  1. Been fishing outta Occoquan River right off the Potomac. The action has been unbelievable until the coldfront late-night. Did manage a few males today all who had bloody mouths. A few other fish that have been boated include 2 nice perch, 2 baby striped bass and a 15lb snakehead. I did hook into a monster female that snapped my line at the boat. Felt like a log, put up an amazing fight. Her mouth was the closest to a bucket mouth I have ever seen. I would guess she was easily in the double digits. I have and will be on the hunt for her again.
  2. Got out on occoquan today. Fish down there are killing spinner baits. Boated close to 20 keepers, lost something real big maybe a cat or snakehead. Hopefully the reservoir will be like this tomorrow.
  3. grass, are we talking visbable or fully submerged. I cant seem to locate any submerged, just got electronics and slowly comprehending what Im looking at. Ive been hitting the visable patches with no luck. Im gonna get out tomorrow and see what I can do. Unfortunatly its spring break for fcps, Bull Run has been swamped with high school crew kids. Quanjig whn are you usually out, Id love to meet you and pick your brain for some knowledge sometime when your not/done fishing. Thanks for all the tips btw
  4. Got my best of the year cranking laydowns. The new KVD 1.5 and 2.5 have been shining for me, they are my new search bait.
  5. Quan that would be awesome. I got a map a couple years back and it just sits in my tackle bag. Just let me know when and where we could meet and I will make it happen. I did get out today, launched from bull run. Caught 3 males about 1.5 each in 6-8ft drop off by kinchloe fields on spinner slow rolled. Water is alot more muddy up above the splits and quite warm at 64-66.
  6. Quanjig care to be a guide for a day??
  7. Today was decent, got a few 2lbers in the boat. Stayed to watch the tourney weight in, only a couple of boats had limits and quite a few teams gave up and left early. One tram killed them with 27.?? Lbs and big fish which I wanna say went 6.45. Only 2 or 3 teams with 17+lbs, overall decent day for such crazy weather.
  8. Caught 4 today, biggest went 4lbs 4oz all caught dragging plastics in 8-20ft of water on PW side. Water temp was pretty steady at 60.2f with about 3ft visibility. Chatted with a few tourney guys who are feeling the same way. Last tx 26lb bags, this weekend lucky to get 20lbs. Now I just need to find someone who knows the rez well enough to fish tourneys and that throws something besides crankbaits. Thanks guys for all help.
  9. Thanks Sam yeah the dogwoods are blooming. Talked to a couple locals that fish the tourney here (occ rez) they said they were catching bedding bass last weekend. Looked all over for beds, only found 2 empty. I will have to search the flats, do you think the cold would send them to structure/cover in 30ft of water?
  10. With all this crazy weather these past few weeks its been quite a bit of work to find a pattern. Seems like the fish are lost and not in their normal staging areas. Last week they were moving in to bed up, this week few and far between. Water temps dropped almost 10f in less than 48hrs at the beggining of the week, and winds have been crazy until today. Went out at 7am and stayed till 2pm, one fish caught. Tried everything, cranking 2-15ft, spinner, jig, t-rigged flukes and numerous other plastics and the only fish was caught on a shakey head. I don't understand is going on
  11. Few more hours. Got 3 of 6 baitcasters cleaned and lubed and then 2 spinning reels. Gonna be on the water by 7am. Good luck everyone.
  12. Catfish are everywhere right now at occ res. Caught another 4-5lber today. With water temp at 72 up in the coves, 70 main lake and the new moon last night bass should be starting the spawn. We ended up with 7 LMB all around 3lbs flippin and pitchin worms and jigs. My good ol' eagle ff died on me today after 6 years of good use. Now lost in a huge market for a new model
  13. Got a nice 5.5lber at occoquan res today. Along with a couple others upto 3lbs, one of which jaws was split in half. Also got a monster cat pushing 6lbs on a kvd 1.5
  14. Bend the hooks out a tad. When you get a strike pause before setting the hook. Then hold on!!
  15. Leave them in a car for a week prior to use. Works for me, mine stay in the truck unless theyre on the boat.
  16. No tourney, just a couple guys out there I guess practicing, they kept talking about "wish we could catch fish like this during the tournements". And they where on fully decked out jons with 9.9s and cooler livewells.
  17. Why not just squeeze the water out each cast. I actually catch more with it subsurface and c-rigged than top water.
  18. The best times to fish the tidal rivers is to wait for outgoing tide. With all the weeeds growing so heavy, as the tide falls the fish come to the edges to follow bait out of the weeds. use some electronics to stay right outside of the weed line and toss you lure right inside and slowly work back to the boat. On another note, went to fountain head yesterday and had 4 over 3lbs and 1 over 4lbs, all came from plastic worked deep 18-25ft(shaky heads, jig, and texas rig fluke). Water was just below 90f from bull run to the dam. Saw some tourney guys swimming to retreat from the heat.
  19. all along the park banks have decent laydowns. down by the batting cages decent drop about 20 yards of shore from 3-4' down to 16-20'. then you could crig off the fishing pier down where the crew boats are stored, theres nice grass line and quickly drops into the channel.
  20. Wal mart in the auotmotive section. They have cutloop carpet for $13 a 12x8 roll. Get the adhesive from HomeDepot or Lowes. Its good looking carpet in a couple different colors made to replace auto carpet. Doesnt look like it will eat hooks like the looped carpet from HD and its not plastic like outdoor green and is super soft, its definatly going in my v-hull this fall/winter.
  21. Occoquan River is where its at right now. Been slaying them all last month and this month, atleast 7 keepers a day and lots of 12-15"ers. Jigs, Flukes, Spinners, and lots on plastics. And when you get too hot just jump in swim around and then get back to fishing. Good Luck to ya'
  22. Loricariidae is the largest family of catfish (Order Siluriformes), with almost 700 species and new species being described each year. Loricariids originate from fresh water habitats of Costa Rica, Panama, and tropical and subtropical South America. These fish are noted for the bony plates covering their bodies and their suckermouths. Several genera are sold as "plecos", notably the suckermouth catfish, Hypostomus plecostomus, and are popular as aquarium fish. I know theyll eat up some algae in garden ponds and aquariums.
  23. I know its fishable, seen lots of boats out there. But would also like more info. Never been myself, my grandfather fished it about 10 years ago for cats but doesnt remember where they launched. I would love to make a road trip and hit up the Chick one day and the rez the next.
  24. First off, LMB wont bite you dono gt be scurd. Second go get you 4 double willow white spinners, 2- 3/8oz one w/big silver and small gold and one w/big gold and small silver and get 2- 1/2oz again one w/big small gold and one w/big gold and small silver. Try different retrieves till you a bite, then repeat what yout will catch were doing when you got that bite. Its summer now and most bass are schooled up on drop offs and large structure. Contact with structure will catch the fish.
  25. So we headed out about noon today from occoquan and headed downstream to belmont marina. Picked up 6 fish all 2-4lbs right on the edge of the weeds in the first 200yrds we worked, about 30mins. Then headed back upsteam working the southern shoreline with the boat in 8-10ft water, nailed a bunch of dinks and one keeper 20incher. headed across to fairfax yacht club and burned them up on the spinners ticking the tops of the water celery patches. Started raining a little so we started working our way back and came across a school of huge gar, started throwing flukes and immediatly hooked up on a huge 5-6ft beast. Managed to get it to the boat and it snapped the line. Switched to a spinner and hooked up on both these pigs within 50yds of each other 5-7 and 5-9. And then this monster 8lbr decided he wanted whiplash.
