  1. I just had this happen to me today when cleaning my Daiwa fuego. Unfortunately, one of the springs somehow came off and got mangled in the gears. Will call Daiwa and see if they can help.
  2. How would you describe the action of this rod? I know it's labeled fast, but is it more moderate fast or fast? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks for all the great advice. Much to think about.
  4. This is where my confusion is ultimately. I generally fish soft plastics I seem to prefer xf action rods. But when casting spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, the rod doesn't feel right. So leaning towards a fast action, which I realize varies between manufacturers. I am 100% braid to leader. That fury peeks my interest but have to find one locally to give it a feel. I hear their actions are a little bit slower than most, so that might be a good fit. I do love my carbonlites though but willing to try other brands.
  5. I would like to feel one of these, unfortunately up here in Canada, I have not seen these available in stores. Maybe I will have to call around to see if anyone semi local carries them. I always hear good things about them. Thanks for the advice.
  6. I have the fuego ct in an 8:1 for texas rigged plastics and it's pretty good for the price. The curado has peaked my interest and felt nice when I played with one in the stores.
  7. Looking for some input for a casting setup for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in the 3/8-1/8oz range plus trailer of 1/8-3/8oz. Thinking of a Shimano Curado K in a 6:1 ratio and not sure about rod yet. Tried on two mh-xf rods and it didn't feel right. Thininkjng of maybe a MH-F rod rated to 1oz. So far short list is as follows... Carbonite 2.0 7ft MH-F Fenwick HMG 7ft MH-F St Croix Bass X 7'1 MH-F Any suggestions in the $100 range +/-. Something in the 6'9-7'0 range. Thoughts on action would be useful as well. Limited fishing time with these techniques so this is fairly new to me.
  8. My goal is simplify as much as possible. Already down sized some equipment and focused on upgrading what remains. Next is the tackle situation, not sure how to do it exactly but will probably be throwing / giving a lot of stuff away. I want to get to a minimalist point. Tired of collecting and carrying more stuff than I would use in an year. I find having too much with me complicates and confuses my choices more than helps. Now I just have to actually do it
  9. Stick to brands that are well known and have good reviews. Shimano, Daiwa, etc. Generally you get what you pay for. A higher dollar reel is generally of higher quality and should last a long time with proper care. A 2500-3000 size is pretty standard. I had a couple of Pflueger President xt's that served me well for a few years, recently sold them to downsize/upgrade my gear and purchased a Shimano Stradic FL that I expect to last quite awhile. Depends on your budget but reels I would put on a short list would be pflueger president, Shimano nasci, Daiwa Tatula Lt, and the Shimano Stradic FL or Ci4+.
  10. Not saying it can't be done but my medium heavy rod is rated to 1oz, a pound is 16oz. That's asking for problems and probably the cause of many broken rods, maybe not right away but down the road.

Flat side down for slower fall and better presentation.
  12. If the fish weighs more than the Lure rating of your rod ( sure hope so ) , you stand a pretty good chance of breaking the rod. Pay the $20 for a net. Easier on your equipment and the fish.
  13. I bought the FL when a local store had a good sale on. It's a very nice reel and very smooth. The weight is not a big deal for me, if anything it balances better on most rods and just feels solid. Can't wait for the ice to melt and go use it.
  14. BPS Stick-O 5 3/8" watermelon candy. So many ways to rig it, hard to go wrong.

A zoom trick worm in either all black or junebug with a chartreuse tail are some of my favorite soft plastics. I wouldn't say they float but the tail will semi float. These do not have salt in them. Usually texas rig them with a 1/8 - 3/16 oz weight and a 4/0 worm hook. I don't generally play with them in the tub though
  16. The 6'8 Mojo might be a bit too stout for what you're looking for, I had one and it was a great rod but a bit too much power. The ML Mojo would be a good bet though. I personally use a BPS carbonlite 2.0 6'8" M-XF rated for 1/8-1/2oz lures. Similar to a st croix ML-XF. It works great for Ned, drop shot, and light texas rigged worms. I use braid to mono leaders so that mat have some impact to the equation.
  17. Wherever they are made they seem very well put together, no flaws on either of my carbonlites and the eyes are perfectly aligned. Good value rod for the money. Plenty sensitive for my needs.
  18. I have a 9yr old and he loves going to one particular spot. It's time we'll spent even if I don't fish, last time he brought a friend which was great to see.
  19. Just think another few months and you'll be out in the warm sun with Grandson's. I cured my winter blues by getting the new Stradic FL. Now I just stare out the window waiting
  20. Does anyone know if this extends to rods purchased before the warranty extension? Just curious as I bought my carbonlites 2.0 versions last spring during their sale. Never had an issue and love them, would definitely buy them again but even better to know their covered even longer.
  21. Wow that's pretty good customer service. Hope I never need to test it out for myself but good to know.
  22. No particular reason but I will go weightless senko, Ned, 1/8oz pegged trick worm, drop shot, then neko. More often than not the weightless senko and Ned rig get the most use.
  23. You don't need expensive gear to catch fish. The thing I have learned though is that it's cheaper in the end to buy quality gear that lasts. It's a hobby and I don't mind spending some money on it, but like most people, it has to be on a reasonable budget. I actually just finished off selling some older gear and downsizing. I only ever bring two rods with me so I figure why have more stuff taking up space. One spinning and one casting, both BPS Carbonite 2.0 rods. Recently upgraded my spinning reel to a stradic fl and plan on upgrading my casting reel to a curado k this year. My goal is to balance quantity, quality, cost, and form/function. Being a minimalist at heart, this system works for me. Now if I could do the same with the drawers of soft plastics and lures I would be golden
  24. While I don't have experience with either of those reels, I would recommend checking out the Stradic FL. Obviously a bit heavier than the two you listed but very smooth and well built. I also find the ultralight weight of some reels tend to throw the balance of the rod off, which for finesse applications can be important some people prefer lightweight setups while others prefer a bit more balance.
  25. Fellow Canadian and kayaker here. I found shorter rods a bit more manageable from a kayak personally. As for the rods I have a hard time buying a rod without feeling it in person and unfortunately many of the rods mentioned are hard to find in retail stores. I do know that Abu does fish heavier than listed. I would think your fury 735 would work well for what you need though. I am sure you know this already but braid helps a lot with sensitivity.
