  1. Well thats a bummer. I went down there scouting for waterfowl towards the end of the season January/Feb. Seemed like a cool place that may not be super popular. Guess I shoulda just took off today and did my holiday fishing If I wake up early enough I’ll join my buddy at Hillsdale. If not I may wire up my livescope but I haven't decided where I want to mount my blackbox. Going to help the in-laws in Atchison Sunday, maybe I’ll take a pole. Monday looks like a wash.
  2. Anyone ever fished Miami SFL? Thinking of trekking down there to avoid some of the holiday chaos. ...Also considering just bring my boat home and wiring up my Livescope. Lol Buddy of mine wants to shore fish Hillsdale by the bridge.
  3. Watched the video, was able to figure it out. Never fished that lake but have wanted to. Maybe I will change that this year.
  4. I don't believe Olathe has smallmouth. They have wipers though I've only caught crappie, bluegill, and lmb there.
  5. Agreed. That's a pretty stout Rainbow as well. Be a pleasant surprise to pull one of those up while bass fishing.
  6. Well after 5 or so hours of fishing (total this year), I caught my first bass of the year. This guy was super shallow and hit my crappie jig. Not the species I was targeting but I’ll take it.
  7. Warden checked us at a small boat ramp on North end of Hillsdale Sunday. I keep mine in a small tackle bag that I put on my boat, kayak or take shore fishing. There were quite a few folks fishing so when he approached first person I walked back to car and grabbed mine in case he gave us gripes for not having it on us.
  8. $10 1 day $27.50 5 day $52.50 year Can buy at Cabelas, Bass Pro, Walmart, Academy, or online at https://www.kshuntfishcamp.com/ https://ksoutdoors.com/Fishing/Fishing-Application-and-Fees
  9. Welp... after dancing around PTO days trying to avoid 15+mph winds, I've got tomorrow off. Kind of rough cold front past few days. Leaning towards Hillsdale as it's closest to where my boat is stored and I'd like to run the engine a bit and make sure everything is good as this will be my first time out on the boat this year. Do I chase Crappie or White Bass? Best to head up towards the feeder creeks or toss some jigs down at deeper structure? Thought we were getting close to Crappie spawn but I assume the past few days has got the fish scattered back. Figured a drop-off close to shallow areas might not be a bad place to start.
  10. Took the new rod out today. 7’ St. Croix Mojo Bass Medium Fast Shimano Curado K 200HG 7.4:1
  11. Thats where I went. I was more at the point than in the cove. Was throwing a 6th Sense Provoke 106x in Chrome Threadfin. Never caught on a Jerkbait before, so I was kind of assuming I needed to play with the speed of my pauses and and how hard I twitched. I figured I was twitching too hard and fishing too fast, so tried to slow it down since water is kinda cold.
  12. Tossed a jerkbait in a couple spots from the shore at Lenexa today. Didn’t stay long but glad I got out the weather was gorgeous. Only took the 1 rod and lure. Still pretty new to jerkbait so not sure if I was twiching too hard, not pausing enough, etc. Guy on a kayak said he caught a dink. Saw about 4 others fishing. Water temp was pretty warm. Guessing high 40’s low 50’s.
  13. My '06 Lowe. Bought it a little under 2 years ago. Been very happy with it. Upgraded from a '04 Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 with a 60hp Mercury 2 stroke.
  14. I fish a texas rigged senko pretty often and definitely caught a few cats on that even though I was targetting LMB. Caught a few crappie/bluegill on a crankbait. white bass/wipers and crappie both enjoy spoons.
  15. Broke off a lot more than I remembered. It was stored on ceiling above garage door. I guess lure caught the door and game over. Snipped it before the eyelet with some dike pliers and heated it up and glued a tip on from a $4.99 BPS rod tip repair kit. Went from 7’ to 6’6”
  16. Not daily but as much as I can. M&P Shield .40 is typically my go-to.
  17. Been so darn busy lately. Went down to my boat storage to finish rigging up my UHD 93 (needed a wire to fish the transducer wire last time). Boat should be good to go. Also have a little surprise coming for myself soon. Thought about taking my pole with me and fishing the shore at Hillsdale for a hour or two. Didn't end up doing it but hoping to get the boat out to knock the dust off on Saturday. Looking at the weather for next week, think I may take 4/02 off and get some fishing in. I'm having withdrawals but been too busy. What are the water temps at various lakes that you guys are hitting. I assume we are starting to see pre-spawn patterns or if not, very close to it. I typically fish for crappie in April then switch to Bass after the crappie spawn.
  18. Looks super easy. Does shortening the rod change the action much? I assume the rod will feel heavier action and be less sensitive?
  19. Recommendations for someone/somewhere to replace a rod tip? Have a rod thats been sitting in corner of my garage for about a year with a broke tip. It’s a pflueger president combo from Cabelas I got a year or so after college when I got back into fishing. It’s about 8 years old so a little sedimental but obviously don’t want to put more than $20 into a rod/reel combo I paid $50 for. Closer to JOCO preferred. Heard mondo tackle had a guy but they’ve since closed.
  20. My haul for the week. Hit the Spring Classic. Garmin echomap UHD 93 sv St. Croix Mojo Bass 7’1” MF Shimano Curado 200HG 7.4:1 Also go a couple SK redeye and some tackle organizers. May go back for a bit more tackle and some braid.
  21. Never know if you don’t go! I sometimes wake up later than I want but still try to get out for a bit anyway.
  22. My general rule of thumb, peak of the day during the cool season (late fall, winter, early spring) Early morning or evening during peak of summer. That being said, anytime is better than never. Can’t catch them from the couch.
  23. Went back to grab a rod tonight. Said they sold out in 30 minutes. ?
  24. I got in line at 8:30 this morning. About 30 people in front of me and another 15-20 behind me by the time they opened the doors at 9. I figured it was a mixture of ammo grabbers and Spring Classic doorbusters. Much to my surprised, every person in front of me (minus maybe 2) walked straight to the marine electronics counter. Even mix of people getting 2, getting 1 and a Livescope, or getting 1). For a second I was a little worried everyone in front of me would get 2 and they'd run out. The employees said they had 75, I don't imagine they lasted past 10am. Could've bought it online but I had a Giftcard and it's 3 miles down the road from me. I was home by about 9:15. I'll be upgrading my console graph from a echomap 73 plus SV to a echomap 93 UHD SV. Keeping the echomap 93 plus SV up front, since I only use it for 2d sonar and it will still work with Livescope if I ever bite the bullet.
  25. Most of my baitcasters are 7’ or 7’1” MHF. I think I have at least one that is MF. Most of my spinning rods are 7’ or 7’1” MF. I think one is a ML. Am I really missing out by not buying a shorter MF, 7’ MM, or longer MH/H? I’ve only been into bass fishing for about 5-6 years so each a year I tend to buy a more expensive rod so I always tell myself to get a middle ground size and power so it can work with all applications. Last year I bought a 7’1” MH St. Croix Bass-X with a Shimano Curado 200HG. What a fantastic setup but I realize now the Mojo Bass is a lot nicer rod for an extra $20-30. I thought about buying a SLX and putting it on the Bass-X since it will match the blue. Then moving the Curado to the Mojo Bass.
