Multi-purpose frogging rod
X2 I love my dobyns fury 735. I bought it for froggin but I've used it for lots of things. The soft tip makes it more versatile. If I'm gonna beat a bank and carry one rod that's the one I carry.

What froggin rod to get
I know you said 7 ft, but if you don't mind the extra 3in in length, the dobyns 735 is a great frog rod. I have it in the fury line and love it. It's got enough backbone to really set the hook with a frog, but has a soft enough tip that you can get a lot of distance on the cast.

Whopper Plopper 110 is here!
First time using quote so forgive me if I screw it up lol. But what color 110 are your smallies liking? It seems smallies are a little more color oriented than largemouth at times. I just ordered a 110 in "I know it" color. Hoping to catch a smallie on it!

Frog Colors
People seem to swear by different color frogs everywhere. I think it has to do with both forage color and a fish's ability to see different colors in varying water clarity and light. If someone is just getting into frog fishing I recommend they get 3, a black, white, and a more natural pearl or yellowish belly. Try them all one will likely work great for you. And get one popping frog. I think I do better on it personally. I think it's because fish don't have to see it as well, they are investigating the pop sound. And don't be afraid to throw where frogs don't always stay. Especially with a popping frog, I get bites out in the middle of the lake on it sometimes. Frogs do mostly stay around the edge near cover, but a lot of that's because they know fish will eat them if they go for a joy swim in the middle!

Getting strike mid-retrieve
Glad your getting on some fish! They're always some great people on here to help out! If your having a little luck on topwater you might try a pad crasher or popping pad crasher too. I've had some really good luck on them fishing ponds similar to what you describe. And your already using braid. I probably throw the popping one most but they are both good.

need a crankin rod?
I haven't used those personally but I researched rods a lot before I bought my furys. I don't think you can go wrong with the Lightning shock rods. They get recommended a lot and they feel great in hand. When trying to stay under a budget, always check the good deal thread on the tackle forum. It has saved me a ton!

Bandit Lures
Bandits always seemed like a good solid crankbait to me. They aren't as flashy as some of the newer companies, but most of that flashy stuff is meant to catch us fishermen anyways. It does catch us at times though, myself included, but I'll always have some bandits in the box. If you need a certain color, they probably have it!

Daiwa viento to tatula ct
That's been my only hesitation kp! That tatula SV should be really nice. Tatula, SV, and TWS, doesn't seem like you can go wrong there! It will probably just depend on how bad of a fishing itch I get between now and when the SV comes out. I have other setups to get by, just kinda wanting something new.

Daiwa viento to tatula ct
Hi guys, been outta the game for a while. Want a new baitcaster. I'd like to stick with daiwa since it's what I'm used too. And stay under 200. Viento was my last good reel. I still love the way it casts, especially with lighter stuff. It had magforce and a free floating spool. How would that compare to a tatula ct that doesn't have a free floating spool but does have magforce z? Thanks!
