Outboard Motor Upgrade Question
Could be his flotation foam is water logged, making the boat super heavy.

Kinda funny
Dad and I were headed somewhere, and we saw a tractor trailer roll off dumpster truck make a turn pretty quick. The dumpster flipped off the truck, and dump its contents, a load of nice dark dirt (great for gardens - most of what we have is red clay around here) all over the road. When we get up there, he is pulling off to the side of the road, and the dumpster is hanging off the left side, being drug only by the winch. Ya know, those things have safety chains, to keep them attached to the truck. It has always bothered me to see a dumpster truck driver back up to the dumpster, attach the winch, pull it up, tilt it down, and drive off. Meanwhile, the safety chains are just dangling lazily.

About to start a rebuild on a 13 ft Aluminum Vee
Another option to look at, is how much of the area that the glue is on will be exposed. If it is going to have a deck, or carpet over it, there is no need to spend the time scraping that crap off. Just think of it as a protective layer for the inside of the hull. ;D

Outboard Motor Upgrade Question
Your old Chrysler was never regarded as a powerful motor. Not many people like them, and most hate them. Getting a late 80s 85, if it is a johnson/evinrude, it will be a V4, and though they are bullet proof motors, they are heavy, and suck gas down like a sumb****. In a 115, they are a reasonable weight, and reasonable on the fuel intake, but the 75, and the 85 are so close, it isn't worth it, until you get past 100 horses, in my opinion. The 75 is going to be a three cylinder, and they are good motors. That is probably on the high side of what you want. A newer 60 would probably do you fine. In the mid eighties, the hp ratings started changing from the powerhead, to the prop. An outboard generally loses 10 % of its crankshaft hp, before reaching the propshaft, so the late 80s motors were 10% stronger than the early ones. You mentioned going with a 40 to 50, but I personally wouldn't do that, as it doesn't seem justifiable to spend a few bucks on a newer, smaller motor, that doesn't perform any differently from an older, larger one. I would go ahead, and make the upgrade to a 60 or so.

About to start a rebuild on a 13 ft Aluminum Vee
What nobody pointed out, is the amount of fun, and self satisfaction that comes from doing this stuff. Mind you, even though I am only 14, I have a lot of experience, with tools, and creating, as my dad practically threw tools into my hands when I was born. So, the skill part of it came naturally for me. But, there is something about restoring boats, that is a bit more fun, than much other work. It may be, because so many skills are required, we use woodworking skills on certain aspects, steelworking on trailers, alum. skills on structure, not to mention mechanics of 2 stroke outboards, and electrical work. I don't know, but whatever it is, it is a great hobby. Visit many restoration forums, and you will see other people, who think the same about it as me. We started out, looking for a boat we could fix up, and use to fish from. Then, it has evolved into constantly looking for boats, so I can buy, fix, sell, and sometimes make a profit, and to restore some of the classics (just picked up a 1936 OMC 4.3 horse outboard. I am so thrilled!) For something like you are doing, it really isn't going to take that much in the way of tools, and expertise. Mostly just the willingness to learn, and put some work in it. If, or when, you decide to do this, just let us know. I can put you on some good sites for that sort of thing.

My Solemn Oath
I will proudly say that I have NEVER sent, nor received a text message. EVER. As far as instant messages, I have only used them on some other archaic site, as there are no private messages, so I use the IMs in the same form as I use PMs on here. What really ticked me off, is earlier this week, in English class, we had to prepare a text message conversation between two characters in the book we are reading, using standard text lingo. My teacher had to print out a sheet for me, as I honestly don't know any of it. What really causes me to blow up, is when people start TALKING to me in letters. I don't want to hear JK, when someone is telling me they are kidding. Now, on a board like this, with the diversity of people here, we will stumble across some who really don't have the writing knowledge some of us possess. But, I can almost assure you, that if you are able to work with a computer, you know fairly well what a sentence is, and that the first letter is capitalized, and the end is punctuated. but if the whole sentence looks like this one i am typing even if everything is spelled right and uses the correct form of each word it is totally horrible to read how do they expect me to be able to help them if i have to constantly struggle to understand what is being said..... A simple capital letter, and period, or question mark, makes a sentence so much easier to read. People, get a grip. Don't talk in text lingo, because I don't understand it, and I am sure most of the adult members certainly don't. Also, attempt to use correct grammar on a stupid sentence. It isn't hard, and if you TRY, I will give you credit, and try to help. Mike, I find the irony of the mistakes in your original post quite humorous. But no, I AM NOT CRITICIZING YOU, SO DON'T PESTER ME WITH HOW YOU MADE A MISTAKE - I AM JUST POINTING OUT THAT IT WAS HUMOROUS. (Yes, I typed that in all caps intentionally. Generally, they are used to signify yelling, or a stronger attempt to get a point across)

