  1. I've read about and fished t rigs both ways. I've settled on exclusively pegging my weights. Just seems to do better for me all around. Try it both ways and see what you think
  2. Garmin has the livescope. Humminbird has came out with their version tho I have no clue about it. If I were in ur position I'd want Humminbird helix mega si units, ultrex trolling motor with all the goodies built in. The helix units gen 3 or newer are compatible with their version of livescope and 360. Id take the 360 over livescope myself but ideally having both would be nice. I just sold my garmins and replaced them with Humminbird helix 12's and am very satisfied so far. Basspro is fixing to have the helix 10's on sale I got the flyer yesterday. Don't get too caught up in having to have everything. Ull spend a fortune and 5 years from now it'll all be out dated. I've ran lowrance, garmin, and birds. The garmins are nice but the Humminbird mega offers detail on side imaging thats better than anything I've ever seen. Good luck I'm sure it will be quite the adventure!
  3. I've caught a few on it but still seem to do better with a shakey head and drop shot. Plan on trying it more this year but as of right now I'm not all in on it
  4. Other than reducing weight, assuming things are setup correctly, there's really nothing that would be worth the money in my opinion. I've pondered going with lighter batteries, having my prop worked etc. but at the end of the day I bought a boat that maxes out around 50 and I could spend a cple grand to gain what...2-4 mph? Just not worth the return on the investment. There's no subs for ponies. I'd just enjoy it and accept that it is what it is. I fish a lot of tournaments and rarely do I pass anyone on takeoff. I've accepted this and I really like everything else about mine.
  5. I throw electric shad in the rage swimmers and blue/chartreuse, pro blue pearl and sexy shad in keitechs
  6. 3.8 gets most of the play in my boat. Keitechs or rage swimmers don't seem to matter much
  7. Pretty sure whatever unit u save it on has to be on to be able to see it on the other. It doesn't save the waypoints to the linked unit just shows them as a smaller icon. So yes to see the waypoints on the bow that were saved on the console the console unit would have to be on
  8. Used to fish ky lake a cple times a year and it was fantastic a few years ago. Haven't been in a few years due to the negative impact of the carp. Everyone around here (live in Central ky) says its not what it used to be by a long shot. All the trails I fish around here used to have their classics at ky lake and they've all moved them to chickamauga or Cumberland now. Not real familiar with Dale hollow. Id guess it would be a little worse fishing but more peaceful and pretty. Of course you have Cumberland as well and it's turned into a pretty hot smallmouth lake. I personally would probably try my luck at ky/Barkley but Dale would be a fun trip as well.
  9. I know 2 guys that pull big bass boats with tacomas. One has a 21 ft bullet so it's lighter than others. Other guy has a 20ft ranger. They seem to do fine but I personally wouldn't want to do it. As already stated the stopping power and such would be my concern. If it were short travel times I'm sure it would be fine but if it were hilly terrain and hour or more trips I'd suggest upgrading the truck or down grading the boat. I tow a 19 ft aluminum rig with a hemi and sometimes it seems like overkill but id much rather have too much truck. Truck should last longer and I never feel like I'm in any danger. I actually just pulled my rig 2 hrs to a buddies last night to put new graphs on. A blizzard came while I was there so I towed home in a snow storm. Never had a problem. I wouldn't have wanted to have had to pull a big glass boat in that with a frontier or tacoma.
  10. The dealer will be the one installing all the stuff. Even stuff thats ordered to the best of my knowledge is put on by the dealer. If I could save some money id absolutely take the one they have as long as it would satisfy me. I also am in the diy crowd. I dont trust anyone so when I bought my new rig I ordered all my electronics myself. I do agree tho that it might get over my head if it was several things to link and install. All I've ever really fooled with is trolling motors and graphs
  11. I'll throw the 168 s waver and have actually done pretty well with it. Anything bigger gets no play for me. I'm more of a finesse fisherman overall but I fish a lot of tournaments so most of my fishing spring thru late summer is geared around that. One local lake is small and is a trophy lake. Ive had days ive threw the s waver all day at this lake. Dont get a ton of bites but usually better quality
  12. Several of these opinions kinda got me scratching my head. Around here they hold their value and seem to be as if not more sought after than rangers. Ive always thought of them as top tier for sure. Ive got a few buddies with em and they all love them. Im not crazy about the looks up until the last 5 years or so but id have no problems owning one and certainly wouldn't consider it lower quality than any other boat made
  13. Its gonna depend on what ur after. There is no comparison on the side imaging between the garmins and the helix. The helix mega is the top dog in that world. Everything else is comparable and basically user preference. I have the uhd with gt54 and its decent. My cousin has helix with mega and they're definitely much better with side imaging and more detailed. I like the mapping and 2d on the garmins better. Fixing to put 2 helix 12 mega si gen 3's on my rig and run 2 garmins strictly for Mapping. For the money tho the garmins are hard to beat. You definitely pay for the birds. Can't offer any info on the gt56 these guys apparently have the info on that one.
