. I too was recently initiated into the jig brotherhood.

I see you were sucked in the same as me. Welcome to the best site for info on Bass fishing!
  19. This kind of thing has recently happened in NC too. Check it out- N.C. fisherman reels in a piranha - Yahoo! News http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/odd_piranha_catch
  20. Welcome to the most informative Bass fishing site around!
  21. Zoom makes a special Horney Toad hook that screws into the nose of the bait. The most popular size would be 5/0. A 5/0 EWG would work if you don't have access to the horney toad hooks; you might have some issues with the toad sliding down the hook though.
  22. That reel is very nice. It's the Cardinal 502, correct. I have 2 of them and they are really smooth and powerful. Can't speak for the rod though. Mine are mounted on a 6'6" Falcon Original (med/fast) and a 6' Cabela's Tourney Trail IM7 (med/fast).
