jig fishing in HEAVY weeds.
I am going to a pond, probably an eighth of a mile on a side, kinda triangle shaped, that is on a boy scout camp, and I fish it probably twice or 3 times a year. In June, and the last weekend in October usually. It is probably 5 feet at the deepest, and that seems to be on the old creekbed running from the stream, to the old spillway (now they have one of those pipes that it spills into upon reaching a certain depth. Used to just run across the road, and down the creek) It has some REAL nasty weeds in it. Most seem dead, but they have taken over most of the lake, with just a few gaps. When I was their in June, I caught eleven, all around a pound, in 30 mins a day, fishing for four days, on a 6 inch green punkin trick worm, at the bottom of that creekbed. That bed is the only place that I, or anybody else, has ever found bass. Most of the bass in their are about a pound, but I have heard other anglers talking about seeing a 5 pounder swimming along their, just not catching it. Since I feel fairly confident on this pond, and with my plastics, I am pondering throwing something else. Topwater frogs especially. One guy, who is a big fisherman, was killing them on topwaters, while I was killing them at the bottom. But, I am pondering using some jigs. I have never really used them before, and am thinking this might be a place to try them, assuming it isn't too weedy by now. For THICK HEAVY weeds, what jigs do yall use, and what colors? (going a week from tomorrow, it is in the GA mountains) Anything besides topwater frogs, softplastics, and jigs that I should try? (no real confidence in anything aside from soft plastics, jerkbaits, and walk the dog baits)

bait monkey made me buy an overpriced bait...
I mostly use LCs for topwaters, but have recently started using others as well. With the sammys, you should see some of the places I have put the boat, to retrieve a snag. Ocaisonally, I have had to put the trolling motor on full throttle, going bacwards (with outboard taken off for elec only lake) to get the boat far enough into a weed patch to get one. I pull it up, just as it is getting to the weeds. Now, getting out, with 5 feet of weeds in front of your bow is tough, as I cant drop the trolling motor in the weeds.

Walking the dog
I have seen baitfish going that pattern on the surface. That is what caused me to buy a couple sammys and spooks.

My first bass boat
Yeah, it WILL be better than that force. Wouldn't own one of those, unless it is one of those that we get, that is just passing through. That merc is new enough, that it shouldn't be much trouble, but I still would prefer a Johnnyrude on the back.

Free fishing trip with Gman
I would do it, but my only issue is I live in Georgia, and I don't think I could ride my bike up to MO, dig a hole, go fishing, and then come back in time for school on Monday. Darn.

My first bass boat
We have had three in the past month (if you count canoes) (we work on, and buy/sell/trade boats as a hobby, so we see a lot go through. One, our 1997 12 foot vee, is a well built, but it is similar to many others of the late 90s. It is now owned by lowe, and is identical to their sea nymph series. OMC has owned sea nymph, Grumman, and possibly a couple others for a while, so all were identical, and now, that OMC has (sadly :'() gone under, Lowe owns them, and uses the same plan. Also, we have recently had 2 aluminum Grumman canoes go through here. These are well built boats, although the year is unknown, that still had some aviation grade parts on there, as Northrop-Grumman was a big plane manufacture in WWII, that started making aluminum boats after the war. Recently, they have branched far enough from the aircraft business, that my 12 footer has no aviation parts, just a good quality vee, similar to all others out there. You have yourself a pretty nice boat there. I am not crazy about that merc, but then again, I have run a Johnnyrude. Once you wrap your hand around the throttle of one, there is no going back. ;D

Where where you 6 years ago on this day
I was in 3rd grade then. (freshman in HS now) All we got was an announcement, stating that all soccer and baseball practice that night, had been canceled. Well, I wasn't happy. I do remember I was in the computer lab at that time, and the teacher pretended she did not know why they canceled it, but she wasn't her normal self. When I got in the car that day, I was fuming. Soccer practice was canceled, there is no rain in the sky, and no one would tell me why. I told mom that it had been canceled. She said good thing. huh? What do you mean, good thing? Then she told me. Being a third grader, I didn't quite understand the magnitude of the disaster, but new no one else was normal, so I decided not to be either. These days, as I learn more and more, it just amazes me at the sheer magnitude of this disaster. God bless America.

Favorite Shirt quotes
Water on Mars? Lets go fishing!! This one was seen on a shirt that had a police light on it "I had the right to remain silent. I just didn't have the ability" (Ron White). Darnit. I know so many other ones, but my brain isn't working. (it never has worked right - it says turn left, and walk forward, then I realize there is a wall there, about the time I have broken my nose)

Would like yalls opinion on this - TM sizing.
I am about to purchase probably 2 new (used) trolling motors. One, for my 12 foot vee, that will get moved to whatever 12 or 14 foot jon we have at a current time. I am looking for 40 - 50 on that. I know that is plenty, as I have a 50, but just don't like the motor. (I liked it when I first got it, but my needs have changed dramatically) But, on our 18 foot alumacraft, that we are restoring, I am not 100% certain on what I want. I was guessing 60 - 80 pounds. Definitely a 24v. For those that have 17 to 18 foot aluminum bass boats, what thrust do you have, and how happy are you with it? Thanks.