  14. I guess it would depend on how rough the water can get and if you plan on fishing in it if it is rough. The ranger/triton tins as well as the bass tracker are fantastic platforms especially for someone fishing solo and can be had new for your price range. Not sure how it is elsewhere but around here it's almost impossible right now to find a decent deal on a used boat. Theyre simply not available so many people are buying since the rona hit. I traded in a big fiberglass boat for mine a cple years ago and have been quite pleased with it. Although, if I lived on ky lake or somewhere that gets pretty nasty I'd be running a glass rig myself.
  15. I fish a lot of smaller lakes and have had it on some bigger water. No great lakes caliber water tho. Id have no problems taking it anywhere but would definitely keep an eye on the weather. It wouldn't handle big water like a glass boat or something like the lund pro v bass. My dad has an older 18ft stratos and my triton handles rough water better than his. If you're wanting something that'll handle big water consistently id probably look for something with a deeper v or a bigger glass boat. If its something that you're gonna do once or twice a year it'd be just fine. Good luck
  16. I have 15 or 16 combos. 3 spinning rest casting. My boat can comfortably handle about 12 in the rodbox. Usually take around 8 for fun fishing and 10 or so for tournaments. Usually carry 2 or 3 flippin sticks cause I love flippin and in case I break one or something I've got another. Carry 2 or 3 jerkbait rods cause I love fishing those too. I could get by with 4 to 6 but why get by if you can throw in some over kill lol. No right or wrong answer to this. Take whatever makes you happy
  17. Lots of good options. Dobyns fury, carbonlite, just got a 7'10 shimano slx hvy and its actually surprised me. Bought the combo rod and reel for 139 and its pretty light, perfect handle length and plenty of backbone. Basically anything 7'3 to 7'10 heavy should do the job just depends on budget and what suites u
  18. You hear people talk negatively about the ranger tins but my experiences have been different. I have a triton tin thats basically identical and a couple guys we fish with have the rangers. They have all been very pleased as have I. Nicely built and fit and finish is pretty good as well. Never been in an xpress but lots of people speak highly. I agree that you should go crawl around both and see what you think. Im sure one will stick out to you. Those vexus are nice tin rigs as well but like xpress you pay for it.
  19. 3 daiwa tatula ct reels when tw had their sale. I swear those reels used to feel amazing and all 3 of these were loud and not what they used to be in my opinion.
  20. All gonna depend on several factors. My rig is still pretty new so all I need to do is an oil change and the 4 stroke is good for the year. Trailer has vault hubs so probably 5 years or so of little to no maintenance. Obviously assuming I keep it those costs will go up as the rig gets older. Actual maintenance costs will never be crazy but actual repairs are pretty costly. Id say 3-400 is a little steep depending on what ur willing to do urself. I change my fluids and such myself. Id say my oil change and lower unit fluid change may set me back 80 bucks or so.
  21. Reclending is ur friend if u dont have a local credit union or anything you can go through. Definitely a big purchase and worth some research and planning depending of course on ones financial situation. Hated financing my aluminum triton but was basically in the same boat. Had had several but most were considerably older. For the most part they were reliable but did have a couple instances i was left stranded. The peace of mind is priceless if you're on the water a lot. It would be hard to go back after running a new 4 stroke for a cple years. It may break down tomorrow but I'm confident in it and its under warranty if it does.
  22. My vote is for clunn. Its definitely a tough one to debate and valid arguments on both sides. As mentioned tho I take into account that even kvd had some of the older guys to model his game after. He came along at a time when electronics were taking off. Clunn did damage in a time when that wasn't the case...and continues to do damage against the best in the business with said electronics. He is the zen master in my book and quite honestly has done it all the right way! I do believe Lee or Wheeler have the potential to change this debate but that's years down the road!
  23. X2. Mayhe not the best at anything but very versatile and tough. Lews tournament pro lfs reels are pretty slick as well
  24. Sounds like a good deal to me if everything checks out and is in good shape!
  25. I've never tried the magnum flutter spoons and likely never will. Have had some success with the strike king flutter spoons tho. Theyre cheap enough and not such a load to throw
