  1. ..."For every hero's name that's known, a thousand died as well. On stakes and wire their bodies hung, rocked in the ocean swell; And many a mother wept that day for the sons they loved so well, Men who cracked a joke and cadged a smoke as they stormed the gates of hell."... ... From the "Shores of Normandy" a song written by Jim Radford. Jim was a 15 year old galley boy in the Merchant Navy on June 6, 1944.
  2. Had to add one more. 97 year-old WWII veteran, Tom Rice, parachuted over Normandy today to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings. "All The Way, Airborne Trooper!" (Photo: Stars and Stripes)
  3. They use to make a twin tail lizard that I really like and wish they'd bring back. I still have a few bags left. I guess the Christie Critter took its place.
  4. If you only knew. When I retired from the Army, I thought I'd get into Real Estate. Went through the course, took the state test, got my license, and then went to work for a big name company. Within a week I quit and got my teaching certificate and taught Math until my second retirement. There are some things I will not jeopardize, and my honor is one of them.

  6. Seeing all these pictures from the 50s and 60s makes me wish my mother wasn't so strict with her box camera. I picked up a cane pole around 1959. Caught my first bass about 1967 and it was all down hill from there. Love this thread.
  7. Thanks for your offer, but I'm interested in INOX in the box. You should keep that and fish it.
  8. I love my BG2. The only complaint I have is with the center console, it just takes up to much room. As far as the stability goes, it might seem wobbly when you stand, but it takes a good lean before it turtles. I've fished this yak since 2015 and I'm ready to try something different. Unless Ocean makes some major upgrades, I'll probably cross over to a different brand. (Been a loyal OK user since 2009) I've been looking real hard at the ATAK 140 and Bonafide SS127.
  9. Every year I face the dilemma on whether or not I should throw one of these at the bass. Rapala discontinued these sometime in the 90s after a very short run. (due to cost of production) They are popular among offshore and northern anglers and I always thought they'd do good on bass. I picked up several of the size 11 right before production ended, and I can't get myself to even opening the boxes. Made using the African Abachi wood, the lure bodies were first dipped in conductive ink and then electroplated with stainless steel before painting and clear coating. VMC still uses the Abachi wood in making the Magnum, but I doubt we'll ever see the INOX lures return.
  10. Anyone checked out these lakes since we've had all these downpours?
  11. Although I know McGee Creek from top to bottom, thanks to Chuck, I'd like to hook up with him just for the company. He's an awesome guide.
  12. Every little bit helps. Try using a peg stop in front of any exposed knot. I use them on spinnerbait/chatterbaits and cranks.
  13. Nature's canvas. It's 3:09 in the morning here and I'm really excited. Refuge HQs has given the dam on this lake a clean bill and in a couple of hours I'm loading one of the yaks for a little paddle. Taking a couple of rods, but I think it will mostly be a paddle. Need my fix! More rain expected after 2 pm, but only 20%.
  14. Top right, the white one, is that an Excalibur? Fat Free Shad?
  15. I carry a couple of reusable, refrigerant gel cold packs inside a small, soft side cooler. Hold one against your neck and it cools you down pronto.
  16. That's what I replace my stock hooks with. I still have a few left and once those are gone I'm looking into trying the ST-41. Anyone have experience with these?
  17. Now this is the best reply yet!
  18. UPDATE: I talked with Det Mike Luna this afternoon, and although he could not give any information about the individual under investigation, he did give information about the equipment (or lack of) used by Trace Richardson during the time of the accident. Time of accident: Before dawn Kayak make: Lifetime Tamarack Lights: None Flag: None PFD: None Note: An empty box for a head lamp was found in Trace's truck, but it wasn't on his body when it was found. My final thoughts: We share the waters with larger boats. Our kayaks sit much lower to the water and as such, we should take every precaution that allows us to be seen by other boats. I will talk about the importance of wearing a PFD until I'm blue in the face. Use a flag and rear nav light on the stern of your kayak. BE SEEN!
  19. Calling you out Lance. Well, at least the dog is wearing his PFD.
  20. Louis Levi Oakes, the last Mohawk Code Talker, was called to the "Last Roll Call" this past Tuesday. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II. He was 94. (Photo: Stars and Stripes)
  21. Yes, they had a 1 year old daughter and his wife is pregnant. Police arrested a man who they believe is responsible, buffing out damage to his boat in his driveway. No other details available at this time.
