  1. I am in manufacturing, and I love it! I can very much appreciate this video, and understand the heart it takes to make something. I started using Riverside by Yum when I was too poor to buy anything else, and was beating the banks from a bike. Now I use yum dingers by the boat load. I want to try their frog and christie craw too. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Abu Garcia Vendetta in 6’3” ml. $80
  3. I really like the lighting rods, and lighting rod shocks for the price. Walmart has em’.
  4. I’m in the braid camp. I do get others opinions and logic on why they might like mono or fluorocarbon, but it’s highly personal. If you like braid, use it and don’t think twice. I use 30 for most things, and my version of heavy cover (Matt’s, slop), anything 1/2oz or heavier, or most frog fishing gets 65.
  5. I also like my Cabelas advanced angler large bag. It’s really not that big and I carry what I need for the day. I have 5 of the ultra thin Plano 3600 style boxes, a small spinner bait box, and the small KVD worm bag in it. I use it in my boat and anyone else’s and is still small enough to carry for shore fishing, although I prefer to throw a few boxes in a backpack for that. It’s pretty waterproof too. It’s been a great tournament bag.
  6. Brew city nailed it. I’m in Green Bay Area. For me, always tied on is a 1/4oz mini flip jig(think sk bitsy flip) with a small chunk trailer. I can fish this bait nearly everywhere in every way possible, I’ve even drug it across pads like a frog and caught em. It’s just consistent for both LM and SM.
  7. It’s different strokes for different folks. I live in walleye and musky country, bass fishing just isn’t that excepted here. The folks who “bass fish” primarily tournament fish here, and there are a few who make it hard for the rest of the general fishing community to accept “us”. My boat can hit mid 60s, and a few years ago I ran it like I stole it. Glad I never owned a crotch rocket, I had already had tons of trouble with fast cars. Fast forward to now, and I still enjoy opening it up. However, I’m way more conscious of my audience, surroundings and passengers. If someone is with me whose never been in a high performance boat before, 35-40 is it. If it’s rough, same. If there’s people around, same. Speed is fun, for me, but there’s a time and a place, and it isn’t all the time. Btw, Tritons are known for chine walking, but it’s possible your buddy was allowing the boat to do that to give more speed effect, it’s a dangerous condition if you don’t control it before it begins.
  8. Nice!! Still waiting on the frog bite to turn on here, seeing your pics makes me anxious for it.
  9. I’ve done well with a Berkley grass pig and RI skinny dipper, and SK caffeine shad, but I like the yum pulse the best. Cheap, swims and rolls a lot like a Keitech. I use the bigger pulse. I use em on buzzbaits and swim jigs too. Versatility is important to me.
  10. Maybe keep a yoga mat in the boat? I’m going to redo my boat in deck it, which has some cushion compared to carpet. I don’t think I’ll miss carpet. Honestly good shoes help a lot. I never valued that, standing in crappy flip flops all the times, until I started having issues of course.
  11. I can’t help you with those two, but I don’t think you could go wrong with a St. Croix Legend Tournament 7’1” MF. True medium power, true fast action. Balanced, light, quality all the way through.
  12. St. Croix has a 7’ rod in the Triumph Musky series, rated 3/4-3oz. They have an XH rated higher.
  13. I like owner, but in ewg super line I use fusion19, Eagle claw heavy wire ewg, or X-point.
  14. I run an older Ranger with a 150, it’s paid for and I’m proud it’s mine, top of the line in its day. But, I have to admit I feel out of place at times, at least for a moment, at take off or weigh in. The tournament “scene” has painted this picture that you need the greatest of this or the greatest of that. Run what ya brought! Nice boat btw. You can smile when you run by all the new 20’ers in 3 foot waves in that ol champ! Congrats on the boat and good luck in future tournaments!
  15. I made my first big purchases in fishing at BPS years ago, and I’m glad I did because it allowed me to handle gear. As I’ve aged I buy more on deals and online, only because I know what I’m buying. Due to a 4 hour drive, I only go about once every 1-2 years, but I still enjoy looking at tackle and picking up rods. I’ve been to the Springfield store twice, that place is an experience!
  16. How much line do you have spooled. You won’t cast as far but you can start with less line on the spool until you get it down.
  17. Check out Arkies website or JMAC lures for jigs, about $1.50 each. Some northland lures are well priced. The northland reed runner spinnerbait is $3 and is quite good. We don’t throw super expensive jigs and spinnerbaits around here due to Northern Pike and Muskie. Fisherman’s Factory Outlet for anything fishing, rods/reels especially. What you have is a pretty good selection really.
  18. Yeah they sure were! My buddy was on a collegiate team at the time and a lot of people had em. It was a good time to introduce the “new” $100ish dollar rod of that era. I knew guys who sold all their rods to buy those. Held a few, they were light! I just never bit due to horror stories.
  19. I’ve had similar issues. I bought two to try, probably had 15-20 blow ups before I finally caught one. I have only caught two. I am still on the first bait and it’s holding up well, but the original tail is starting to poke the wire through. I love the concept, it seems like a pretty decent bait, but my hookups are far better on my popping frogs and scum frogs. Maybe I’ll make a couple homemade ones over winter to try, like what was posted here in the past.
  20. I don’t know exactly what rods you are looking at, but judging by the specs it looks like either would be fine for what you want to do. I prefer shorter rods so I’d go with the 7’1”.
  21. Man, I hate when rod makers put labels on rods like this. What exactly are you looking for in a rod?
  22. I’m sure he’s a decent kid, not all of em are bad. Some words of wisdom and an example were all he needed sounds like.
  23. I started on two bps extreme combos and a hand me down lightning rod/shimano 10xg, it was way more than I needed as a 14 year old, but I was so excited to fish with them! The next year I bought my first Curado, and have owned many nice Shimano/st. Croix set ups. Just last week I was at FFO, picked up two blackmax baitcasters for $30 total, and 3 vendetta rods, they feel nice in my hands, so to me that’s all that matters. I also own 2 HMGs, it’s as nice of a rod as anyone needs. That boy ought to be thankful and just enjoy, that setup is more than enough to create a memory or win the next tour event. I make way more money now than I did when I was 14, but my desire to buy more expensive gear hasn’t increased, I think it’s just priorities.
  24. I met Woo Daves, Bill dance, the hibdons, Hank Parker, Jimmy Houston when I was very young, so those guys are naturally some of my favorites. Guido Hibdon was always a stand up guy.
