I'm a new fishing kayaker and would appreciate any advice. What do I need while out fishing on my kayak and what is just extra junk they sell? See you on the water!

Welcome. Other than the obvious PFD, that is a very broad question.  Try to narrow your focus in regards to where you are fishing, how, and for what and repost the question in the boats and kayak forum. For example, if you occasionally fish for bass, but love paddling your kayak and trolling, an anchor trolley might not be the place to start.

Fish in it for a while and pay attention to your thoughts

like "hmm, I'd like to have a rod holder over there" and
"I'd prefer to have my lures over here"...

 

Basically you'll start customizing your yak to the way YOU

like to fish. 

First thing after a pfd I would reccomend a good floating dry box. Saved my wallet and phone a couple times.
