  1. I like the way the larger handles feel but I dont see anything in the Pfleuger or Daiwa BG lines that have this. Any ultra light reels that may have it? Thanks.
  2. Anyone know who makes the cabelas worm kit? Are these rebranded senkos? Cabela's Action Tail™ 51-Piece Stick Bait Kit https://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS-ACTION-TAIL-STICK-BAIT-KIT-PC/1937634.uts
  3. I think you have to measure the value of the rod/reel in terms of how it FEELS to YOU. Like someone said above. Its like a luxury car vs a cheap car. Both get you from A to B, but the luxury car FEELS better to drive. The thing is, the way rods/reels FEEL are subjective. You have to try them out and decide for yourself, which is really frustrating because you dont want to waste $ hunting for the right setup, or hassling with returns & unspooling reels is a total pain. Again, it comes down to how it FEELS for you. I love my $15 GX2 rod for the price. I also love my $300 St Croix surf rod. You got to figure out what works for you. You may find a $30 rod actually feels better than a $150 rod, if you can hit that balance of reel weight, line rating, and lure weight etc. Trust me, you know it when you FEEL it. You just got to find it. Personally, paying $200+ for recreational freshwater bass rod to me is completely insane. I dont value the supposed FEEL at that price point. It's gets stupid and companies stand ready to milk hard earned $ from folks that are prepared to pay those nonsense prices wanting the fake news top end gear. Let me know what rod you settle on? I'm looking for the best bang for your buck $50 bass rod at the moment. Tried the MH 6'6 Ugly Stik Elite in store. Felt like a broomstick. Did not like it. Still need to find the M or UL version and try it out.
  4. Cool thanks. Yeah I meant to say I'm fishing from shore, so its a camping chair with dead stick for the little guy. Way less dead stick action than from a boat. So people have had success dead sticking senkos under a bobber from shore? I have a bunch of YUM Dingers. Never tried them under a bobber though. I figured the Maxscent additive would help for deadsticking vs a plain plastic.
  5. As the title says! Something like the Hit Worm. Will dangling one of these under a bobber work for bass? Was thinking about hooking this up for the kids who cannot cast all day (and it gets old real fast changing nightcrawlers 24/7 because the kids are missing the hits!). It would be great if I could wacky o ring one of these under a bobber, cast out, and let the kids have fun. But with no action, will anything take it? Thanks.
  6. Walmart. You need to go in store.
  7. I recently bought a bunch of GX2s. They are pretty great for bait and wait for trout. Excellent value at $15 for rod and reel. Anyone else handle the Ugly Stik Elite?
  8. I went to dicks. They only had the 6’6” MH spinning version, 1/4 - 3/4oz in store. I got to say, the thing felt like a broomstick. I was not impressed. I still have high hopes for the lighter versions of the 6’6 though. I really want to get one of these because of their sub $40 price tag. Just curius if anyone had had any further thoughts on the ugly stik elites.
  9. Alan hawk does fantastic reviews on reels. Checkout his website. He breaks them down and goes into great detail with tons of pics. He said avoid Kastking. I see he recommends the daiwa BG as his #1 freshwater reel.
  10. Is the President good for braid?
  11. What the diffs between the president B and X models?
  12. I know the Pflueger President reels go for around ~$40. Are there any other reels of similar quality or better that sell for around that same price? Also, whats the diffs between the Pflueger President 20B & 20X? Thanks.
  13. Berkley Big Game Trilene 8lb. I've had GREAT success with that line for pretty much everything. BTW - I fished yesterday. No snap offs and 3 trout landed :) The line was casting pretty far out there. I was happy. Perhaps I'll give it a couple of more goes and if no snap offs again, then perhaps I should stick to it. Time will tell. As for bass fishing. I ended up hooking another guys rig. He left his rod in the water and disappeared. I pulled in the whole rig through the weeds. The 10lb braid + 40lb mono leader worked great haha. No lure loss there. I like this setup. Only issue Im having with that rig now are wind knots. Im familiar with braid and know how to fish it (manually close bail etc). Never have issues with my Stradic. The Shimano Nexaves I had dont seem to be too great with braid. I had to cut off twice. A reel upgrade in may be in my future.
