"walk the dog" and topwaters
The action is side to side, so that the bait walks back and forth across the water.

red hooks
This has come up a few times and the best answer is always "its a confidence thing." If you feel more confident with the red hooks keep using them.

High Rock Lake this weekend-what's working?
I'll be fishing High Rock this weekend for the first time. What can I expect this weekend? What is working and where is it working? Thanks!

another pond question -- I'm stumped!
I do most of my fishing with a buddy on a pond about the same size. We catch our share of dinks and nice fish. What really works at this time of year are poprs and beetle spins. We throw the 1/4 oz and larger poprs and the largest beetlespin (1/4 oz?). I almost always catch the big fish of the day on a beetlespin. Colors for the popr are silver/black back and g-fleck/rainbow. For the beetlespins; green or orange/chartruese works the best. Just last weekend I landed 2 4lb+ fish back to back on the orange/chartruese beetlespin. Also, at this time of year we catch most of the bigger fish in the middle so having an 8' jonboat really helps. One more thing that my buddy does well with is swimming a t-rigged worm (7.5-10" Culprit original/tomato color); he retrieves it kind of like a slow roll with a spinnerbait. It really works. Also, I feel like this is cheating but, minnows are the deal on ponds. If the fishing is really tough one day we'll go get a couple dozen to keep from going crazy.

Falcon Rods Has Excellent Customer Service!
I just wanted to share my experience with Falcon's customer service. It far exceeded my expectations. I broke a Falcon a couple weeks ago so I sent an email inquiry to the customer service dept. They responded within a few hours and helped me to get everything that was needed to process my warranty request together. The next day I shipped my rod and $10 s&h to Falcon and within 10 days I had a brand new rod. Well done! They gained a lifetime customer in me.

best bait for spawn
Well then I have the answer that will make everyone happy on both sides of the debate: Try the Roland Martin's crowning achievement: Helicoptor Lure, a great bedded bass lure. That or throw the Flying Lure, or the Dancin' Eel. Maybe the Kicktail Minnow. Don't forget, you'll need the rocket rod to launch these lures onto the beds! ;D

Anyone see "300" ??
300 officially opens today. There were some midnight showings last night so, you won't get any feedback on the movie for a few days. That said, the movie is based on a graphic novel(comic book) by Frank Miller (Sin City). Don't know if you have seen that but, it would help you evaluate whether or not you might want to see 300. Expect it to be a little more far fetched than the concept of 300 men defeating the entire Persian army at Thermopolae. I think it will be worth seeing but, that's just me.

Favorite Topwater baits
Rebel Pop'r and Heddon Zara Spooks & Torpedos. These won't break the bank as they are priced around $4-$5.

pond fishing
Also, it's been my experience that fish don't seem to school in ponds like in lakes. They are more spread out and, indeed, have "free roam." Fish in ponds do seem to be a little more affected by changes in the air temp than in lakes as the smaller body of water will warm or cool at a faster rate than a lake.

6'0" vs 6'6" vs 7'0" Rods
It sounds like you should consider something 6'/med. I do alot of pond fishing and this is the type of rod I use most often. It is more accurate than the longer lengths, has enough backbone to land a big bass and not to mention the fun you will have landing that big bass. I'd suggest a 6' Falcon original.

Which Rod to Buy????
Partial to the falcon myself.

pond fishing
I love the ponds! They are very easy to work top to bottom and you really only will need a few lures. I use a popper which has caught all of my big fish. A beetle spin will catch anything in the pond including those big pond bass 5lbs and up. Also, medium (1/8-1/4oz) spinnerbaits and buzzbaits will produce. Then the worm; my preference is a culprit original in grape or red shad from 7.5 to 10". Texas rig it or go weightless and fish it slow; it will get swallowed whole. There is really no need to downsize in a pond. A bass is a bass and it will try to crush lures that may even be larger than the bass itself. Good Luck!

Your #1 confidence bait- vote here
I absolutely slaughtered bass last year with my Rebel pop'r but, my confidence was in the color not the bait itself. I now own several baits in this color and will throw them all with confidence this year. Though I have never seen any baitfish in the waters I fish that resemble this color pattern bass couldn't resist it. Rainbow with Gold fleck (g-fleck/rainbow). Try this color out if you haven't. Every fish I caught over 4lbs last year was on the pop'r in this color. I had to buy several due to the color coming off from repeated strikes. I bought some torpedos and inline spinners in the same color for this year and will be stocking up on zara spooks in the same color. The funny thing is I never would have picked this but, I was in BPS in Orlando last year and my wife fell in love with the pink & green color pattern. Go figure.

Fishin show or 30min infomercial?
Check the VS website. I'm not sure when the original airs. I just look through my on screen guide and set my DVR to record it.

Fishin show or 30min infomercial?
The Bass Pros on VS is the most informative show out there. Whatever technique they choose to focus on each week gets explained in depth. It is the one show I watch because I know I will learn from it. The others I watch just because I can't stop.

What's your phobia.
Feet are gross. They stay couped up and sweat all day, they stay in contact with the ground. It's completely irrational I know but, that's why its a phobia. I seriously jump up and move quickly when feet get in my vicinity.

What's your phobia.
Spiders and other people's feet.

Spool-Filling mystery.....
My cheap fix for that problem was to wrap a soft piece of cloth around the line once threaded through the eye closest to the reel and stuff the cloth through the eye. This keeps the tension but, you must make sure the line is centered in the eye so it will work properly. Don't use a tissue; you'll get lint in your spool. I know.
