  1. I got a few over 5lbs. heres a 6 and 7
  2. bought a bulk pack earlier this year, broke 6 or so on hook sets. they are now in a special tackle box for back seat fishers. I say stick to whats tried and proven.
  3. No certificates given because of some BS no verified scale/ruler. I have pics and all paper work and dgif reasoning at my house in New Kent. I will retrive next visit.
  4. That rapala scale is junk it has to have battery replace every outing. You can weight a fish change the battery and weight again and its different, no good. Boga grip wait till fish calms and you got your weight everytime within an oz. More power to you if you think its a good scale.
  5. heres another from yesterday. 6lbs9oz
  6. hahahaha yall are very funny. Notice how all but one pic is taken with fish practically touching my torso, not at arms length like every other photo you see posted on here. Fish were weighted on 2 different scales, one digital rapala and one boga. The boga was calibrated with weights and is dead on with Lake Fredericks table scale. I know what was caught and the weights of each, if you dont believe thats cool no skin off my back. Got 4 citations last year out of Burke, 2 of which fish where under 24". 1 Citation out of frederick that was 9lbs2oz. Hate all you want!!! Good Day Tight Lines
  7. Here are just some from this year, a buddy of mine has alot more on his camera. These were all weighed on a mechanical scale that was calibrated at 2,4,6,8 lbs +-<1oz. The big girl 6/2 took a human size pee during pictures. Most came off plastics but the 5/1 which took a 3/8oz white wedge in about 8 foot of water. Pics 1-5 = 4lb14oz,5lb1oz,5lb11oz,6lb2oz,6lb6oz
  8. burke lake has plenty 6+lbs, got 2 in the past week. lake frederick is really good, pretty sure its nothing but florida strain. briery creek, chickohominy, newport news res, staunton, fairfax, brittle. Theres lots, check out vadgif they give all info on each lake and river, some boatable some not.
  9. Most planes have coat closets that you can store your equipment in. I just brought back ovwer $1k in gear from florida to virginia as a carry-on with air tran. Otherwise as long as its in an TSA approved carrier you can check it. Check out the Plano Rod Tube they work great for 3 7ft rods, you just keep your reels in your carry-on, tackle has to be checked
  10. Went to Ft myers beach last week and saw these advertised on the back of the local paper. Looked everywhere for these including BOMBERS website and nothing. Anybody heard of or have any experiance with these. They look promising and the guy at one of the tackle shops there said they are deadly in the groves on the snook and snapper, seems they would intice some fattys!!
  11. Yozuri hybrid right now on all except my cranks. Soon to get some fireline braid for deeper c-rigs, frogs, and jigs
  12. I know Brittle is 24 hours I think Fredrick is as well. Good Walleye over at Brittle. Fredrick would be awesome at night being its so clear, and there are some real fattys in there
  13. There have been lots of issues, this year worse than previous, with the tourney anglers. They seem to get on a high horse and think they are better than everybody else. Cut infront of renters to fish. They take horrible care of the fish they catch. Run up and down these skinnie little waters like its the ocean. Then they take up the entire boat launch cause they is no orginization. My solution is everytime theres an issue call the main office of NVRPA and let them know. If theres enough complaints something will be done. Remember there are rules on the water just like the road, passing needs to be done with caution and respect. Its not hard to throttle down while passing, the bass arent going to disapear in 1 min it takes to slow and pass. On a side note I do have a friend who has flattened trailer tires on the potomac anglers. It would suck if I ticked someone off so bad they went and flattened every tire on every trailer in the lot. Tight lines and lots o' respect
  14. well let see. you got lake anna, SML, james river, the chick res and river as well as briery creek which might be 2hrs away. all real good locations with healthy fish
  15. Well long story short I was at Fountainhead Res. this morning/afternoon, caught 2 keepers about 2 lbs each one on 1/2oz chart. spinner the other on a junebug curl-tail worm. The thing is we watch watched the weight in for the tourney, and almost every fish we saw released look very stressed ie shedding of slime coat , swimming on their sides, gasping for air, staying close to shore. We saw 2 biggins floating belly up still breathing. Does this sound normal? Every fish I have kept longer than 1 hr has swam for its life when put back in water. Could it be the Livewells that the fish were kept in are inadequate? Or just mistreatment? What do your fish do?