  14. How do you guys store your Senkos while not being used? In the bag or can I just leave it connected to the rod. I was wondering if the plastic gets affected at all by being exposed to air. I wouldnt leave it in the sun, but what about in my garage? Or do you guys just put them back in the bag?
  15. The rods are 6'6" and rated 0.25oz - 0.75oz. They seem to load well with the sinkers. It just the line thats a problem. I'll step up my lb test to 12lb as stated above. I think that would be a good compromise. Thanks.
  16. Spinning. I have 6 trout rods. I fish with a 3/4oz egg sinker, hook and powerbait eggs. The egg sinker runs along the main line so therefore I cant use braid because of abrasion (I have to use mono). I switch these rods to lures/bass rods from time to time depending on who's with me (kids, friends etc). I was hoping to find the right lb mono that can work for both. If I cant really cast decently with thicker mono, then I will dedicate them to be used as trout bait rods. But I have to up the lb on these rods (which sucks, because I bought a roll of 8lb already at the recommendation of the forum!). If I do dedicate these to trout bait rods, what lb mono would you use for hurling 0.75oz sinkers (I've snapped one already, 8lb mono is too little). As for my two bass rods, I have 10lb Power Pro. I already lost a lure using the 8lb mono as a leader..... I've now switched over to a 40lb mono leader (just because I have a huge roll of 40lb at home). I will test it out to see how it casts and how it works (and lets hope I dont get too snagged, breaking line with a UL setup using this lb test will be interesting haha!). But I think it will work. So yeah, to summarize: 1) What # test mono would you get if hurling out 3/4oz sinkers and 2) Whats the ideal # test mono for leaders when using braid Thanks guys!
  17. So at the recommendation of this forum, I went with 8lb mono! I already lost a lure on my first trip after getting snagged Guys whats an all round good lb test for mono to: 1) hurl a 0.75oz egg sinker bait rig out there as far as I can and hopefully not snap off mid cast!, and 2) cast out a lure and if I get snagged, stand a decent chance at recovery Put it this way. While tying knots and cinching down, I snap every other knot. Im so used to working with 40lb mono that it's hard to adjust! I think I need to up my lb test a little. What would be a good lb test mono to step up to for the above mentioned but at the same time not sacrifice too much casting distance. 12lb, 15lb? Oh an by the way, I have other braid rigs, but this one needs to be mono. Thanks.
  18. How much would you guys say a weightless wackey rig weighs (1/0 bass hook, 5" senko)? Just trying to work backwards and figure out what rating rod would be best for this setup. Thanks.
  19. I'm trying to get a sense for what weight lures you guys reach for when casting out from the shore at a lake. I'm thinking 1/4oz offers a decent combo of distance and depth. I was curious to hear what you folks are using.
  20. Has anyone used these? Would they be good for both bass and trout? (the 2", 1/8oz lures). I saw them in store and thought they looked neat. Thanks.
  21. How would you guys rank these for casting 1/16 lures for bass & trout?: Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite Glass Spinning Rod = $20 Eagle Claw Featherlight Spinning Rods = $25 Shakespeare Ugly Stik Elite Spinning Rod = $50 Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Rods = $40 Okuma Celilo Graphite Lightweight Ultra Light Trout Rods = $28 St. Croix Premier Spinning Rods = $120 Berkley Lightning Rod Trout Spinning Rod = $40 (NEW) Berkley Cherrywood Spinning Rod = $25
  22. What about the Ugly Stik Elite, 6'6, 1/32-1/8 ? MSRP of $50 but can probably be had for under $40?
  23. Thanks. I see these are around $70 on Amazon. At that price you're getting close to a St Croix Premier which is pretty highly rated. What's the go to rod for say $40 that can cast out a 1/16oz lure say 30 yards! Thanks. I was looking at getting 6'6 rod which my 6 year old seems to be able to cast pretty well. 6'6 also seems to be a nice compromise for fitting in a car, storing connected in my garage etc. 7'6 feels a bit long, especially when casting in tight places. But I am open to it if the marginal distance gain is worth the added hassle.
