  1. No one ever thinks of the First Responders.
  2. Here's a good one for you. This guy was showing off his new kayak, look how he replied to my comment about the PFDs. I wish he cared as much about his young son as he does his new kayak.
  3. 244 years ago, the Continental Congress authorized the enlistment of expert riflemen.
  4. I jumped on the red hook wagon when it was all the rage in the 90s. As for myself, I didn't see any change in strikes. I've since given most of red hooks away.
  5. Top water (Pop Max) was on at first light this A.M. This one came home for a future Gyotaku print.
  6. Deja vu. I've mentioned this to folks before and they look at me like I'm crazy. The "pinging" from your transducer CAN spook fish. Once I've learned the structure in an area and have committed it to memory or paper, the sonar goes off.
  7. Lucky Craft Gunfish "Knockoff"
  8. You'll want a PFD made for "high back" seats. It will be more comfortable either way.
  9. https://www.austinkayak.com/Harmony-Replacement-Side-Handles-for-Ride-115-amp-135-2-pack/ACK12233P.html Congrats on the yak. My advice for a paddle; get the best paddle you can afford. Good article on choosing right paddle length. https://payneoutdoors.com/long-kayak-paddle-need/ Remember to wear your PFD.
  10. No weed guard to contend with when using a BOSS hub. This rig has treated me good for a few years now. Slips through the mats easier than a traditional jig.
  11. Hang in there folks, one day you'll be retired and you can wave at the working stiffs on your way to the lake. (Actually, I was on my way home from a little night fishing when I was waving.) Think I'll take a little nap now...life is good.
  12. "It won't be long," I thought this morning as I was leaving the lake and I saw a few mats forming. One of my favorite punch rigs is a skirted BOSS hub pegged against a T-rigged Gene Larew 6" Hoo Daddy. Do you have a favorite?
  13. First light over the wildlife refuge and one of my favorite lakes.
  14. Standing beside my house this morning. Life is good.
  15. Jigs https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12403-jig-fishing-questions/
  16. You know I purchased the Bass Mafia Bait Coffin 3700 Deep box this past winter, well, it's not working for me in the kayak. It's too heavy, too big, and I'm always worried I'll drop it when reaching behind the seat. I'll continue to use it to carry extra baits in the truck, but I'm going back to the Plano 3700 and use your tip with the bands.
  17. Another kayak angler has lost his life. An overturned kayak belonging to Timothy Clauge, 39, of Nottingham, NH, was found Friday on Watchic Lake, Maine. His body was recovered yesterday in 29 feet of water. He was not wearing a PFD. Wear a PFD folks, if not for yourself, wear it for the others who care about you.
  18. Been giving that St.Croix legend rod a real hard look.
  19. Just tracked into customs, this one took a week to leave Japan. (sigh of relief) These are the same as the CR 10s sold in the states.
  20. Was searching the forums for glass rods when this popped up, WOW! I had one of those, but I can't remember if I loaned it to my brother or one of my boys. I need to find it and take it back, it was a good rod. Lamiglas should bring that one back. BTW, good job on the handle.
  21. Megabass Big Z, a shallow running, 1oz balsa crank. (bottom right) I think it got me the heaviest fish last year on the Arkansas border.
  22. I bagged many a squirrel when I was young boy in Illinois. My late grandfather gave me his Marlin Model 1897 and I used that to bring squirrel home to my dad so he could have it with his milk gravy. (His favorite meal.) I have to say that old rifle played a part in me breezing through Army Rifle Qualification. That old rifle is still sitting in a closet at the old homestead. Enjoying this thread.
  23. Those guys have been around since man invented the hook, @Flatrock. I'll sometimes test a guy as I'm launching on a lake I know real well, and ask him where I should go to catch some fish. If he's on the up and up, I've been known to hand him some of my choice Jelly Worms or one of my hand tied jigs (Sieberts) for him to try. If they ignore me or feed me BS, I'll talk smack under my breath as I head out. @BigAngus752 is right on about the lipless. They are not just a fall bait and can be used all year. When it slows down after the spawn and I find them on the graph sitting around deep or shallow structure, I'll sometimes tie one on and yo-yo that thing all around where they're sitting. Landed a few choice bass doing that. (Background: Rising Sun over the Wildlife Refuge)
  24. Next time you fry up a batch let me know, I'll guard the pan for you.