Bass Pro Plastics Deal - 200 assorted for $10 shpd
Ya know what, I am probably gonna put one of these on my next order from there. Ya see, it makes your whole order free shipping (unless it is something like rods that have an extra charge - then it only charges the extra charge) Often, my shipping comes to be a lot higher than the 10 bucks.

what gauge wire?
Yes you do need larger than the TM. The trolling motor lead is usually 2 feet long. You can have a smaller gauge for a 2 foot run. Unless your battery is under the TM, you need to have a longer run. For that section, you need a larger diameter. For example, our wire feed 230 v welder has a 50 foot run, from the shop breaker box, to the door, then a 25 foot extension cord, and then the 5 foot cord on the welder itself. For the run from the breaker box, to the roll up door, we have 8 gauge. The extension cord is 10 gauge, and the machine has 12 gauge. The machine has a factory installed 12 gauge, but if we ran 12 gauge all the way from the box, after 75 feet, it would loose a lot, and the cord would run hotter. The same applies for trolling motors, just a lot fewer volts.

Motor Guide Wireless
Its slower steering. With docks, you need the boat EXACTLY in the right place. With the electric steer, it is all to hard to steer in precise amounts. You have to fight the zig zagging occasionally. Hard to fish a stump field too.

what gauge wire?
And pay a fortune. People don't know this, but automotive wiring will work just as well there. Not always as many strands, but unless it is getting moved a lot (like an extension cord) that is not a problem.

Restoration
I have restored quite a few aluminums, including our 1974 Lund 15 foot deep vee, which is similar to your 16. First of all, a manual isn't gonna do squat. With an outboard, NEVER even take the hood off, without owning one, but for the boat, don't even bother. As far as showroom condition, I would recommend making it a little better. Back then, they weren't as well layed out as now, so modifying it a little might make a better fishing platform. As cart said, we do love the older vintage runabouts, but not as many of us have them, as we would like (I want one, but don't have one) and a lot of us have more of the Vhull fishing boats, as they are very commonplace from the 70s - early 80s, and many of us got them as a first project. (me included) I joined last year, and they really helped with my Lund, and outboard, and now I am back, telling other folks how to do it. Many in the business post there too. Definitely better in the outboard repair department.

Attention! Gammy & Owner Fans
Yeah, but when you are like me, and never even get a bite (hard to catch fish in the swimming pool) a hook doesn't matter. Hard to catch a bass that doesn't bite. Yet I still throw the dang 3 bucks for a 5 pack Gammy EWG hooks. For some reason, once I got a boat, expensive baits seem cheaper. When shore fishing, I never woulda thrown a Gammy, or a Lucky Craft. Now I don't even flinch when buying them.

Bass Pro Plastics Deal - 200 assorted for $10 shpd
I never have liked their brand soft plastic. I have a couple packs of their stickbaits, and they seemed stiff, and cheaply made. I wait until stuff like the YUM or ZOOM baits are on sale, and get them. Better bait, for the same money. Now, they won't never be cheap enough to beat that, but then again, on a quick glance at your picture, I doubt many folks actually use every size and color in there.

Small craft bass fishing
Way to much!! My 1997 12 foot Grumman, Evinrude 4 horse deluxe, MK 50 pound bow mount motor, eagle 320 fishfinder, and all the extras cost less than 1100 bucks. I would recommend getting an aluminum jon, or vee, with a trailer, and a Johnson or Evinrude 2 stroke, 2 cylinder outboard, and if bought used, you will spend less. You could really splurge for 2700 bucks. The whole boat, trailer, outboard, TM, sonar, and all the extras should be a lot less. Plus, the plastic boats have a lot of disadvantages anyway.

Bow mount trolling motors
For the most part, the foot pedal is a complicated feat. As is the mount. Much more in the way of moving parts. A bow mount hand control isn't THAT much higher than an equivalent transom. All for the mount.

"Dale" on CMT
I don't get CMT anymore. :'( Recently, Comcast bought the cable from Adelphia, and turned it into Comcrap. They rearranged all the channels, and gave us just enough time to get used to them, then they moved a lot of the popular channels (CMT included) up to the higher channels, and you need to buy some stupid box to view them.

attention : bowhunters
Range finder. Old arrows, with different color fletchings stuck into certain places on the ground. Sooner or later, you will get it down purty close.

Anyone Believe?
I take some "all natural" vitamin for "facial blemishes" (zits) As much as I hate to say it, they really do work. But, someday, the only all natural vitamin will be steak and fried chicken. ;D

MPG for a 70 hp outboard...
And if you throttle back to 3/4 throttle, you will use a lot less than 3/4 the amount of gas than you would at full. Bring it all the way to WOT, then throttle back. Nice motor by the way.

2 stroke or 4 stroke??
Why are you going new? Your little 3 was one of the ABSOLUTE best outboards ever made. Although they larger ones aren't quite like the 3s and 4s of that era, the 6s and 8s made by Johnson or Evinrude (OMC) are undoubtably better than the modern couterpart. The small twin cylinder Johnnyrudes aren't gonna die in our lifetimes, but many of the brand new ones will.

Moving South ?
The real great thing is to be fishing, when all of yall are griping about waiting for ice out, and organizing, and reorganizing your tackle. Then, our spring spawn is before yalls ice out. ;D Plus, I love the heat. Much below 80 is chilly, below 65 is real nippy, and below 50 is downright freezing. I hate the cold. These frigid Georgia winters are killers.

Motor Guide Wireless
Of the people I know who have them, none are real big bass anglers. But, I have the MK powerdrive, which is the MK electric steer version of that. The electric steer isn't the greatest for bass fishing. Real pain in the neck. I would recommend a conventional style motor, as I am about to get a new one. PS, if you know anyone selling a MK Maxxum, in 60 to 80 pound thrust, let me know. PPS, if you know anyone who wants a 50 pound powerdrive, let me know.