  16. positive it was 1.5 lbs the bait hes attacked to is almost 4" long . Both the redear and bluegill are all in the sunfish family hence the genius name lepomis. Just an fyi fish from the same genius can spawn with each other. Ive been breeding fish for about 15 years personally, and many spieces do it in nature as well. Check out this web page for any non believers. its scientifically proven the will hybridize!! http://www.genetics.org/cgi/reprint/108/1/237.pdf
  17. Blue gill and sunfish are the same. Both are Lepomis speices, they all have the spot on their face/ear its called an opercular flap. And actually its probably a hybrid sunfish as red ears during spawning, the margin of the male's gill cover flap turns bright red. This guys has no red lots of blue.
  18. Went out Sunday morning to Burke Lake hoping for a good day of fishing and ended up only boating a couple keepers and 1 huge 1.5lbs bluegill. 2 of 3 LMB caught on a bomber FFS deep diver in about 12ft water just at the shade line, same thing this monster blue gill decided it would take a whack at!! The other hawg was caught on a ike shaky head with berkly power bait 7" shakeyhead worm in red shad. It hit so light but held so tight it felt like I was hung between rock, I pop the line a couple time to try and free the jig head and she takes off towards deep water. I set the hook and up she came leaping 2-3 feet out of water. 5 massive leaps later and the hook decides it wants to be straightened out an off she goes. Well fast forward to this beautiful tuesday afternoon, I get off work at 5pm and the sky is clear a couple of lingering clouds and 92f, drive 6 miles down the road and the sky becomes black. Well there goes fishing, Im not risking it. I get home and look at the radar and its supposed to pass over quick but be very heavy down pours and lots of lightning. So I mess with my fish tanks and wait it out to see if i can get out before its pitch black and cold. By 730pm the storm had passed and I was itching to go throw line. So off I went with 2 bags o worms(7" shakeyheads, 10" powerworm both in red shad)and a package of ike shakey heads(1/4oz black tungsten). Parked in the main lot and walked down to the boat launch and tossed my shakeyhead in a few times and almost every cast nice 1.5lbers, totaled out six at the boat launch. Decided I take a tosses of the end of the boat dock but threw a 10" powerworm on anticipating for a biggin and not 4 turns of the reel and wham, drag starts screaming. I give a good tug to turn the fish torwards me and the fight was on I faught this fish for nearly 15min(with drag set tight enough to cut into skin if pulled)she made at least 10 runs at deep water. This by far is the largest bass Ive seen pulled out of this lake in 10 years. I wish I had brought a scale and better camera. Note the boards in this pic are 2x6. For reference I took pic next to my shoe which is size 10.5!! Also check out the monster blue gill 14" long and 2" thick at the head, a mouth like SMB.
  19. I would go for the BPS finesse and shimano saros 2500 I have both 7'M for shakey heads and 7"MH for dropshots.
  20. look at your rod specs it will say the recomended line size. The deeper you fish the stiffer the line(less strech)ie topwater-4' use 12lb big game, 4'-10' use 12lb yozuri hybrid, 10'-16' use 10lb berkley 100%flouro, anything deeper 40lb vicious braid. Just what I like you may be different.
  21. Well being your fishing in such depth, the water under the thermocline will usually be consistantly in the 50's. The red mouth/lips could be from a few different things, picking stuff up off the bottom ie.investigating, mouth gaping ie.two males too close to each other will fight cold or not, also nest building can cause this bass are constantly rubbing on the botom creating that perfect place. If someone can get a good picture Ill take it to work and have a coworker look and try to diagnose. We run a aquarium in VA.
  22. Any one know the cost of the revo s side plate, spool and brake assembly? Would like to try this on my 7'2"cumara-sx jigging combo!! But I really want the sx spool on the winch, it should be easier casting lighter cranks with the lighter spool, correct?
  23. Is it possible to interchange spools or swap spools on the revo sx and the revo winch? What about gearing, can that be swapped out? Id love to see the SX in 5:1, especially for cranking differnet weighted lipless cranks to match the hatch without having to take the sideplate off and having to fiddle around with magnets. The gunmetel looks great and matches any rod where is the silvery blue of the which is kinda tacky only really matches the Croix LTB.
  24. one place to definatly take into consideration is Briery Creek. There are some huge hawgs in there.
  25. The manufacture usually puts very thin copper washers on either side of the main gear in between it and the bearings to align the gears. Adding more grease can actually make the reel preform worse!!
