  1. I was reading how the Rapala original minnow 1/16oz is good for trout. Im guessing bass too. But if I'm lake fishing and want to cast out and retrieve, I need to find a rod that can launch the lure out. Right now I have more bait fishing sticks, 1/4-3/4oz rods. They dont work for ultra light lures. Any recommendations for a decent spinning rod that wont break the bank? Thanks.
  2. For the guys with young kids, I bought a Cabelas life jacket for $8. Pretty good deal.
  3. Watching this thread closely. Im jonesing for more fishing stuff!
  4. Guys just wanted to say thanks. Im embarrassed to say the kids and I havent fished much at all. Too much going on this summer. However, I managed to get 10 casts into the Charles on a recent hike. The first cast in and BAM!!! I caught a small chain pickerel on the beetlespin. I couldnt believe it haha. Managed to get another 9 casts after that and had to run. It was pretty neat. Looking forward to trying the beetlespin again. I think a lighter one would be better, one that doesnt sink as fast. I'll pick up a few more of these. Great recommendation! Cant wait to get the kids using them. Need time.............
  5. I have two of these, still sitting in their packaging. They look REALLY small. I think its plastic construction right? Im so on the fence. Not sure if I should keep them. They look pretty cheap.
  6. DSG is selling 2X the Daiwa Samurai X Spinning Combos for $30, so $15 each. Good reviews.
  7. I havent used these yet! Hope to get to the pond this weekend. I see they are on "sale" at Dicks again, same price, $16. Makes me wonder if they worth that price normally. I'll report back once I've had a chance to use them. Just been really busy!
  8. I'm casting from the shore so the angles are quite different.
  9. Interesting, ok thanks. What about if its under a bobber dangling mid water?
  10. How quickly do you guys reel these in? Ultra slow? How often do you twitch the rod? I looked at one in the water and it just appears to be a piece of straight soft plastic to me. When jigged it looks good, but then just goes back to its original position and looks fake. Do I constantly need to twitch the rod to get action? Thanks.
  11. Little guy fished the beetle spin this weekend. Had the 1/4 and 1/8 oz ones. I think they were too heavy. They drop to the bottom pretty quickly because he doesnt retrieve fast enough (and sometimes he pauses to look at butterflies haha). So it sinks to the bottom pretty quickly and picks up weeds and gunk in no time (and sometimes gets stuck). We only fished it a few casts because of the weeds Nice lure though. Any other suggestions for a genuine weedless rig for casting and retrieving? Something like the beetle spin that is genuinely weedless would work great. Ideas? Thanks!
  12. Tried a 4" watermelon red flake with o-ring and 1/0 circle hook 3 ft from a bobber. No hits. Got the skunk.
  13. What about doubling up on the rubbers, to make them criss cross and then place the hook parallel to the senko.
  14. Hey thanks. Doesnt look too bad. Similar to my default Okuma Celilo UL for the same price. However, why are the review so crappy. Not positive. Serious durability concerns.
  15. They look pretty neat, come in 1/8oz packs. I thought I would try these. Any good?
  16. Light bulb goes off! My daughter has a ton of these tiny rubber bands for her hair. Those will work fine! I dont need the tool. Thank you for the idea!!!. Update: they are pretty thin. They wont cut through the plastic will they?
  17. Hey thanks for the help. Sounds like Nonantum would be a good place to start! I was actually thinking about launching at Millennium park and heading north, exiting at Nonantum (the wife can pick us up there). Looking forward to catching some big bass!
  18. This is not bad. $5.89 with 10 o rings. You can preload them and it has a carabiner. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wacky-Rig-O-Ring-Tool-for-Senkos-Stick-Baits-w-10-orings-/282019703610?hash=item41a9af2b3a:g:-ocAAOSwCfdXovAH
  19. Sorry its only 10 o-rings. Does BPS have the best option or is there something better?
  20. Where's this cheapest place to get a tool and a bunch of o rings? TY.
  21. Bass Pro sells a rigger with 25 o rings for $7. Any place that has a cheaper/more o ring option? Thanks.
  22. Im trying to find a place where my 5 year old and I can go fishing for some decent sized bass. Is this a good spot (I can organize a kayak)? I'm new to bass fishing (always fished stripers and trout), and want to get him into some action pretty quickly so that he doesnt get bored (and I can get him hooked for life!). I've looked around on Google Maps in the Boston area. Cochichuate looks like the biggest lake in the area, and of course we have the Charles. Are there any must visit lakes or spots you can recommend for big bass? I understand we're all protective of our fishing spots so feel free to PM me. I just hope I can put my boy on some big bass soon vs getting skunked over the next couple of weekends (we got skunked the last two!). Thanks.
  23. Subbing to this thread! Hoping to find an ultralight trout rod deal.
  24. Ive always used Repel 100, 98% DEET. Stuff is bulletproof. However, I found out the hard way the stuff melts plastic!!!!????? I don't understand???? I still continue to use it because of its effectiveness but I worry about what is doing to my skin/body. I also worry now about my waders etc. Anyone have similar issues?
