Daiwa Exceler LT or BG
I should have phrased that better haha! I just thought maybe some people might be selecting this reel over others because you could use it in saltwater. It really sounds like the BG is just the way to go no matter where your fishing.

Daiwa Exceler LT or BG
I'm looking for help choosing between a Daiwa exceler LT 2500 and a Daiwa BG 2000. It will be going on a dobyns 702SF. I only fish freshwater and this rig to dropshot bass. I had planned on the exceler lt but you always hear so many good things about the Daiwa BGs. I've never held a BG so I don't know what they're like. Is it mainly a saltwater reel like it's advertised? Have any of y'all used both? I have a buddy trying to talk me into a lews so that's probably the only other brand I'd consider. I'm not even sure what they'd have to compare. I've been a Daiwa guy for a while, it's usually with baitcasters though. I don't know as much about spinning reels. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Forum Update!
I'm not really a computer whiz, so I don't know exactly what all I just read...but hey that big L looks a lot better than that silhouette guy that used to be my picture ??? Seriously though it sounds like you're really working hard to keep us up with the times...makes the forum look a lot better. ?

Ultra shallow/subsurface crankbait
I like the h20 outdoors and bandit footloose wakebaits. If you want a bigger profile the 6th sense wakebait would be a good one.

New Zoom Frogs
Has anyone tried these yet lol? I wouldn't hate on anything without trying it first. I have not used them yet so I don't know about durability, but they claim it's a more elastic material that will stretch more. If these were elaztech people would be excited. They'd probably never tear. Now these likely won't be as good as elaztech but who knows, they may be more durable than we think...just sayin...I am planning on ordering some to try myself! But then again I think I'm one of those suckers that always falls for the latest and greatest tackle! ???

Siebert Jigs
The differences are in the mostly in the hook and head type. He offers brush, arky, dock rocker, and football heads. The different series he offers like gridiron and dredge series for ex, have different hook types. Siebert jigs are praised highly on here. I haven't used any yet but I'm planning on ordering some soon!

FC friend or foe?
From someone who has never used mono. Putting aside the visibility argument, if less belly is the main benefit, could you run flouro with a mono leader? This would of course assume the knot failures are at the lure and not at the leader connection. But it seems you could still get the increased sensitivity and perhaps not have as many knot failures this way. Just curious if you've tried it?

Reel like the Lews carbon fire?
I think your really gonna like that reel. I recently got a tatula ct and I love it!

New to fishing
Welcome to the forum! Line weight is a give and take kinda deal. The higher the poundage the more abrasion resistant it is, but you lose casting distance and lure action as you go up. So you have to find a balance between good enough casting distance and strong enough to fish where you want to fish. For that setup with a spincast, I would recommend 10-12 lb Berkeley Trilene XL or McCoy mean green. Both of these are very supple so they should cast well out of a spincast. The McCoy is probably a little more abrasion resistant.

Should I be using fluorocarbon leaders for anything other than a Carolina rig?
I believe that is a Yucatan Knot.

You guys have done it to me I'm trying again
Fishnkamp, I am glad you explained that. That was exactly my experience when I first got my tatula ct and I set it up wrong. I can absolutely see why someone would hate these reels if they set them up wrong. I set mine up wrong when I first got it and it was a backlashing machine...but after I set it up like you mentioned it casts great!

Help Plan My Attack!!!
If it has weeds growing to within 6in of the surface, a wake bait could be good too. Some of them will get down just enough to tick the tops of those weeds...but as others said start out with the frog. Good luck!

Refurbished dobyns rods, fury and savvy models
I haven't bought a refurb from them personally but plan on buying my next fury that way. Dobyns' customer service is touted pretty highly so I have no worries. I'm sure their refurbished rods are fully inspected and in great shape or they wouldn't sell them.

