Fishing in the snow
It is supposed to snow Friday here in central Pa, but I'm hoping to hit my local lake for the first time after work. Is it a dumb idea to throw some soft plastics to the deep spots? The water can't be much over 40° and I don't have any crank baits. Would I be better off with moving baits like a spinner?

Bourbon (And All Things Whiskey. Or Whisky, If You Like Scotch)
Of the whiskeys bourbon is my least favorite. I prefer a scotch or Irish whiskey the Canadians do decent job as well. Most recently it was black velvet in my glass. Before that was Jamison. In not picky though.

Can a spinning reel be used on a casting rod
I have officially stopped as of August of 2016. I hope to catch a new pb that will be accepted as legitimate by my new found bass fishing family here at BR.

Can a spinning reel be used on a casting rod
I did so for many years. I had a rod stolen and was given a BC by a friend. I've never had a budget for fishing supplies worth mentioning so I made due with what was available. I've since made up for the infraction by getting a proper reel on that rod and a second BC setup. Honestly though I had no issues getting good long casts. And I caught my 3 pb's with it so if I don't do well this year I may have to put the spinner back on it.

Bass Fishing Blasphemy
I held it reel down like a normal underpin.

Bass Fishing Blasphemy
My rod was stolen from my car and I was given a baitcating rod by a friend not knowing how to use a baitcating reel at the time I bought an underpin reel. I just learned a BC last season.

Bass Fishing Blasphemy
Since 2002 until 2016 I used spinning reel on baitcasting rod. I've caught my 3 pb's on this setup.

Frog rod logistics
When I fish. Longer rod I will angle it towards the right (I'm left handed with right hand reels) and Dow to the water. That means when setting the hook I pull up to my right shoulder. I have had fairly good results with that approach.

What are the biggest problems you face while fishing?
One of my biggest problems on the water is finding the peak times. It seems the charts I find rarely match up with actual fishing. (And the bite always starts when I have 15 minutes left to fish.)

How many inches is this part of this oar?
Also the oar is at an angle so you may not get a proper reference for you fish measurement.

What's that one secret lure....

Winter Projects
Last year and this year other than hunting I've spent my off season decking out my buddy's v-haul. This season it's getting a rear deck with a live-well.

How many carry while out fishing in the boat.
I rarely carry while using a boat. Bank fishing is a totally different story though.

Kayak
First thing after a pfd I would reccomend a good floating dry box. Saved my wallet and phone a couple times.

Tell me about your best day on the water in 2016
It was early June of 2000. My buddy talked me into night fishing. We left at 8pm and fished till the sun came up. It was one of those nights where you caught a bass every other cast and I didn't realize how long we were out until the sun came up. My wife was not impressed with the story seeing as she was 8 1/2 months pregnant and I had no cell phone. Still for bank fishing it was the best night ever.

Big black jitterbug.
If you want good night for it try a full moon that rises after sunset. I have 2 pbs in the hour after moonrise.

Mono or braid for my lure choice.
I just got a bps bionic reel. It is awesome and on sale at $60. The breaking system is very user friendly and dual breaks on reel under 100 is hard to find. Up I just started using buddies BC reel on my rod last summer. I found using braid made it much easier to train my thumb. I use 50# power pro on my new reel and haven't had any issues with birdsnests. I'm sure that will change when I try throwing some light weight lures but for now I'm practicing with a heavier spoon that I removed the treble from . Like about everyone else I recommend a heavier braid.
