  1. What a great photo. Thats the face of a happy man. Well done.
  2. What color do you guys recommend? These are all the colors available at Bass Pro.
  3. Kayak trip was a new idea a friend came up with and is organizing it. Pond fishing has been great but we've only caught stocked trout. Ive been trying nightcrawlers on 1/0 gamakatsu circle hooks but can't hookup. Bobber moves, kids get excited, sometimes it will dip and then no activity. Reel in and worm is gone. A bit frustrating to reworm every couple of minutes for 2 kids. Wonder if bluegills are stealing the worms? Buying the beetle spins and Yum Dingers for this weekend. Will try them this weekend. Kayak trip in a couple of weeks! Lots if fun. Kids are having a blast (they lasted 4 hours at the pond last weekend).
  4. Any other lure recommendations? We're planning a kayak trip soon. I'm pickup up a Beetle Spin, some 4 inch YUM Dingers with o-ring and 1/0 gama circle hooks. I feel like a need a hard bait swimmer type lure. Keep the ideas coming!
  5. I found these rods in my garage. I like them. Good for casting 3/4oz sinkers for trout with Powerbait. I was thinking about using this for bass too to cast out lures and jib the bottom. Feels like it has enough backbone to work. Anyone else have these rods? What do you use them for?
  6. Good to know thanks. I was hoping for $16 they would offer good bang for your buck.
  7. Cool thanks. I was thinking like a 4'6" rod may be best but I would rather not get another rod. 6'6" is what I'm sticking too. Thanks guys.
  8. What size do the kayak guys prefer? Thanks.
  9. Anyone else used this reel? Thoughts welcome, TY.
  10. I have a nitecore hc90. Sick light.
  11. I have some pork rinds for buck tail jigs that last forever. Could I use those?
  12. I can easily return them to Dicks if need be. But what else would I replace them with at $16? Or is there at $32 reel that is 300% better hence offering better value?
  13. I bought two of these reels recently. They cost $16 each. I'm waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Anyone use these before? Are they half decent? Opinions? Thanks.
  14. Meh Dicks has limited supply of the 1/4oz beetle spins. If you guys had to choose, white/red dot or Black/Yellow Stripe???
  15. What about for kids? My boys is 5, average height I guess (which I looked up, ~42 inches). I assume rod length matters more for kids no? He was practice casting a 6' rod (I think) in the back yard and it seemed a little big. Perhaps a 5' rod would be better but I dont want him to outgrow his rod next year! What rod length would you get for a little guy? Thanks.
  16. I dont see an ultra light rod up there and the light rod is $27+. But I will watch it. My back is the Okuma Celilo 6'6" ultra light trout rod for ~$25 (graphite composite, cork grips, aluminum oxide guide inserts), but I wanted to make sure there isnt a better rod out there, even if it cost a little bit more.
  17. If anyone sees any deals on an ultra light spinning rod please let me know. Thanks!
  18. I liked that guy's vid. What color is this one (specific name, I cant find it at Bass Pro)?
  19. Guys, will hard plastic crankbaits catch all fish or only specific species? This crankbait at Bass Pro looks like it would be simple enough for my son to cast and retrieve, 1/2oz. Strike King Red Eye Shad Crankbaits
  20. Does Berkley Big Game differ that much from Trilene XL casting? Both have 8lb lines. Big game is much cheaper.
  21. Yeah this is for a 5 year old so Im not going near braid! What # test do most people use around here?
  22. This question has probably been asked a zillion times but I'm curious about a couple of things. I cant get to a store to feel what size line would be right to use so Im in the dark. I have two types of line on different reels at the moment. Cant remember what # test I bought (~7 years ago). When I tried to tie up some knots this past weekend, it was very frustrating. The lines just kept snapping. Now I use 50lb mono for stripers, and when I tie those knots, I cannot break the line with full force (the clinch knot really melts into the mono and its very strong). But when I tried to tie the freshwater stuff, I just kept snapping it. Now granted, Im probably using way to much force (I need to adjust). But still, if I get snagged, that line is going to snap, and Im going to lose lures So anyway, I got this reel today, a Shimano Nexave FD 1000 (I hope its a decent reel): http://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-nexave-fd-spinning-reels.html I was thinking about slapping some Berkley Trilene XL Smooth Casting 8lb line on this reel. Would this be a good idea? Is 8lb big enough to recover a lure from some weeds or a tree (remember this little 5 year old is casting haha)? Also, can a decent knot be tied with some force using 8lb line? Thanks guys.
  23. Im going Beetle Spin! I dont know, but this lure just looks sexy AF. Really like it hahahaha. Hopefully my little man can catch something. Thanks for your help. What color is this one? Bass Pro has like a kajillion different weights and colors.
  24. This looks interesting. Never used one. The hook is facing up so wont get snagged on the bottom. Seems simple enough to cast out and retrieve. Neat. Yeah guys, if anyone has kids, you know whats its like. Maybe he will cast out, and see a butterly, and drop the rod for a bit. Any type of inline spinner with trebbels will drop to the bottom and get snagged while little guy is messing around. I'll look into the Johnson Silver Minnow too. Thanks.
  25. What about a crankbait? I found this, any good? 0.5oz Bass Pro Shops Tourney Crankbait