Handicapped bass boat project
I don't know what he wants. That is why the toons' were a suggestion. I elaborated on that suggestion on another forum that he posted this on. But, as far as that bass cat, I know a bit about boats, and I have restored quite a few. From the condition of that one, and lack of quality in the mod work, not to mention all the rest of the problems with it, that would end up costing WAYY to much. And that is the reason I tell him not to deal with that dealer. We got blown badly on an outboard from there. That was our first boat, and we had little experience. Since then, having gone back with much knowledge about older boats (that is my hobby, aside from fishing) we have seen how shady they are, and they were selling motors that hadn't been checked, or run since 2001 as running motors. If a motor has sit for six years, chances are, it won't "fire right up." And, we are going by the tag that they put on the motor, as far as when it was last run. No I do not own 'toons, or sell boats as a business, but I do know a thing about boats, and am trying to help other people out. That dealer has a bad rep. with anybody who has bought from them, that I have found, and unless you don't know better, the prices are WAY to high. Plus, that boat was in essence, ruined by the previous owner.

JunkYard Wars
Watched it a bit way back when. I thought it was on TLC, back before it went to the dogs, but I could be wrong. There were a few real nice episodes, then hosts changed, and topics starting getting a little goofy, and it disappeared.

Handicapped bass boat project
NOOO!! NOOO!! DON'T! I have seen that boat in person. You DO NOT want it. Also, I would not deal with the dealer selling it, if at all possible. There are some exceptions, like with our Lund that came from them, at a little higher than its yankee value, seeing as that is the only one like that in this half of the country (not real popular down here - I haven't ever seen another one, in restorable condition, like we wanted) You will really be happy with the toon. See my post on forums.iboats.com. Since the toon will cost more, you may want to get some help in funding. Maybe get a scout troop to help. As an active member, and leader in one, and just about ready to start working on Eagle Scout project, I can tell you that they can raise money. I haven't started majorly studying the Eagle project requirements, so I don't know if he is allowed to work hand in hand with another citizen, but if you can find one that is in need of a project, he may be able to to raise money, and get this project rolling, and maybe even start an organization to get more of these going on a regular basis. Good Luck!!

Anybody ever put structure into a pond like this?
A local board here, that I am a member of, works hand in hand with the conservation part of the corps, doing a lot for the lake. They have told us, that if we go and do 2 or 3 trees, don't worry about it, and just be discreet. They tell us to ask, if we are doing larger amounts, for one reason. They just want to make sure they are in a safe place. They have disapproved a few of our locations, as, even though there was nothing there now, a large dock was going to be built soon, and they didn't want trees impeding the path of the boats to this private dock. It seems to be just for safety reasons.

Started to deck my boat and....
I will sell you my 50 pound thrust one of those if you want. But, I will tell you, as I am on this board to get help, and help people, not be a salesman, that you probably don't want that. The steering on that is super slow. Since it is used for steering, you will probably want a cable steer, as it will keep up better with the transom motors, and plus they fish easier. And, I don't know about the V2 foot pedals, but the one on mine is a PITA to use while sitting down.

Removing Paint
Just go fishing. I usually have trouble keeping the paint on my boat while fishing, so getting it offshouldn't be a problem.

360 tackle bag??
Drop some extra trebles or split rings into your tiny spaces. No reason for it to be wasted space, there's always something it could hold. Well, we posted almost simultaneously. The problem there is, I am too much of a neat freak when it comes to tackle. I honestly don't have a clue why, as everything else is a jumbled mess, and I can find everything, but my tackle has to be spiffy clean. Therefore, all the terminal tackle stays in one box. I see other peoples tackle, where they can fit quite a few cranks, or jerks, in one box, that isn't much bigger than mine, but mine just seems ill shaped/sized. Maybe that neat freak part coming out, I don't know.

