  1. I have used this bait before and I have to say it is a good bait. One thing I would say that it is a thick bait, and you have to use a big EWG hook with it. If it you dont have a big gap between an exposed hook point and the top of the bait, you wont get a good hookset. As i mentioned it is a big bait, so you have too have a medium to fast retrieve because it takes a lot of speed to get that big bootail going. IF you wanted something to slow roll, try a keitech. The bait also has a good scent, I would say it is almost like a garlic scent. I usually like throwing it when the water is warmer and around pads. It catches fish; buy a pack of them. You wont't be disappointed.
  2. To start off, cold muddy water is not good. Fishing will be tough, but it can be done. What I would do is look for some deep structure. That is where the bass should be located, usually near a off shore humps and near points. Also, try to find warmer and clearer water. The fish will like these conditions more. Try draging a jig, or slow rolling a swim bait, or underpin.
  3. First off, you have to know the conditions you are fishing in. If the water is dirty, usually you should go with a dark color, such as black, black and blue, or a bright color such as a white of white and chartreuse. Clear water, you should go more with a translucent of lighter color or match the hatch of a life like bait. You also have to find out there main forage, such as shad or crayfish. If the main forage is crayfish, and your fishing dirty water, try a dark color crayfish such as black and blue. If that does not work, try a different dark color such as red and black. If the main forage is shad, and the water is dirty go to a black back and chartreuse. If it is clear water, go to something translucent or a shad pattern. To build your confidence up in a color, find the right conditions and just fish it all day. That is the only way you can get comfortable and good with a lure and a lure color.
  4. I usually use a fluro leader with an FG know in two scenarios. The first one is if the water is clear; if the water has at least 3 feet of visibility, I tie on a leader. The second reason is if I am fishing a bottom bait slowly. This could be on a jig, texas rig, or any other lure that you would drag or work slowly.
  5. On jerkbaits, you can put a lead sticker to make it suspend or sink. Buzzbaits, put in front of a fan so that the blade squeaks. Add trailer hooks to your spinner baits and buzzbaits. Add scent or color to your soft plastics. Trim brush guard on jigs. Bend frog hooks up and out to increase hook up rates. These are just some other things I do to my lures.
  6. I like to use anything that has a lot of vibration, and moves a lot of water. I also look for a plastic that is compact. Some of my favorites are the rage bug, rage craw, and gambler ugly otter.
  7. Do you think there will be some bass that are not really phased by the flooding? Could there still be bass where they usually are during the prespawn. such as humps, and points about 15 feet deep.
  8. Hey everyone, there has been recent rain storms that are causing major flooding in California. Does this kind of rain mess with the bass habits such as what they eat, where they position, or places they move too. I am planning to fish more after the lakes re- open. I am hoping to catch some pre spawn fish and some spawning fish. Are there any inputs or tips for me on this? I have never fished a place where there has been some major flooding, so this is a first for me and a lot of people.
  9. Usally shore, but in this instance boat.
  10. Hey everyone, I was fishing some steep points with underspins, lipless cranks, t-rigs, and jigs. For the moving baits, how do you consistently keep the bait following the trajectory of the point. For the bottom baits, how do you maintain bottom contact. I am really confused and need help. These points are steep and have some small drop offs.
  11. Hey everyone, I was wondering what your thoughts were for a KastKing stealth as a punching and swimbait reel. I will be putting 65lb braid in it with a mini backing. The reason I like this reel is because it is pretty cheap, and it has around 16lb drag on it.
  12. Any paddle tail can work, also the ones that get all tore up you cans till use as a trailer. To get more action out of the bootail, rig the swimbait upside down.
  13. Hey everyone, just wondering how many pounds of drag do you guys prefer for a punching/swimbait reel.
  14. Hey everybody, just wondering how you all fish a moo rig. What weight do you use, what bait, how, where, and when do you fish it.
  15. On YouTube, Bamabass has a video of him using live crawfish and catching bass on them.
  16. Hey everyone, I was wondering what your favorite lure to use is when fishing the winter time grass. I want to use something slow moving that would get a bunch of grass in my life every grass. I will be fishing a pond that has cold water and lots of grass.
  17. For spinner baits, fast taper, medium power, 7'3, and 12-15lb fluro. For swimjigs, fast taper, medium heavy power, 7 foot, and 40-50lb braid. I just prefer a beefier setup for swimjigs because I am mostly throwing them into more cover than a spinner bait.
  18. Hey everyone, has anybody used the *** Defy Black Crankbait casting rod. It is 60$ at Tackle Warehouse and thought I would give it a try for my treble hooked baits.
  19. Hey everyone, looking for a moderate action and medium power rod for crankin. I will be throwing squarebills, medium divers, jerkbaits, and rattle traps. I will also have it paired on a bantam cuardo. Just wondering if anybody had suggestions on a rod for around 50 bucks.
  20. One of he reason's why I choose the big bootails is because there are endless ways to rig them. You can put it on a belly weighted hook, shakey head, underspin, and much more. It also is better in cover; I would rather lose a big soft plastic swimbait than a hud.
  21. The FG knot is the only knot I use for braid to fluro. It takes sometime to master, but it is worth it. It is the thinnest knot there is, and will go threw micro guides.
  22. Do steel heads have bonier mouths than freshwater rainbow trout?
  23. I live in the East Bay, and I am willing to travel around an hour.
  24. Hey everyone, just was wondering what all of your favorite bed fishing baits are and what color. Are there any other tips for bed fishing to get the female to bite?
  25. I have a 6'6 medium heavy moderate action rod with a 7:1:1 gear ratio bait casting reel, and a 15lb mono because it floats.
