  1. My apologies. I took a hiatus and I haven't visited BR in some time. It's frustrating because they have a great selection and prices.
  2. I don't get it. I placed an order today, all items were showing as in stock and I get an estimated shipping date of 7/9... That's 3 weeks away. I realize covid had a lot of stuff messed up, but we're thankfully getting past that. What on earth could be going on that'd cause the time to pull an order, box an order, charge my card, slap on a shipping label and send that order out the door, to take 3 weeks? Freaking chickens are grown quicker. I could have kfc grow me a 20 piece extra crispy meal from scratch in faster time. Okay, well maybe not a 20 piece, but they could probably do a 10 piece in that time.
  3. Hi. I recently picked up a rod to keep in my car for whenever I'm out and about and feel like a little shore fishing. It's set up for Ned rig... 1000 series spinning reel, med light, moderate, 10# braid with 6# floro leader. What other baits would this rod fish well? I'm in the Chicago area, most of the lakes and ponds around me are pretty stained and have a lot of weeds. I have a rebel crick hopper popper I used to use that I was successful with on another setup that I think would work, I'm looking for others which might work. Also, I'm not opposed to catching other fish besides bass... Just looking for something fun to play around with. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I ended up getting the 315 from ACK. I should have it on Thursday... Now I just need to figure out how to get out of that wedding I'm supposed to go to on Saturday so I can try them out.
  5. Hello I'm considering the purchase of Boga grips either the 15 or the 30 lb. I fish from a kayak and target Bass. I fish lakes that have some Pike and Muskie, some fairly large. I would like a pair of grips that would be able to handle both the bass and the pike/musky. Is there much of a difference in terms of gripping force of the jaws on the 15 versus the 30? My biggest concern is being able to handle large fish safely as it is trying to thrash around.
  6. I'm surprised not one of you hillbillies suggested dynamite
  7. I'm thinking this might work best, though I'd probably use 65# braid as my main line. On the other curado 71's I have anything under 50# tends to lash because of dig in.
  8. I'm assuming you're not suggesting flourocarbon for top water because of the lines lack of buoyancy... It wants to sink. Would braid with a flourocarbon leader help counteract this somewhat? If not, what about braid with a monofilament leader? My concern with going with braid or flourocarbon is the lack of stretch and ripping out hooks.
  9. Hands down! Live Target Topwater Sunfish.
  10. Hello. I have a Dobyns fr705cb (mh/mf 1/4-1oz) paired with a Curado 71HG that I intend on using primarily for squarebills and lipless cranks, but will also be used for jerkbaits and some top water baits on occasion (like poppers, spooks and jitterbugs)... So pretty much anything with a treble hook that weighs under 3/4oz What type of line would you use to cover the majority of these baits?
  11. I use chartreuse or bright yellow braided line with a flourocarbon leader. The bright line floating on top the water helps to detect if something is moving your slackened line.
  12. Or maybe I should just smoke another bowl and play Mario Kart? ... Screw it. I'm smoking another bowl and playing Mario Kart.
  13. Is the biggest difference the IPT of the reel and the durability of the gears? I have a Dobyns 705cb with a Curado 71hg spooled up with 12lb P Line mono that I use to fish crankbaits (not yet fished, but I bought it and in theory it'll work). I fish out of a kayak, so space is a premium. I'd like to be able to dual purpose this rod and use it for both. I've been thinking a 201k might be better than the 71hg for this and if I should consider swapping it. The 71hg has a retrieve 2 IPT greater than the 201k along with (I think) the same micromodule gearing, so is it much of an upgrade? Would you just stand pat?
  14. Hello. Novice question here, but what's the difference in terms of gear between a DD Crank setup vs a dedicated crankbait setup?
  15. 20% off Giordano's pizza today with code 617-900-658?
  16. I totally agree with you BB. It's not for us to decide what looks like what. When you think about it it's f'ed up for bass to strike at a lure which is bass colored. It goes against what we, as humans, know what is acceptable. All I'm saying is it is equally f'ed up for bass to go after "excrement" of another fish. As someone who has owned fish tanks all their lives I'm not saying that it is probable that Bass look for another fishes excrement, I'm saying it is extremely likely.
  17. Or it could be that they just look like poo. Maybe the next big bass catching lure is a big musky sized turd.
  18. Leeches have an eel-like swimming motion in the water. They tend to extend and flatten their bodies and have a wave like motion to propel themselves. Worms (earthworms) have an understandably unpredictable motion. Sometimes they are compact, others they are extended. In both scenarios they are not a cigar shaped (at best) shimmying stick.
  19. If you think fish don't eat ****, you need to buy 2 guppies
  20. I think I had a revelation. I was thinking about starting a post to debate the topic... "What is most important when selecting a lure?". Is it action, profile or color which is most important? My personal feelings fall in line with the order they are listed... Action trumps profile, profile trumps color. Then I got to the senko. In terms of action what does the senko imitate in nature? It doesn't have action like any fish. It doesn't squirm around like a worm or a leech. It just this slowly falling stick. I keep saltwater fish. I've given them all sorts of great food to eat. I've fed them shrimp, clams, live worms... A bunch of different things. Yet any time one of my wrasses take a dump and let that slowly sinking little fart morsel into the water column a frenzy breaks out. So if I go back to our tackle boxes... What in our tackle boxes most resemble this slowly sinking fart morsel? It's gotta be the senko.
  21. 6" BD Shad 6" magdraft Gantia Gantarel Huddleston 68 7" shine glide 6" Spro bbz-1 Bbz rat 50 Mattlures shad S Waver 168 Are all the ones in my arsenal at the moment. The heaviest (I think) is 2.5oz, so they're all within the range you specified. As for gear I'm using a Cardiff 300 with upgraded drag washers and a Fenwick ETB79XH. Through very limited experience before the temps went crashing it seemed to perform well. I was throwing a 2oz spinner on it before I went a little crazy with the brake settings and took my reel out of commission for the day.
  22. I'm thinking about picking up a rod and reel for use with most treble hook baits. Things like 1/2-3/4 red eye shads, squarebills, shallow diving cranks, jerkbaits, topwaters... Pretty much anything with a treble hook from 3/8-3/4oz. I'm leaning towards a Curado 201k (not the hg or xg) and a dobyns fury 705cb. I was also looking at the quantum kvd (kvdc705m) as another possibility. What do you all use or recommend for this application and is there any concerns with the setup I'm leaning towards?
  23. Sorry to ressurect and old thread, but does the k series use the same knob as the 70 series?
