Need a new Senko rod - Considering a St Croix Mojo Bass medium-fast 7' spinning rod. Your thought?
Thanks. I know Mojo Bass use to have Technique specific writing on them, but it seems now they really just list them as a 7'1" MH or whatever and you should know the application based on that. Typically most of my rods are either a 7'1" Medium Fast Spinning Rod or a 7'1" MH Casting Rod. I have tried not to buy a specific rod on one end or the other but I have been yearning to get a Ultra Light St. Croix panfish rod for Crappie Fishing. I did see the BPS sale. I was planning on going to buy a cheap (~$20) kids rod from Walmart and donating that to BPS in exchange for the $10-30 off depending on what rod I get. Last year I bought a Bass-X Casting rod paired with a Shimano Curado DC. I thought about getting a Mojo Bass this year and either another Curado DC (fantastic reel, but pricey!) or getting a SLX and putting that on the Bass-X. I'll probably make the Bass-X a crankbait rod and use the Mojo Bass for a bit more sensitive applications (Top Water, Plastics). I also have a Reign I bought on sale for the St. Croix Customer Appreciation day that is a casting reel. I hate the Daiwa CC80 that came on that. I need to take the Lews baitcasting reel my dad bought me or something else to put on that. But I've been using that as a Frogging rod. My 2-3 Bass-X I have that are spinning rods are paired to a Shimano Sahara 2500 reel. Pretty happy with those, but I have grown to like Baitcasters a lot more over the past 2 years as I have started buying nicer reels and getting better at fine tuning the drag/brake.

Lake Olathe looked pretty open on the North West side. Looked like some ice still out on the South East side Also spotted a dead bass on the bank when I was checking water temp. ☹️

New St Croix rod
Anyone have a educated guess when we’ll see them at the local Cabelas/BPS? A little more than I’ve spent on a rod but it’d be nice to hold one before I drop $130ish on a Mojo Bass or Premier.

I’ll be at Olathe tomorrow may have to toss my rod in the car just in case. ?

Your usual fishing spot. How far a drive is it?
My boat is stored about 40 minutes from home which is about the closest state reservoir. I have a 10 foot kayak in my garage. There’s three or four small lakes within 10 miles of my house

2021 Bass Fishing Goals and Resolutions
Fish more. I'm guilty of not taking enough time off work throughout the year then using it all around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Weekends can sometimes be tough due to social obligations and needing to get certain things done around the house. I need to take advantage of more summer nights, even if it means just taking a single rod to the local community lake for an hour or two. I need to also take advantage of using my PTO more in my favor. I struggled with LMB this past year. Caught quite a few crappie, cats, and white bass so I really want to hammer LMB this Spring/Summer/Fall. I also want to try to catch a Walleye/Sauger on my own. Never targeted them specifically.

Haven't posted in a while. Think the last time I got out was October unfortunately. Was hoping to check some community holes this weekend to see if they are thawed out. I use to always drive over the Kansas river on the way home from work to judge how frozen the water is this time of year but haven't been driving to work due to COVID.

What's the main differences between the Premier and the Mojo Bass? I have about 3 Bass-X and I'm pretty happy with them but after holding a Mojo Bass I'm ashamed I didn't spend the extra $20-30 for the Mojo Bass. So much lighter! Was planning on picking up a Mojo Bass this spring but noticed that the Premier is a bit cheaper. Guess I need to head to the store and get my hands on both to compare. Trying to decide if I should get a Spinning and Casting rod or just a Casting rod this Spring. Boat electronics are calling my name too.

Bass Pro Spring Sale
Thanks! My dad got the flyer in the mail today but mine hasn't came. Wanted to see what all the sales were. What's an appropriate amount of my bank account that can be drained for this sale? Asking for my fiancée. ?

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Hey guys, Took tomorrow off to do some fishing. I've been pretty busy with a basement remodel so I've only been out about once since December (mid-march) and it was more testing out a few boat upgrades than fishing. Currently trying to figure out a plan of a attack tomorrow and hoping to catch a few. Any recommendations on which lake and what fish I should target? I'm located in Lenexa and hoping to go somewhere within a hour of home. Hilsdale - Closest major lake. Seems like people have mentioned the bite is pretty slow and I'd mostly be targeting Crappie. Gardner - A bit closer than Hillsdale but since I have the day off I don't mind traveling a little bit. How is the bass bite here lately? Are they starting to come out shallow? Clinton - Only fished here once on a trip with Brian. Seems like the fishing report is fair for whites and crappie. Pomona - Never been. Fishing report indicates Crappie and White Bass bite is decent but slow LMB bite. Wolf Creek - Never been. A bit further than I'd like to drive but fishing report looks good. I'm hoping to get out once more over the weekend and I'll probably go to Gardner or Hilsdale that time.

Ah cool. Thanks for your service. My buddy just started at Shawnee. Was gonna go out to Hillsdale today but heard Clinton was pretty rough, figured Hillsdale would be the same. Had a pretty consistent bite at Gardner.

Was gonna ask, do I need a permit for Smithville with a KS registered boat? I dont know that I’ll make it that way this year but I want to possibly hit the crappie spawn there next year. Bite was good at Gardner tonight! Caught 3 in a little over 2 hours.

Yeah that’s my point. I took the online course over 4 years ago and back then it was the same, only need it if born after 84. I never paid the fee though because I never drove a boat in MO. I think everyone should take the course to know the basic boating fundamentals just hate the idea that someone born in 85 has to pay a fee for something and someone born in 84 doesn't. Now if they did you need it if you are under 25 years old, I’d totally be on board with that.

What’s the deal with boating in MO as a non resident. I assume I can take my KS boat there just would need to register in MO if I did most of my fishing there? Also I think I’d need a boating license. It seens you always have to be born before 84. You’d think they’d increase the year because I’ll be 30 next year but someone 34 doesnt need it. Sigh.

I may have to get a Wyco permit again next year. I bought one two years ago when I got my first boat. $50 boat permit and like $30 fishing permit. Then I had boat troubles and never actually got a good days fishing in there.

Kinda winged today. Invited my dad late last night and he agreed to come. Ended up taking him to Hillsdale because it was his first time on my new boat so I wanted to show him what the 60hp Merc could do. By the time we got his permit and out to the lake it was 10:00am. Figured my odds were better crappie fishing and I dont have much crappie gear. Used some Bink’s pro series spoons and was able to net a couple crappie in 2 hours. Unfortunately my dad never caught anything but he said he had a good time. This was the first time I’ve fished with him in probably 15 years!

Anybody going to be out tomorrow? I took the day off due to a car show tomorrow night and may do some fishing in the morning. Was thinking Hillsdale or Gardner but open to other suggestions/input.

Got my new boat out on the water this weekend. No luck on a quick visit to Olathe Saturday. Spent 3 hours out at Gardner on Sunday morning and we were able to get 3 fish on the boat in about 3 hours. A largemouth, and tiny channel cat for me and a largemouth for my buddy.

Well truth is I've been looking for a few weeks now pretty constantly. Good boats priced decent are going fast. Ended up calling some guy off craigslist and asking him if he wanted to go to Hillsdale tonight and this little dingy followed me home... Doesnt necessarily fit every criteria to a T but it's a nice upgrade for not a whole lot of money and should keep me satisfied for a few years.