You guys have done it to me I'm trying again
I don't think this works as well with tatulas. I think it's why some people don't like them as much. Fishnkamp knows what he's talking about on setting these up. I run my tatula ct with a little spool play too. It's not much at all but it's there. Mine just didn't cast near as well without some spool play. It seemed to wanna backlash more until I loosened the spool tension a bit. I know that's counterintuitive but that was my experience. I run mine with a little play and the mag breaks usually around 8-10 and have no problems. I think if you set it up like Fishnkamp says you will be happy. Good luck!

Lures to break my slump
You might just need to throw something new. I recently fished a spot that is usually killer for spinnerbaits and shallow cranks. Couldn't get hit on either the other day. Also tried a chatter bait and some plastics...but still nothing. Water was stained with about 1-1.5ft of visibility. Threw a swimjig on and these bass just lost their minds. They hit that thing so hard it's all I've been thinking about ever since. I had never until that day thrown a swimjig. So if the fish get tight lipped it may be time to just throw something completely new at them.

Rookie Fishing Family!
As others have said the fish you see will probably be tough to catch. If your already catching a bunch of 2-3 lbers, you might just need to keep fishing. The pros catch lots of those too they just weigh in the 5 biggest ones. I will recommend another lure to try though if your new and have young kids. A double bladed h&h spinnerbait. They are cheap and work very good in ponds. It's usually the first lure I buy when I take a kid fishing. They are small enough to catch high numbers of fish but I have seen several 5+ lb fish caught on those too so they'll catch big ones as well. While you're honing your skills, keep watching videos and asking questions. This is a great site and people here are very helpful. I've learned a lot here myself. And enjoy every day you get to go with your family...your kids will look back and enjoy the memories just like you have with your dad. Welcome aboard and good luck fishing!

Mepps Lures?
What he said! I like the 1/4 oz one with a dressed treble, #3 blade I think it is. Whatever spinner color you prefer. I've used the silver mostly and done well. In small streams and ponds they are tough to beat!

Question on the Tekel Sprinker Frog
I don't know for sure whether the tail is soft or not as I haven't held one personally, but I did see somewhere a picture of a pack of replacement tails. I believe it was on teckel lures Facebook page. Supposed to be released mid July I believe.

What was your first confidence bait?
Inline spinner for me. Used the mepps a lot but my favorite was a Blue Fox Super Vibrax foxtail in rainbow trout color 1/4 oz. Oh man that thing would slay! Similar to mepps but easier to fish a little deeper. Good thread! Reminds me that I have to order a couple for the nephews! They are pond fishing addicts right now and mepps is their go to lure. It'll be fun to see them try something new!

Any other asthmatics?
Florida Mike, have they ever checked you for cystic fibrosis? You were probably born before it was a standard newborn test. I am 31 now and was diagnosed at birth but a lot of adults around my age weren't. You've probably already been tested but thought I'd ask jic. Sorry to the op if I hijacked their thread. To the op: I hope your out of hospital and doing well now. I can't comment on drugs specific to asthma but I know how it feels to be in the hospital and struggle to breathe. I'm currently in the hospital for a tune up now.

The Road To The Super Bowl 2018
As much as the patriots improved its hard to imagine them not winning the super bowl, BUT, the Giants improved too, and they seem to have a recipe for nocking off New England in Super Bowls. And the Falcons still have a cornerback that was injured for the super bowl and has a good history of slowing down cooks so the Falcons could surprise again too if they can get after Brady a little. Lots of big names on new teams this year. Should make for an exciting year for nfl fans! Go cowboys lol!

Anyone tried the new Teckel USA SPRINKER FROG?
I was about to ask the same question. I watched that video last night. Really cool looking lure!

What line do I need
I usually use 15 lb big game mono for general all around line and have been pretty happy with it. That includes frogging in thinner weed mats and edges of thicker stuff. Just gotta be good on the hook set froggin with mono. Make sure you reel the slack out before you set the hook. And check your line for scrapes and nicks periodically and after each fish.
