  1. I saw some guys and they were using a piece of a white towel on what looked to be spinner baits. They were burning them as fast as they could and said the teeth would get caught in the towel. I only saw them catch one and did not see how they removed the fish from the towel/bait, which would be my concern.
  2. I used to fish a small lake and there was an old timer that would always catch some good ones when others would only be catching dinks. He told me he drops 5 or 6 rocks on the same drop-off everytime he goes out. He then said he goes out 75-100 times a year and has been doing it for over 20 years. So maybe another idea to add some structure that will last over time.
  3. If you are going to be throwing cranks, I'd suggest my favorite tool ... A lure retriever I couldn't count how many cranks or any other lure I have saved from being lost to the lake. I like the one with the chains as sometimes they will grab a hook and make it easier to get back. I connect mine to a mason's line reel as I needed more line. I have seen people use old baitcasters and retractable dog leashes too
  4. Welcome to the site, Brian. You could try to use a bobber and a wacky rigged worm. It can be cast out and left to sit or pulled in slowly. Live bait under a bobber is always a good choice too
  5. I'm limited to fishing a few hours weekend mornings so I dont want to spend a bunch of time running all over the lake I'll fish down the bank throwing various topwaters to any cover and then I'll come back down that same stretch flipping some type of jig/texas rig to the same cover. Some days I'll get that first blow up on the topwater and I cant put it down the rest of the morning
  6. I have a Cleveland Browns colored rod and a few Brown and Orange jigs to match. This way I can be disappointed on the water too
  7. The rage tail shad is a thumper for sure, just work it like a buzzbait. It has the most action/noise on a buzz type frog/toad. Great around cover and in the rain as well. The tails are not the most durable but considering the action it's worth the trade off. Just my opinion
  8. I posted a link on the sale/deal thread about some raingear on sale, might be able to save a few bucks.
  9. Raingear on sale https://www.wingsupply.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=frabil
  10. I was pond fishing and gut hooked a smaller bass on a line thru swimbait. Since I dont eat fish, I left it for the turtles to eat. When I went back the next day there was a half eaten bass and feathers everywhere. After I searched around a little more I found a dead bird of prey( my guess is a hawk) and my treble hook was caught in the beak and neck. I'm guessing all the feathers were from the last moments of that birds life struggling to remove my hook that killed 2 animals. Now, if I cant get the hook out. I'll keep the fish.
  11. I have been a marshal a few times and it is definitely worth it. I got to marshal for G-Man when they were at Douglas lake day 2. He got into a late day flurry and was close to making the cut. So I got to hang out with him, his wife and his dog Myrick at the boat ramp for about an hour to see if he made the cut. We threw a football around and were just BS-ing about life. He ended up making the cut, but just barely. One of the best days related to fishing ever. On the other hand watching Terry Scroggins at the pre tourney meeting, on the water and at the weigh ins; he was an absolute jerk.
  12. Props to everyone that has been able to walk away from idiots on the water. I learned my lesson the hard way because I am that guy. The guy that wasnt taking any more of this BS. The guy that picked up a DT 10 and bounced it off the shiny new ranger that cut in front of me and started fishing all the way in the back of a cove. The guy that threatened to fight these 2 inconsiderate jerks, the guy that motored right in front of them and harassed them until they left. Then I was the guy at the boat ramp that had all 4 tires slashed on the truck and 5 more on the trailer.( they cut up the spare too) Did these 2 idiots get their Karma? I'll never know. I know I got mine for the way that I behaved.
  13. I thought I'd stop by and say Hello. I live in TN near Norris Lake and am originally from NE Ohio. I love fishing topwater and am always tinkering with baits.
