Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Dicks had buy 2 get 1 free in any combinations of their DTs, Rippin Raps, and Shad Raps. Also, they had $5 special (or 50% off) on some of their LiveTarget lures. Always wanted to try the Crappie pattern to mix it up. Tough to resist at that price point.

Easiest lure for a 5 year old to cast out and retrieve?
Respectfully, focus more on the experience than overwhelming yourself with all of the possibilities. Trust me, you'll enjoy the time more with your kiddo. Treble hooks with a 5-year old just opens up to so many adversarial outcomes -especially on a kayak. It's tougher than you think to cast from that position too - so keep that in mind. Beetlespins and that 4" Dinger should create some fun memories......no need to invite Murphy on board

BAROMETRIC PRESSURE
This is my experience and my story so I'm sticking to it. What happened on Saturday went kinda like this: all week your area experienced a stable pattern of high barometric pressure and the bass were at their equilibrium and all is good right well, Saturday rolls around and this front comes in all of a sudden that drastically changes from high to low barometric pressure. This precise change causes a discomfort by forcing them off their equilibrium and causes their feeding to go into neutral this is the where the "my experience" part kicks in. If I fish a day or two before that sudden change, in this case Thursday or Friday, there is a golden opportunity and window to get very active bass in anticipation for that change. Fish foresee these barometric changes way sooner than we do! walleye fishermen are the best anglers to talk to about barometric pressure When I use to fish for saugeyes from the bank, I would time my outings for those "windows" and learned that bass were very similar. Hope that sheds some light

Easiest lure for a 5 year old to cast out and retrieve?
These guys are good! #1 vote -Beetlespin (great for multi-species, especially slab crappies) #2 vote - Johnson Silver Minnow. Bottom-line, IMO, avoid trebles with kiddos..........you're just askin' for it My exact favorite color body too. I like a 1/8 oz gold blade too. Always have one of each when I go to a new body of water

Tackle for Cheap
I really want to try out those centipede worms this winter. We get a ton of red annelids in our local ponds and I think a red centipede on a shroom Head or drop shot could go to work

Tackle for Cheap
Soft Plastics - Zoom and YUM Hard Lures - Strike King and Bomber Lures come to mind. Excellent value for the quality and these brands will catch you fish guaranteed.

So I got a gopro..
That's just smart. Never knew about that feature. Thanks for the tip bro

So I got a gopro..
Tip if you're using a head strap while mounting your GoPro. Learned this the hard way. Move the swivel so that the camera is pointed down at a 45 degree angle when filming. Several weeks ago, I had my GoPro running live when I hooked into my PB Crappie. My angle was pointed 0 degrees and I captured the mountains in the background during the entire capture. At least I have a solid memory only when it comes to fishing :/

Hair jig storage
Helps a ton! Good explanation.

Hair jig storage
I've never fished a hair jig before. Are they effective for Largemouths too? I've always asscociated them with Smallies

Night Fishing
I love night fishing, mostly because I fish HIGHLY-pressured metro ponds, work a day job, and have a two-year old and expecting a 2nd this September. I have no choice but to fish weekday nights, these days. For #'s - Tied (4" Black Power Worm, Black and Silver Sassy Shad, White 3" Grub on Chartreuse Road Runner) For Size - Black Jitterbug in summer - early Fall. Winter - Spring it has to be a 1/4 oz white chatterbait w/ fluke jr trailer (White Ice) I do this year round in AZ.

27" #7.5 Channel Cat from two nights ago. Fresh chicken livers w/ a couple spays of Gulp!Alive! Shad scent because I'm just crazy like that. Like catfishing when I want a break from beating the banks for bass.

Pompadour kills it!
Our notes are very comparative. For example, Jan - Feb here in Phx metro, all my bass bit either on the initial fall from a SK bitsy jig w/ Netbait Baby Paca chunk OR Chatterbait w/ fluke trailer or RES Lipless Crank. Tight lines out there

Sunglasses for giant heads.
I'm frugal when it comes to specs and would rather spend $$$ on thousands of lures and soft plastics that I'll probably never use So, I have a big head too and these $40 Strike King S11 Okeechobee sunglasses w/ gray lens have been killer in for these bright AZ days. I'm very happy with this pair and have money left over to put towards a new Daiwa DX Swimbait Heavy Rod. Plus, I'm clumsy as #^*( on the water so I would shed man tears if I misplaced, dropped, donated to murphy, etc. a $300 pair of sunglasses. Do I look like Robocop with my SK S11s? You betcha! But I'm not trying to impress nobody when I'm on the playground. Just my angle. Good luck!

Pompadour kills it!
@Brent Heermans Nice work! I have a black w/ yellow head Pomp. Jr. that I've been itching to try out! Phoenix Fishing Supplies has a nice variety on their shelves and I love supporting local mom and pop stores. Anyways, add a Black Jitterbug to your arsenal as well (especially late summer and fall). I also night fish a lot in Phoenix and enjoy that nocturnal bite. Just wait until you get a channel cat to take your topwater sometime........that's a trip! If the topwater bite dies down, I've been skunk less with grubs on underspins and recently discovered that Black Power Worms have been getting commitments locally.

Brewer Spider Head + Power Worm =Weedless?
Which hook would you use for a 4" Power Worm curly tail? Excellent observation. The back of the slider head is flat, but I'll try to keep it flush against the head next time. I understand your point here.

Brewer Spider Head + Power Worm =Weedless?
I need to practice some more and your explanation was well taken. I'll try that next time and explains why it was so lop-sided originally. Thank you.

Brewer Spider Head + Power Worm =Weedless?
Looking back at the photo wonder if the worm needs to be straighter?

Brewer Spider Head + Power Worm =Weedless?
Those Pro series are slightly larger hooks right? 3/0 I believe. Tonight was the first time using the spider slider and it rocked! I'll try the lighter size to see if that helps. Thanks

Brewer Spider Head + Power Worm =Weedless?
I'm catching a lot of weeds when I Texas rig a 4.5" Black Power worm on an 1/8 ounce Brewer Spider Head (2/0). Any adjustments I can make while still using a finesse ribbontail? Good news is this set up caught 4 bass for my first stab at this technique last night. Spoiler alert: I have hardly any experience Texas rigging so any troubleshooting is appreciated.

Drop shot from shore
I like to drop shot from shore and use 18-24" leader (from cylindrical weight to hook). For rocky rip rap areas, use the LIGHTEST weights possible. That helps a ton. This year, all I catch are channel cats off the drop shot :/ good luck!

Kayak micro power pole
YakAttack makes a model, with the purchase of an extension, to use a stakeout pole in depths up to 12'! https://www.yakattack.us/parknpole-link/ Pricey. My buddy in Texas swears by his YakAttack pole and I'm personally getting tired of messing with an anchor myself. Now that's a tedious process and an art to position yourself accurately with wind in the equation. Food for thought
