  1. Is that a newer or older model? Much of a weight difference?
  2. Whopper Plopper. Watched a guy on youtube several years ago have tremendous luck on them. Got all excited and bought several in a couple different sizes. I haven't thrown the large one yet and I've only caught a few on the medium sized one. And those few took a lot of casts.
  3. For a dedicated jerkbait rod? Mostly throwing the Megabass 110's and the Jr's. The only reason I'm asking is because I saw a video where a guy was mentioning a 50 sized reel was perfect. I thought a 70 would be pretty close to that but a fraction bigger. Once again, I'm NO expert. Just a guy that loves to fish.
  4. Would that be like a 80 sized reel? That’s the biggest problem I’m having, which is determining the size of reel on these JDM models. I know I mentioned looking for a 70 sized reel but I’m not an expert on smaller sized reels. I thought 70 would be a good size to put on this rod. No clue what the best size would be.
  5. Thanks everyone. This is exactly why I held off. I REALLY wanted to buy a reel no later than yesterday as Omnia had a 20% deal going on. I'm glad I held off.
  6. Is that the K? I saw the K version on Omnia but didn't pull the trigger. I'm new to this "JDM stuff" and I saw a previous comment from a different thread that mentioned it was dumb to buy Shimano/Daiwa/etc gear in America as you can get cheaper/better gear across the pond. IDK, I'm new to this and it's the first time I've bought a high end pole. Just want to put a nice reel on her. 😀 Do you know which model for the 70 size? Sorry, I'm a newb. I just don't know what to look for since they use different terms/numbers.
  7. I just purchased a dedicated jerkbait rod, Megabass Oneten Special. I was hoping to put a 70 sized reel on it but Omnia doesn’t have many options unless I want to spend $750. If I want to stay married I need to find some other options. 😀 In my search, I learned about JDM which seems pretty intriguing. So, my question: What are some good JDM options for around the 70 spool size? Once again it will go on a dedicated jerkbait rod. Price tag hopefully $500 or under. Thanks!
  8. I didn't even know this was an option. That works PERFECT. I have two now, one for me and one for a son. Or both boys can run them if I have them both out, they think it's pretty cool. They can go on their own little adventure with them and 30 years from now they can watch the videos, that is priceless. One is the Hero Black 4 and the other is the Black 5 which I've only had for a couple of weeks. The 5 is a HUGE upgrade, and when I say huge I mean HUGE. Like a previous member said, if you put the waterproof case on the 4 the sound is TERRIBLE. But the 5 is already waterproof so you only have one case to mess with and it doesn't cut down on the sound. You also get the screen on the back of the camera which I love. I can't remember the actually picture quality but I'm sure there's a big upgrade as well.
  9. HAHA, you know what I mean!!!!!!!!
  10. I'm NO expert but I like to fish nights when it's hot and sunny. My thinking is that the bass are deeper away from the heat and sun. But when night comes they start feeding in more shallower water. That's MY NON-EXPERT thinking. Someone chime in please if I'm way off, slightly off, etc.
  11. I've mostly used black frogs but the more I think about it they probably don't put out as much commotion as some other baits. I'm definitely going to try a black buzzbait. Last year I used a jig with some decent success. Might even try a big 10 inch worm this year. My son and I just started fishing the Ned Rig and have had good success at night so far. More numbers than size but still some decent ones. When the water warms up I'll start throwing the big topwaters. Can't wait!!
  12. Three questions regarding night fishing: Your favorite bait for numbers? Your favorite bait for large bass? (depending on location this can be 3 or more pounds) When do you start fishing at night? A certain water temp? Thanks!
  13. Well maybe I'll have to buy one of these and try it. Crazy how expensive this sport is getting. Not sure I'll want to throw it if there's potentially Pike in the area as I'm sure a leader will mess everything up on it.
  14. Great question, thanks for asking. I grew up river fishing, small rivers to be exact with the occasional trip to the Mississippi. My favorite fish was a Smallmouth. Fast forward to now and I fish mostly for Largemouths in small lakes mostly because they are close. Probably three years ago I took my son fishing for anything that bit and we caught a couple pretty decent bass. That's all it took. It's full of weeds so my first purchase was a Mojo Bass frog pole and started chucking some Spros. Oh man talk about exciting.
  15. Thanks for the reply. I have both sizes but have only used the smaller one. I'll try them more when the water warms up.
  16. We have several of these and they seem to work great. Serious question: What can a $20 popper do that a $7 KVD Splash can't do????? Thanks
  17. So what's the secret to fishing this dumb expensive lure? Sometimes on a steady retrieve it doesn't even plop. I've only tried it a couple times, both on like 14 or so pound mono. Would braid help since it floats? I guess I could throw it on my frog rod. Braid? Rod tip real high? How are you guys fishing this thing? Also steady retrieve or a pause and jerk type action? Probably both huh? Thanks!
  18. Was he above it or below the dam? Moving water is so powerful, never underestimate it.
  19. Totally depends on the lure. For example frog fishing. It's one of the most exciting ways to fish but also the most frustrating. Some people say set the hook right away while others say to wait a second or two or wait until you feel the fish. Takes an enormous amount of discipline/patience to wait after seeing a huge blowup. Man it's fun!!!!! Can't wait to start throwing frogs.
  20. Took my 11 yr old boy Crappie fishing last Friday. We were hammering them (from the shore). Then a jackwad comes in with his boat within casting distance and starts fishing. Not only that, but then he starts PLAYING HIS RADIO. I didn't say a word, it was very hard to do, VERY. Probably the only reason I held back is because of my son.
  21. Next time I go out maybe I'll lengthen the leader (or whatever you call it). Last night it was only about 6-8 inches.
  22. Sorry to hear your troubles. Sometimes there's truth to the old saying "when it rains it pours." Back in high school, I backed over every single rod plus my one and only tackle box with my bad a$$ station wagon! lol
  23. Did you fish the rat at night? Thanks
  24. I tried a drop shot for the first time ever last night. Only fished it a little but caught a dink on a 4 inch little finesse worm. Then I got a snag and as time was limited I went to something else. Anyone else fish a drop shot from the shore? Due to the angle of the line, are we more prone to snags on a rocky bottom? I'm obviously new to drop shotting but I love the concept and am excited to use it more. Any tips are welcomed! Thanks
  25. This doesn't take any of the sensitivity out of the rod does it? If you put seal on it??
