  1. You haven't given us much to go on here. Your description sounds like a spinning reel, but you don't mention # line size which is important, and how you spooled the fluorocarbon. There are a couple of articles here on how to remove line twist. And as also said above, don't overfill the spool. To answer what I can, YES Fluorocarbon is wiry stuff in large pound test. but in 6#- 8# can be quite supple. A couple of things like pointed out above, line conditioner can be very helpful. Another option is to use 10-20# Braid with a leader on spinning gear, I find this a pretty good option.
  2. I own a small reel, a Lew's LFS. It casts a long way and is very smooth. The best part is they are only $99.00. Regards'
  3. I thank you for your reply, though I'm unable to decipher what this means? But I thank you, I'll research this for sure.
  4. I appreciate the feedback. I actually like the rod, fished with it this last Sunday, and for the money I feel it was well worth it. But when I went to see what the IM9 was I drew a blank. Hadn't seen IM9 before. Thanks for the reply's
  5. Made it shorter to not clutter the thread. Wow... This is exactly what I was looking for. TUVM!
  6. I asked the same question yesterday, I'm guessing people are tired of this question. I would really like some real information on the IM9 blanks also. This is a quote from here from 2013. This is all I can find.
  7. I apologize if my post wasn't clear. I have used the search here and the articles were all old or for the IM8 version of the Compre. I also googled about IM9 blanks and I'm not finding a lot about the IM9 rod blanks. If anyone has some information please share it. Thank you.
  8. Though I agree with this, he has posted the details of what he found. So the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.
  9. Hi all I just purchased one of these rods a medium heavy fast action 7.3 baitcaster. I know there is a lot of blah on these rods, but it was $50.00 new, so couldn't pass it up, they are discontinued I guess. I have another Compre Medium power that has not failed me yet, I use the medium for light lures. I looked around before purchase, and did not see a lot posted about the IM9 blanks, what is your feelings on these. It feels light and balanced with my Lew's BB1. This was to retire a HMG MH, that is 27 years old now "I don't want to break it, and it's not light by today's standards". Thanks for your time and feedback.
  10. Honestly, I feel you did the right thing. I had one of these rude fishermen, I was fishing the Fox chain of lakes "Northern IL.", There was an tournament going. A Ranger boat saw me and two buddy's fishing a bunch of Lilly pads and accelerated directly towards us, turned at the last second and nearly swamped our boat. We were soaking wet. There's no telling what will happen. Never provoke these kinds of guys, it is not worth it and you could end up injured or worse.
  11. I have an old Fenwick HMG rod, a GTC 845. I fished this rod up to a couple of weeks ago. Still fishes like new, and is still in great shape. Just decided to retire it, because I don't want to damage it.
  12. Any Fluorocarbon line would be good for off the bottom fishing. Fluorocarbon has good abrasion resistance and sinks. The stretchiest is Seaguar Invizx.
  13. I was suggesting new bearings because, it is not a new reel, and I have no idea how long it has been sitting around. It was just a suggestion, he doesn't have to do it. But ceramic bearings add distance/smoothness to these reels. this thread is about upgrading the reel. /Shrugged
  14. Top or bottom fishing? Mono has stretch and rebounds back to it's original form, but is not UV resistant. It is also nick resistant, and floats. Fluorocarbon, has as much stretch as mono but deforms, "Does not return to it's original shape, getting thinner" But is hard for the fish to see in clear water. It also sinks, so adds flutter to bottom baits, as they drop. It's also dense and nick resistant. Ether work in dirty/stained water.
  15. BOCA ceramic bearings. Really nice find!
  16. I bank fish alot. The best part of this is you can go over 30 feet with the bobber stopper. Just need to walk the line length off on the bank to the bobber stopper to get a pretty good idea just how deep it is, By dragging it you can pick out creek channels, depressions and flats etc. And you can use the smallest/cheapest rod you have to do this.
  17. The small brim population, may be a symptom of the over population of bass. The brim not making it to adulthood.
  18. Here's something you can do from the bank, that will give you an idea of the lake layout. I usually use a crappie rod for this. Install one of the rubber float stoppers "like the Eagle claw rubber bobber stoppers" Not advertising! just an example, so he can visually see what I am talking about, please don't ban!, and slip float "The ones you slip the line through the middle, not the clamp style", a weight but no hook. I use a spinning rig for this, You can adjust the rubber bobber stopper and cast out. This will give you an good idea just how deep the lake is, you can move the rubber stopper easily up and down to quickly gauge the bottom. The float will lay over when you are shallower that the rubber stop is set. This outfit will cast a mile as the bobber stopper cast through the guides without issues, and is easy to carry.
  19. You are welcome. Tight lines.
  20. I really can't say. The average life span of a Florida largemouth is 9 years, though I have heard of largemouth of 16 years or older of the northern strain, in colder waters. If this lake is seldom fished/ private, the smaller bass can over run a lake after a wile, the middle size bass need to be culled to prevent stunting as older bass die off. The introduction of bait fish will also help somewhat, after you cull some of the smaller fish. Time to cull the heard, also keep in mind that bad weather/illness can cause large fish die offs. I read an article from a fish biologist who explained this better, you can google it, as I don't have a link. Here is one link: https://www.mdwfp.com/fishing-boating/pond-assistance/small-bass-issues.aspx Time for a fish fry?
  21. My G-Loomis GL2 "Don't laugh, I purchased it for $100 new and think it's worth every penny". Lew's BB1HZL "left handed" Casts a mile with 12# Invizx Plastic worm, green in color, Black color in muddy water, brown & blue in stained water "If I just had one color it would be Green". Spinner bait "willow leaf, chartreuse skirt" 1/2 oz. Zara Spook Top water baits I use Braid.
  22. I can follow a group fishing a spot I think are holding fish, go to that spot they just fished, and pull fish out roughly 50% of the time, using plastics. Have an uncanny ability to know where the fish are and approach quietly, and fish systematically. Some people make way to much noise.
