Trout reels
I’m an avid trout fisherman. I troll from my kayak for them to bank fish using small jigs to creek fish. Over the years, these have been my favorite trout reels Budget - Pflueger President 25 series Mid- Level- Pflueger Supreme 25 or 30 series. I love this reel and eventually making all of my spinning reels a Supreme. Personally, to catch nice trout, you do not need an expensive reel, like the Cadillac of all spinning reels, the Shimano Stradic C i4. For $100 I think you will be very happy with a Supreme. For $50, The President is hard to beat. Good luck!

I typically sight fish for them in shallow water so I’m typically 12”-18” down from the bobber. Like Crappie, they look up so I’d side with being higher in the water column as opposed to being too deep. The exciting way to catch them in shallow water is by using a fly rod. Small hopper (foam flying ant, damselfly, grasshopper pattern, stimulator) with a trailer tied 12” from the shank of the hopper pattern’ s hook with a size 18 prince nymph, damselfly nymph, or copper John. When you twitch the floating hopper they come up and inspect If they don’t strike top water, they settle on the trailing fly and now your stimulator is a strike indicator. It’s perfect for summers when larger terrestrials are prolific Now when I’m kayaking for panfish and I can locate schools of them in deeper water off drop offs and around brush piles especially ...... I like using a drop shot with a 2’ leader, light weight, loop knot with a bright colored 1/16 oz jig with a 1” Gulp Minnow or a bright chartreuse (Dirty water) or earthworm colored (clear water) 2” Gulp Floating Worm (wacky style). I tend to inadvertently catch a lot of catfish too with that set up which is always a bonus.

Question about The Anatomy of a Catfish’s Mouth
Does anybody know what the two ball-shaped organs are deep inside of this channel catfish’s mouth are?

Nice gills! My favorite panfish soft plastic is an 1” Gulp Minnow on a small size 8 mosquito hook or trout magnet jig head under a bobber. Deadly!!!!

Summer Urban Bass Fishing AZ
I live in metro Phoenix and I can’t stress enough the importance of two facets that will improve your success: 1) learn to finesse. Ned rigs, small tubes, drop-shots, wacky rigs, 3” grubs, and weightless weedless Zoom trick and finesse worms make up my panic box. 2) what @WRB said. I catch the biggest bass and get my numbers typically at night finally, my personal philosophy. March the hatch. These fish get pounded by so much pressure, especially by local bank-beating bass tournaments. Our ponds are relatively small and have fragile ecosystems so it really bugs me that they exist. Thanks to social media, word gets out fast and honey holes get exploited all to stroke egos and $50 jackpots. I’ll stop, but I despise these practices at small urban ponds. back to my point, match the hatch. I’m talking to the size, profile, and colors. Threadfin Shad, baby bass, bluegills, and crawdads make up the local forage here. during the summer, when the weeds surface, use the smallest Livetarget hollow bodied weedless bluegill lure available and go to town at night. You often get a lot of strikes. A black jitterbug can be dynamite during the late summer if you can fish weedlines and pause it for several seconds. Best of luck out there and stay cool! I have cat fishing on my mind lately so I’ve been pre-occupied trying to get my GF over that 10# mark. We’ve been close this spring. That was at Papago

Early season channel cats
I had a long debate with a pond owner the other day regarding channel cats. He claims you need the lightest weight possible on a Carolina Rig and hide the hook entirely. Let them run for 60 seconds before setting the hook. I said I’ve caught cats for years with an exposed circle hook and heavy weights. I let them run for 5 seconds before a fast reel and set. after our talk, I reflected and have missed a lot of fish by them taking short runs and dropping the bait. Never getting a second chance. Think he’s right, Blue?

I love wacky rigging
I love it too just not fishing with weedless wacky hooks. I missed so many bass yesterday. 3/0 Berkley Fusion with the line guard. This was even after I changed from the brand with the wire guard and still no success. Regular wacky hooks, hardly miss em. Weedless ones..... forget it? any tips on hook setting?

Flipping Stuff
I started flipping for the first time last year. Later in the summer I had to use 1 oz tungsten weights so you might want to have some for backup too. Also, the Pit Boss was my go-to flipping bait. Strongly recommend!

AZ desert Channel Cats from my kayak. Live minnows, then went to jigging Gulp Alive Minnows when we ran out. Gf and I also landed crappie, small largemouths, and chunky bluegills mixed in. Multi-species day!

Crappie secrets
You beat me to it Fish an 1/8 oz Beetlespin with gold blade and black/chartreuse body during the spawn. Zoom it by submerged trees and bushes. Parallel to sandy or muddy banks. I hear they hit em’ hard like a bass would! I even hear that you can also catch bass too with that season-specific technique! ?
