  1. I bought a BPS Micro lite in 6' to try it out. I guess if I can save $120 bucks, why not... I'll most likely return the AVID. Plus the Bass Pro Micro Lite graphite series is $10.00 off also, making it 49.99
  2. Thanks for the explanation. Im having buyers remorse now and thinking about going to the BPS Microlite. In the end, Im not catching monsters and pretty much any rod could do that as BlueBasser already stated.
  3. I already bought an Avid last night... This is typical of me lol. I buy something and then a day or two later, something else comes along. lol... If you dont mind me asking, what did you use the St.Croix L/F setup for?
  4. Interesting. Thanks for your input... THats what Im afraid of, getting something and then regretting it.
  5. yep. I live IN MD but honestly not many places carry St.Croix, well they do but its usually NOT what Im looking for. Darren helped me a lot with the choice of my Avid-Xs I bought last time.
  6. Good to know. So then the L variant would work best for me, Id assume. All in all I'll tell you lol Its pretty d**n hard to choose a rod. Its one of those things where you dont want to mess up, spend money twice etc.
  7. Hmm... Maybe I should've went UL lol. Too many variables here. Sometimes we fish just a small hair jig and then we will use the fly and float method, but use weighted floats... I would think that would be over the weight limit though on an UL.
  8. Alright, maybe I'll just switch out the 6'6" I bought to the 6' Is your Avid a light power? Alright, maybe I'll just switch out the 6'6" I bought to the 6' Is your Avid a light power?
  9. Appreciate it guys. Reason I went with the avid was because I heard the lighter rods could break more easily and it come with a lifetime warranty. I also went with 6'6", but maybe I should've went with 6'? What else would be a good suggestion? The other one I was watching was the BPS microlite, the black one with cork handle
  10. Interesting.. that also drove me away a bit from the MicroLite was the fact that they don't make a 1 piece 6'6" rod, only 6'. The 6'6" is a two piece...
  11. Looking at maybe making some small ball head or shad dart hair/fur/whatever jigs for crappie/other panfish. Sizes around 1/64-1/16 maybe 1/8oz max. I was wondering where should I start? I know a lot with this hobby, you could read the same thing three times and get three different asnwers. Id prefer to pick your guys minds here and just go with that. I would need to know whats the best place to buy materials from? Maybe a kit is out there to get me started? Preferred brand of jig, or are they pretty much the same at that point?
  12. haha I tried to contmeplate that the life time warranty was worth the extra money. And it seems that rods that are in the L power end of the spectrum can break more easily. So all in all that made the decision easier. Although as I said the L St.Croix felt way more whippy than the MicroLite from BPS. Do you think the St.Croix will feel better once Im fishing it?
  13. Darren I got a little out of control just now. Ended up with naother Avid in L and F 6.5' and a president 6925 The L rod did feel whippy to me compared to the M that I use, but I guess thats to be expected since its a L rod...
  14. This isnt directly related to Bass, but more-so smaller fish in general. I want to get a light rod in fast. I was thinking about getting the St.Croix Avid line in L and F for smallerfish/panfish. Any suggestions? Im a bank buster, so Id assume 6'6"-7" MAX. Im afraid of it being too whippy. Although for smaller fish Id guess you'd want that?
  15. Thanks Darren. I just got back from BPS and they didnt have much. but I was able to have the BPS Microlite setup in hand and a St.croix Premier. Granted its USA made but has only a 5yr warranty. The BPS has only a 1 year... So If it were to break within that 5 years and then Id get another one, Id be at the price of the St.Croix. The S.C rod did feel a bit more softer and whippy in the L/F setup compared to the exact same things but in the BPS MicroLite. The M.L. rod felt a bit stiffer, Id assume thats in the blank? Is the St.Croix Premier a good rod versus the BPS Microlite? I have Avid-X's now but they dont make that in a L setup. So I can get the Premier, not spend as much as the Avid line up and have a 5yr warranty. Opinion?
  16. Thanks. Sorry, but what does the ML BPS balance have to do with the tips? So you mean the tips are a bit softer/lighter than St.croix? http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-micro-lite-graphite-spinning-rod That's the ML rod, correct? Does a lighter rod give you more sensitivity by any chance? Should I go 6-7' or maybe 5.5-6'?
  17. Great I guess President 20 it is then. Do all of the St.Croix rods lean on the heavier side of things in terms of rod weight? In this case, if I were to go with the St.Croix Panfish rod in light, should I go to the UL setup as it'll be more-so a lighter light setup? ( again keeping in mind that S.C. leans towards heavier weights than whats listed? ) Lastly should I have a fast action or go slower for the light light jigs Id be using ( talking 1/32 )
  18. Thanks. Yeah using the 30 series on the avid-x's for the bass setups now. Id go for a 6-6.5' rod... I guess as long as the reviews are good on the website, should I just go with that>?
  19. Thanks guys.. The Micro lite rod is this one: http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-micro-lite-glass-spinning-rod or this one: http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-micro-lite-graphite-spinning-rod They also have this setup on sale: http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-micro-lite-elite-rod-and-reel-spinning-combo Questions: What rod? If I were to get another President, should I go to a 20 , 25 or 30 series? Line choice? What do ya'll think?
  20. Like many of us, we're going to get gift cards to the major retailers this season. Well I got some for BPS and I want to get a setup for Yellow Perch, White Perch, possibly Crappie etc. Can someone throw some suggestions that arent too expensive? I dont know if I should go L or UL... Im kind of reluctant to get an UL as Im afriad it'll be too whippy...? Also I'll be bank fishing/wading while using this setup.. Thanks guys!
  21. hahah Went out today... Everything is frozen. Sad day... We drove around for a while from here to there back to over there and ended up here. lol. No go. Now let me ask you this, can I use the Avids in saltwater and then just change out the reel? We have brackish water here but Im still thinking its going to be too cold here for that as well.
  22. Thanks for the kind words. I kinda wanted to do a buy once, cry once with these rods. Are they the best? No. But better than medium grade, from what Ive gathered. I know each like their own brands etc and all but this is what I ended up with.
  23. Thanks. thats what I was thinking... I do want to get another rod, but right now I can get by with what I have, thats based on what I learned earlier in the year. Sure as you said I can dial it in more, but I can still get my feet wet now! Thanks!
