  1. If ur for sure on the slx reel I'd get the combo. If ur new to casting reels I'd suggest a fuego ct over the slx. Just an easier reel to use in my opinion and they're thanks. Fuego on a fury would make a sweet combo.
  2. The only time it would matter would be something like a jerkbait rod. I tend to jerk down towards the water. I'm 6'3 and prefer a 6'9 rod for this technique. I'd assume if I were 5'3 this would affect how I could effectively fish a jerkbait the way I fish it. Other than this I prefer all my other rods to be over 7'
  3. I've defended the favorite deal many times on here but I think even I am starting to kinda be repulsed by this company. Apparently they're doing fine by taking money from kids who don't realize how much better there is for the money. As stated, many companies offer much better products at any price point. I've handled several favorites and buddies have a cple. I'd take any 13, abu, basspro, daiwa, shimano, etc. Of course this is all q matter of opinion. If it seems like a good deal to you try one and report back as to how it fishes.
  4. I would have no hesitation using that vehicle for your boat. I towed a 16ft stratos around for a few years with a 4 cylinder 4x4 ranger. Probably not the safest combination but I took it slow and never had any problems. As stated the braking was the biggest problem. I'm sure it will do just fine.
  5. My cousin got burned on that exact boat a cple years ago. Transom was pretty much gone and he was too green to figure it out. That doesnt mean they're prone to that, someone just didnt take care of it. I'm of the belief that a good portion of older glass boats with wood in them are most likely water logged and people never notice it til something catastrophic happens. Pretty sure those hulls were part of what gave nitro a bad rap that I think they still havent fully recovered from. I'd definitely do my homework and go over it with a fine tooth comb.
  6. I know several guys that could be fishing whatever boat they wanted and they fish nitros. Are they equivalent to a ranger or skeeter? Probably not. Are they priced comparably....not at all. For the difference in price I'd take a cple small inconveniences. I personally love Triton boats but I'd buy a nitro if I were in the market for a new glass rig. Find a good dealer and get the boat fairly priced and whatever issues you have will be under warranty.
  7. I just bought my Triton 18tx a few months ago and have not regretted trading in a Triton 20x2 for it. Havent had it that long but long enough to know for my area and fishing style I'll probably never buy another glass rig.
  8. I see the point behind being helpful and sharing knowledge and also being tight lipped. I used to be the guy that didnt want to share what was working etc. The older I get the more I see that being that way breeds a negative light on the sport. I've told guys I was about to fish tournaments against what has been working for me. I guess I just feel like even if they know exactly what I'm doing all I have to do is do it a little better than they do to still win. It just adds to the comradery and competition to me. To each their own as usual tho
  9. It will definitely work. My dad has done this several times. Just obviously changes the length and action of the rod. I see no reason it wont work for something tho
  10. I use 3/0 wide gap Gammys or just straight shank flipping trokar hooks.
  11. Everyone is gonna tell u one is far and away better than the rest. Probably cant go wrong with any that you listed. Figure out what all u have to have or want. Is a bargain more important than anything else? I'm big on value. I hear vexus is top of the line. They are priced like they are. I traded my Triton 20x2 glass boat in on a new Triton 18tx a few months ago. I lost some storage and speed. I gained warranty, ease of use and hauling, lots of fuel economy. I had a cple small issues quickly and my dealer handled them and compensated me for my time. After owning it for a few months I will never own another glass boat. It fishes as good as my glass rig did. Things I worried about before I no longer worry about. I'm sure there are better boats but I think It would be hard to beat for what I paid for it. Definitely go with the 24 volt trolling motor and I'd highly suggest an ultrex simply because the aluminum rig does get blown around a little more than glass. As for the channels in the hull, all the lakes I fish are filled with stumps and I've been hung up once. Same thing happened with my glass rig. I honestly think the future of bass boats is aluminum. All the things we used to have to sacrifice going aluminum has been updated. There are things aluminum offers that no glass boat ever will. Good luck
  12. Maybe I'm just not aware of how bad my braid is...I've used spiderwire stealth for many years on spinning and casting gear and have never had a problem with either. Actually prefer it to the power pro I've tried a cple times. Apparently I'm in the minority but I have no plans to change
  13. As already stated the pad crasher. Went thru this exact thing a cple years ago. Tried them all and settled on the pad crasher as the best all around frog/value
  14. Having owned both I would highly suggest the jon boat. I'm 200 lbs and my dad is 190 and we were always cramped on the plastic boats. No storage room either. They're fun for small waters and fishing alone. If you fish with a partner usually I'd go jon boat for sure
  15. My dad and I did his jon boat a few years ago. 15 ft tracker topper. Used plywood and outdoor carpet. Got compliments everywhere we went. He has since upgraded to a bass boat but we still talk all the time about missing the jon. It was quite stable, fished all the time out of it standing. Was fun and not that complicated. Good luck
  16. As stated, it wont take long and it'll just be memory. I rarely use my pedestals unless I'm on bigger water. Ky lake for example, I've been on the ledges at times when I dont think you could stay in the boat without something to lean on and hang onto.
  17. Fluoro on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits for me always. Mono for cranking and topwaters only. I strongly disagree that mono is better for everything except bottom contact lures. Each to their own tho that's why we have so many options
  18. I guess I'm old school. I enjoyed the mlf when it was a fall deal after they'd fished the elites etc. I find myself less interested in professional fishing now than I've ever been. Its taken everything I've ever known and turned it on its head. As a kind of side deal it was cool. The novelty has worn off now and I'm not a fan of it. Maybe itll grow on me but I miss the way it used to be already.
  19. Any of these will be great. I've used spiderwire stealth in green for years with no issues. Buddy uses power pro. I cant say one seems any better or worse. I've never tried the high vis although I may next time I spool some.
  20. No it's not worth the price difference. The ones I've fished seemed to be a touch smoother but not enough to justify a bill. The MGL is a fine reel. That would have to be ur preference. Different braking systems so that plus the ergonomics would be the deciding factor for me.
  21. Green pumpkin and black & blue pull about 95 percent of my duties for plastics. Used to buy tons of other but over the years I've simplified it to mostly these 2. Besides finesse worms, morning dawn is my go to
  22. Not a thing wrong with fishing purely for sport, keeping what's legal or killing legal game to eat or feed someone who needs it.
  23. Yeah for that much of a difference in $ I'd buy the lews. Probably can't go wrong with any of them tho. Good luck with whatever direction you go!
  24. Never had the anteres so no comment on that one. The overwhelming majority are gonna say either shimano and I'm sure they're fantastic. Myself, I'd look for a deal on the lews. I'm sure any of the 3 will exceed expectations so whichever I could find the cheapest would be my pick. I'd say you can find the lews for quite a bit less than the other 2
  25. Too many variables. Both are capable of bombing casts. Rod action and line as well as lure weight etc. All will factor in.
