  1. https://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Odyssey-Spider-Tying-Vise/dp/B0784V1YNX this is the vice i use now. It is a big upgrade over the AA Style vice i used to own
  2. You can either go with 22-26 gauge floral wire or pick up a bobbin and 210 denier danville flatwax nylon. Either way will work. Personally i prefer the thread and reserve wiretying for replacing rubber bands on skirts. I know some guys also use heavy braided line.
  3. Glad i’m not the only one who thought this.
  4. Is that really the only difference.
  5. Im looking at picking up a lews this weekend from dicks because of the sales. Whats the difference between the lfs and slp. This is going on my jerkbait/ top water/ all around river smallie rod. Just didnt know what the difference in the two reels was.
  6. My wife has a cake studio on the other side of the building so im sure i would have food to provide quite often. Before she got her space i tried running the idea by her of opening a joint space and calling it Noble’s Cake and Bait. For some reason she did not feel prospective brides would find that very appetizing. Something about the idea of minnow water wafting in to meld in with her swiss marengue butter cream just did not mesh in her eyes.
  7. Thanks for the tips, definitely a couple things i didnt think of. No way i could do it currently, but definitely something i want to start working towards. I dont want to wake up someday and realize i have the time to do it and not be prepared

Really liked your chatterbait bluebasser. Unfortunately, i managed to snag it on the 5th cast and had to break it off. Pretty sure i coulda pulled it out but i was using a reel with a pretty wimpy drag. Really bummed me out as i saw it drawing some seerious northern action in the little stream that i kill them in. Those colors and that vibration i think would get them going in the next month.Thats the only thing ive been able to try. I’ll post pics as i get a chance to use everything. Hopefully i dont lose anymore of these gems
  10. Live in Oregon, grew up in Amboy
  11. Thanks, that sounds in line with the set up i generally like to use for hula grubs and creatures
  12. I’ve been going back and forth on the idea of starting a small bait and tackle shop. I feel the location has excellent potential as it is right next to the dam(withing 50yds, parking lot right there) and any given time of the day there are atleast 2 to 3 people present for fishing the eddie on that side plus the people on the other side fishing, kayak fishing etc. I’d like to offer a viable bait and tackle option as there is not one present w/in 25 min, but i dont even know where to start in figuring out the viability of this endevor. Is there anyone on here with experience in doing something like that. Id appreciate and tips anyone can offer from their experience.
  13. Love the craw with a nailweight idea, im going to have to try that this summer when the flow slows down and they are keying on craws. I’ve fished live craws weightless when the water gets low for years but never really considered giving your method a try. What size hook you use?
  14. Ccx is a decent line. I use it and havent had issues with it. I would suggest getting berkley trilene xl in 12lb test. I know its pretty generic stuff, but since you aren’t that comfortable in your skill level yet, this line handles nicely in my experience. 12lb is a good multi tactic poundage. You are going to be limited in abrasion resistance and you stand a chance of breaking something off in cover, but as you get more experienced you will start to figure out what you need for the style you like to fish and can buy equipment accordingly. Not everyone has the budget or desire to own equipment for every technique. My grandpa was the best fisherman i’ve ever known and all he ever fished with were zebco 33’s and old 6’fiberglass rods. He’s probably rolling over in his grave with some of the money ive spent on this obsession, lol. If you dont have a spinning rod currently, i would suggest picking one up in med power/ fast action as your next purchase.
  15. I understand the OP’s desire to throw it on a baitcaster. I also understand the people that say a spinning rod is much easier for this light of a lure, they are correct in that. If he wants to throw it on a baitcater though, it is possible. Really it comes down to his rod action and line choice. As has been stated previously, he needs to use a lighter action rod that loads better and is rated for the weight of lure he wants to use. He also needs to down size his line to something more manageable like a good braid or mono in 8-12 lb test. Personally even if u could cast that lure on 15lb ccx, the stiffness and diameter would kill the action/ maximum depth that bait would run.
  16. How long have you been having this issue? Multiple seasons or just this spring/ colder water period. I think you are right that the bight should not go dead going from 2” to 3” baits. Do you change your technique/pace when switching baits?
  17. How often/long do you throw the larger baits before giving up and going back to smaller baits? Bigger baits=less bites/higher quality per bite (i.e.bigger fish). Its something you have to stick with. understand if you are tossing a 4” jerk bait or 3/8 oz swimjig or spinnerbait, theres a chance you may get skunked or only get one fish that day. You are much more likely to catch bigger fish though. as a side note, i fish with “panfish” type baits quite often. My go tos for light lures like that are a 6’ shimano clarus ml/xf with 15/4 braid and a 7ft uglystick lite med action with 6 or 8lb mono or copoly. Never have felt like i was wearing out my gear, even when dealing with 5 and 6lb northern on occasion. What do you consider panfish gear.
  18. You can get throm from barlows tackle
  19. If you are getting hung up with ned type rigs/ jigs, you either need to go lighter or bulk up. This is something i struggle with quite a bit in my home stream. Try spinnerbaits and jerkbaits right now also. Those have been dynamite for me this time of year. They absolutely love a chartreuse/white spinnerbait burned accross the current this time of year.
  20. Ive fished quarry ponds like u are talking about. I’ve had good luck with jerk baits in natural colors. If its overcast, its pretty hard to beat plack and blue. Flukes, senkos, wacky rigged finesse worms, all work great for plastics. I’ve also had a surprising amount of luck with a 1/4 oz chrome rattle trap on a sunny day. I would start aggressive with your spinnerbait burned near the surface just to see how active they are, then go to the #5 shad rap next. If they arent active that day or you are getting a bunch of followers but no takers, thats when i would slow down and work the more finessie type stuff. No since wasting a buch of time slowly working a brush hog if they are one the spinnerbait or crank that day.
  21. So this. This epitimizes everything that embodies the beauty of creating your own lures. The passion that comes through in this post is absolutely inspiring.
  22. I’ve had really good success in the summer texas riging on a 3/0 ewg with a 1/8 bullet sinker in the little stream i fish. The key is to keep it moving just enough to constantly tick the rocks. Too slow and you hang up, too fast and you lose contact. Just right and you get hammered. The only gripe i have with a t-rig hula grub is they dont hold up very long when the fish are hitten em.
  23. I have plenty of success just fishing the tail. I got tired of catching carp on them though so i dont fish em that much. I too pull off the pinchers. If nothing else, it saves my fingers some later on. Try a 1/8 oz lead head jig deadsticked on the bottom.