360 tackle bag??
I guess my question was would I be happier with the 3700s or something than the 3600s. I am real happy with the Bill Dance tacklebag that I have for the 3600s, and they make, and have on sale, the same bag for the 3700s. For 32 bucks, it includes 6 of the cheapo 3650 tackle trays. In the long run, they would get changed for better quality trays, as would my 3600s, if I kept it. Should I live with it, get the 3700, or get something else. What do yall use (tacklebag, and tray size)

360 tackle bag??
Guess I am the only one who has had that problem. Or, the only one that uses 360s. It just seemed to me that the dividers never fit lures correctly. At the end, there is always a slot, just small enough not to fit a lure, but just big enough, to bother me with a lot of wasted space.

Boat theives!
If it is under a certain HP, you don't need boat insurance - homeowners covers it. When you do a lot of boat restoration, and lots of these older boats and motors, you find out that the chain saw on the transom is quite common. Usually though, the boat is stolen, and the is found on the side of the road a couple miles down, with a cut out in the transom, as it is much easier to disguise, and resell a motor, than the whole boat. Surprising that it happened at the house.

360 tackle bag??
I may have phrased it wrong. I am talking solely on the BOX. It seems to me that it is a bad size for fitting lures in practically. Sorry about the confusion.
-
360 tackle bag??
I am a little undecisive on tacklebags. I started out with one of those boxes that had three 3600 or 360 (can't remember, and I think they are the same) trays, and that big ole place up top. That wasn't practical once I got a boat, and actually started accumulating real tackle, and knowing what I was doing. Now, earlier this spring, I got a Bill Dance tacklebag, that holds six of the 360, or 3600, since I already had 3 of the trays. I absolutely love the soft bag, and in no case, will go back to the hard bag. Now, I decided I needed a couple different style containers, but still want it to fit in 1 or 2 tackle bags. Ideally, I would want one bag of trays, and then one of plastics, and maybe a spinnerbait wallet or something. But, here comes the dilemma. It seems to me that the 360/3600 is an impractical size altogether. It seems that the sizing is wrong to fit normal stuff in. How many of yall have used the 360/3600, and did you think they were an impractical size? Or, am I not loading it correct. I am talking normal hard baits here. My soft plastics stay in original bags, and wire baits aren't real good in any normal tray. I am thinking a flipsider tray, that is the same size as the 360 for them, but don't want to buy any more trays for mine, if I have to update in the spring. What is yalls view on the 360, and if it isn't good, should I look for a deal on a 3700 bag, or is it impractical too. I need them in a bag, as I fish from jons from time to time, and from other peoples boats, and sizing isn't an issue, as we aren't finished restoring either of the larger boats, so storage locker size is still variable.

to the bait monkey
NOOOOO. He is a real threat. We cannot be so naive. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT just blow off the bait monkey. That will be the end of you!! Just wait until he also becomes the boat monkey. You think swimbaits are expensive, just wait..... I think I did manage to cure his poison a bit recently. I actually SOLD one of my boats. ;D ;D Take that bait monkey!

Lucky Craft hooks.
. Yes Darn, asked the wrong question. Stepping backward slowly, slowly, backward, slowly backward. Pheww. That was close. Now, the problem is, I don't have a clue what size to get. It is a Sammy 65. *** has 3 sizes - treble hooks 8, treble hooks 6, and treble hooks 4. The LC website, on the Sammy 65 page, says Hook tail #8. Belly #8. I am assuming that hook tail, and belly, are hook sizes, therefore I need to get the number 8s. Now, for the split rings. *** has #1, #2, and #3. What size do I need there? LC's website doesn't say.
-
Lucky Craft hooks.
I have a Sammy that is missing one hook, and the other is an aftermarket hook, of a larger size (bought this one used). I found that *** sell Lucky Craft trebles, and split rings. Should I buy them, or is there a cheaper substitute?

Thought about trying to get that published? You would be surprised at what can give a director an idea for a new song.

How you cooking your bird tomorrow
We usually bake ours, but decided to smoke it this year. Wow. It is GREAT. Then, since the smoker was still hot, we threw a slab of bacon on for a couple hours. Best bacon I have ever had.
